This hub is backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3, USB Type-C, and USB 4.

The Element Hub's four Thunderbolt 4 ports allow you to create the device you want. If you need to connect multiple SSDs, SD card readers, RAID storage, or Dual 4K monitors, there's no issue.

The Thunderbolt 4 ports are capable of speeds up to 40 Gb/s in order to take advantage of your ultra-fast storage devices.

While the Element Hub's Thunderbolt 4 ports add a wealth of connectivity potential, the built-in USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports allow you to easily connect up to four high-performance USB Type-A devices such as external NVMe SSDs.

The Element Hub can be used to directly connect a USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 3, or Thunderbolt 4 monitor for simple plug-and-play simplicity. When connected to a Thunderbolt 4 host computer, the Element Hub is capable of adding a monitor up to 8K resolution, or dual 4K 60 Hz monitors in either extended or mirrored modes.

The Element Hub is not only built from high quality aluminum, it also features a reversible design that allows you to utilize it on either the left or right hand side of your laptop. A quick glance at the build-in LED light allows you to instantly see if the Element Hub is in operation.

Thunderbolt and USB 4 laptop users can daisy-chain Thunderbolt, USB 4, and USB Type-C devices to the Element Hub. Users on non-Thunderbolt and USB 4 hosts, such as USB Type-C computers (USB 3.2, USB 3.1), are able to daisy-chain USB Type-C devices only. In order to daisy-chain Thunderbolt devices a Thunderbolt or USB 4 connection is required.

As the Element Hub is a Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 device, it is compatible with USB Type-C tablets such as the iPad Pro or Windows tablets.

The Element Hub not only offers versatile connectivity options, it will also charge a Tablet or Ultrabook at up to 60W through the Thunderbolt 4 port. The Element Hub has a fixed 60W laptop charging function, meaning it will consistently provide 60W of charging power if connected to a laptop such as the MacBook Pro 13".

CalDigit has created a Mac OS utility software that allows users to quickly and safely eject all of their storage devices with one click.

The Element Hub can even work for you when it's connected to your computer. Keep your USB Type-A or USB Type-C devices connected to the Element Hub and it will continue to charge them. All 8 ports on the Element Hub can be used at the same time for offline charging.

Many docks and hubs are not compatible with the Apple SuperDrive since it requires a lot of power from the connected USB port. CalDigit has solved this problem by creating a driver that will allow the SuperDrive to work through the Element Hub.

The Element Hub is compatible with:

  • Windows 10 or above
  • iPadOS
  • Chrome OS
  • Thunderbolt 4 Computers
  • Thunderbolt 3 Computers
  • USB 4 Type-C Computers
  • USB 3.1 Type-C Computers
  • iPad Pro
  • iPad Air (4th Gen)
  • Windows Tablet
  • USB Type-C ChromeBook

I've done a lot of research on many Thunderbolt docks and hubs. Nearly every Thunderbolt hub is designed for laptops to dock to by putting both the downstream ports and the upstream port on the same side of the device. I have a desktop, and I do not want the upstream cable facing the outside.

Enter this Thunderbolt hub, one of the very few hubs with ports laid out like a hub should have. The DC power input goes in the back, the upstream port goes in the side, and the users have a clean row of USB ports along the front to plug their devices into.

One improvement I'd ask for is to move the upstream port to the back as well, and maybe allow for DC input from the computer itself using USB PD, and then relocate one of the downstream Thunderbolt ports in the back to the front. But given what else is on the market, this is about the best I could find for my desktop setup.

I bought this because I was having problems daisy-chaining USB hubs.
I need to daisy-chain hubs because my laptop has very few ports and I have numerous USB peripherals I want to use: external disk drives, keyboards, mice, headphones, etc.

My previous USB-3 hub worked well until I bought two peripherals that worked when connected to the first hub but not to the daisy chained hub. Since several of my peripherals are now USB-C, I decided to try a USB-C hub to replace the previous USB-3.0 hub.

Now, the peripherals that did not work connected to the daisy-chained USB-3.0 hub work with this CalDigit hub. As I type this, I'm using all 4 USB-3.0 ports and 2 out of 3 USB-C ports.

Not cheap, but well worth the flexibility it has offered me.
