The Tiffen 62mm Soft Contrast 2 Filter is a contrast reduction filter that darkens highlights while maintaining the density of shadows within a scene. The effect of a light absorbing element within this filter is apparent in highlights without requiring a change in overall exposure. Details within bright areas are made more visible without a similar effect on dark areas. Tiffen Soft Contrast filters are available in grades numbering one through five. Each larger numbered grade corresponds to a stronger effect.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

At first, I couldn't tell if anything was happening when I put it onto my camera lens- but after taking a few shots in different lighting circumstances, it is most noticeable when taking photos or filming harsh light. It creates a halo like effect, and softens the strong light, creating this fluffed up cloud like mist around the object that is shining. I would like to find a softone filter lens that can accomplish this but in a stronger degree as well, to continue on my path in playing with lens filters. Overall, this is a really nice lens to have for its price, to create a dreamy and sentimental type of atmosphere invoked in your work.
