Kolari Vision Kv-fl1 Multispectral Flash With Ir And Uv Flash Filters
- Product Code: ga104451
-
The KV-FL1 Multispectral Flash from Kolari Vision is for illuminating your subjects in indoor IR/UV applications, when you use IR or UV filters with a full-spectrum modified camera. The flash unit comes with IR (850nm) and UV flash filters, also referred to as flash cups, which attach to the flash head. When you use the IR flash cup for IR applications, it will make the flash only barely visible to the human eye even on the highest power settings. The UV flash cup reduces the flash to a softer, purple glow.
This speedlight style flash features a standard hot shoe for use on- or off-camera. Clamp-mount focus assist flashlights are included to help with focusing and composing your shot. These flashlights will light your scene in the spectrum that you need, allowing you to see what you're going to get before the flash goes off. This lets you eliminate trial and error. The flashlights attach to the flash via quick release clamp-mounts, allowing for quick and easy swaps for IR and UV applications.
The flash unit runs on four AA batteries. The focus assist flashlights are each powered by a single AA battery. Only two AA batteries are included (one for each flashlight).

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Will the "commander" function on the Canon EOS Rebel SL3?
A: This unit is not compatible with a SL3.
Q: 2. Will this allow access to the Flash Control Menu on Nikon D500?
A: All the flash control will be done from the commander only.
Q: 3. Can each group (A, B, C) be independently set to different channels? Example: Group A to Channel 4, and Group B to Channel 2 at the same time.
A: You may set the desired group and the channel individually on the Nikon wireless infrared i-TTL flash(es) you own. Each flash does not have to be on the same group/channel. However, while you may also set different groups and channels on the Vello FWIRC-N FreeWave IR TTL Flash Commander for Nikon, you may only use one channel at a time on the Commander. As such, regardless of their group setting, if the off-camera flashes are not set to the channel actively set on the Vello FWIRC-N FreeWave IR TTL Flash Commander, then they will not fire.
Q: 4. Is there any point in getting this for my Nikon D810? I understand the D810 has commander mode built in, but I am looking for a method to create a stronger infrared signal to read my off camera Speedlights.
A: I don't know if this will get you better range than the built in commander mode, but it does offer other advantages. First, I believe the built in commander uses the pop-up flash to signal the off-camera flashes. Even if you have it set to not contribute to the exposure, it will still probably add noticeable light in some scenarios. The pop-up flash can also cause people to blink. This avoids all of that. You could tape a piece of IR plastic over your pop-up, but this is definitely more professional looking. Last, the UI on this makes it very convenient to make setting changes. Especially if you are not using i-TTL, the UI on this makes it easy to adjust the flash power of each group without having to go through the camera menu. The downside of this is that you have to attach something to your camera while built in commander is, well... built in. In short, I don't know if this will get you better range, but it offers other advantages and conveniences. This does have better range than the Nikon SU-800, and also has a more compact shape. Whether those conveniences are worth the price is a matter of opinion. I got this because my camera body doesn't have built in commander. If my next camera body has built in commander, I will probably still use this. I typically just leave this attached anyway since I don't put my flashes on-camera very often. I am just an amateur, so my use cases differ greatly from a professional.
Q: 5. Will it work with the Canon 430EX speedlite? The model before EX II.
A: Yes it does
Q: 6. Does it work with Yongnuo Speedlite YN600EX-RT?
A: Technically it should work. The YN600ex-RT has an Infrared receiver. But the manufactures have not tested there products together.
Q: 7. Will it work with 580EX2 ?
A: Indeed, that's how I use it. It's amazing and you can set all settings in the Camera if you have relatively modern Canon DSLR.
Q: 8. Will this unit also act as a focus assist light to help the camera focus under low light conditions as does the Canon st-e2 ?
A: This unit does offer an AF assist light for focusing in low light conditions.
Q: 9. its work with Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight?
A: When the Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight Flash is set for off-camera usage as an optical infrared receiver, yes, the Vello FWIRC-N FreeWave IR TTL Flash Commander for Nikon will work as a on-camera Commander to wirelessly control your flash.
Q: 10. Could this be used as a basic controller to operate a series of flashes in manual mode for a Fuji X-e2? Not interested in TTL capabilities, but the ability to use it as a basic controller/trigger.
A: No, that is designed to be used for Canon cameras and flashes that have the IR TTL system.
