Designed for the FUJIFILM G-mount GFX camera system, the GF 20-35mm f/4 R WR Lens is a wide-angle zoom offering a 16-28mm equivalent focal length range. Covering ultra-wide to wide-angle perspectives, this zoom is particularly well-suited to landscape, travel, and architecture applications, and the constant f/4 maximum aperture maintains consistent performance throughout the zoom range. A sophisticated optical design pairs a trio of aspherical elements with one aspherical ED element and three ED elements to control both spherical and chromatic aberrations for improved sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy. Balancing the optical assets is an internal focusing mechanism that utilizes a linear AF motor to deliver quick, quiet, and precise focusing performance. A fluorine coating has also been added to the front element to repel moisture and the lens also features a dust-, freeze-, and weather-resistant construction for use in inclement conditions. Additionally, a manual aperture ring is featured for intuitive, tactile adjustment over exposure settings, and a Command position can also be set for camera-based control over the aperture.

Ultra-wide to wide-angle zoom offers a 16-28mm equivalent focal length to suit working in a variety of situations.

Constant f/4 maximum aperture affords consistent performance throughout the zoom range.

Three aspherical elements are featured in the optical design to control spherical aberrations for improved sharpness with Minimal distortion. Also, three extra-low dispersion elements and one aspherical ED element are also used to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range for increased clarity.

An internal focusing mechanism is controlled by a linear AF motor for smooth, silent, and fast focusing performance.

The front element features a hydrophobic fluorine coating to repel moisture.

Dust- and weather-sealed physical construction enables working in harsh climates and temperatures as low as 14°F.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If using a polarising filter on this lens, do I need one of the 'slim' versions so you don't see the edge of the filter?

A: Yes, since the FUJIFILM GF 20-35mm f/4 R WR Lens is a very wide lens, using a slim filter is recommended.

Q: 2. Would a 58-77 step up ring work with a normal filter like a regular filter or a Nikon polarizer without vignetting? Thanks.

A: It is possible that vignetting can occur when using a 58-77mm ring and a filter on this lens.

Q: 3. I am mainly a flowers, landscape, sunset kind of guy. I will jump into the Fuji medium format very soon. What 2 or 3 lenses would be best for my prefered subjects?

A: The FUJIFILM GF 23mm f/4 R LM WR Lens, B&H # FU234RWR, would be a good lens option for landscape images and sunset images of landscapes. To photograph close-up images of flowers, a macro lens such as the FUJIFILM GF 120mm f/4 Macro R LM OIS WR Lens, B&H # FU1204LMWR, would be a good option. For regular images of flowers (not necessarily close-up images), the FUJIFILM GF 63mm f/2.8 R WR Lens, B&H # FU6328RWR, would be a good option for your usage needs.

Q: 4. What is the full frame equivalent to this lens? Would this be good for wide angle interiors? Thank you!

A: This would be equivalent to 36mm on Full Frame. For interiors you may want to go wider. Like the FUJIFILM GF 30mm (24mm equivalent) f/3.5 R WR Lens linked here. https://bhpho.to/36TZiN5. Or wider than that with the FUJIFILM GF 23mm (18mm Equivalent) f/4 R LM WR Lens linked here. https://bhpho.to/36OjfoQ

Q: 5. Which country was this lens made?

A: The FUJIFILM GF 55mm f/1.7R WR Lens (FUJIFILM G) is made in Fujifilm's manufacturing facility in Japan.

Q: 6. Does this lens extend upon focusing or is it fixed with internal focusing?

A: This lens does not extend as it's an internal focus prime lens.

Q: 7. Wondering if this prime is noticeably sharper than the Fuji Gf 20-35?

A: Yes hte FUJIFILM GF 30mm f/3.5 R WR Lens is noticeably sharper than the 20-35mm zoom lens.

Q: 8. Is this lens autofocus?

A: Yes, it is. It does not use Fuji's newer "linear motors," which are a bit quicker and quieter, but the motors here are still fairly quiet. It is not internal focusing, however, and the front element will move in and out as it focuses.

Q: 9. Does this lens extend when zooming or is it an internal focusing lens?

A: The FUJIFILM GF 20-35mm f/4 R WR Lens zooms within the barrel and does not extend.

Q: 10. Just received the lens. Straight out of the box, while not attached to the camera, the elements within the lens clunk back and for the when tilting the lens from end to end. Is this happening with all of your lenses as well? It’s as if the glass isn’t secured inside the lens and is free floating down the focal length.

A: Yes, that is a normal occurrence with this and other lenses.

This is a great UWA lens for the GFX system. The color, contrast and sharpness are exceptional. Put this lens with the GFX 100s and the amount of detail you can get is unreal. Everyone is worried about the corners on wide angle lenses - the corners are great with this lens. As far as ergonomics the lens is well built, relatively lightweight and easy to use. You can walk around with this lens all day and take wonderful photos. I have taken landscape and architecture photos with this lens and it has exceeded my expectations.

I had contemplated this lens for quite some time. To take advantage of the GFX100S capabilities and the high-resolution properties, this lens has been a fantastic addition to my system. Solid build quality, easy to manipulate, and sharp corner-to-corner. Worth the investment.

I just got back from a photo shoot in northern Nevada. Four days were spent shooting the old steam trains at the Nevada Northern Railyard in Ely, NV. This lens coupled with my Fujifilm GFX 100S gave me unbelievable results and was a joy to use. I would recommend this lens highly !

This lens is wider than my iPhone 11 Pro on it's widest setting. It's a blast to work with. I was recently in the mountains of central Idaho. Between the wildflowers and dramatic, stormy skies, this lens took it all in. With the max f22 the range is about a foot to infinity so it was able to capture plenty of the clouds along with the flowers on a downslope. The image is sharp, all the way around. It also works great on architectural shoots. Even at its widest there is little distortion, unless you want to do some funky shooting. I am super excited to own this lens. Combined with the Fujifilm 45-100, my bases are now covered.

What an excellent lens. Sharp when stopped down, but also can achieve nice bokeh at higher focal lengths because it's medium format. only 1/3 stop slower then the 30mm that this is replacing for me. I would highly recommend this over the 30mm and 23mm. A real winner.

I did a test on our Youtube channel Film Jams comparing this 20-35mm side-by-side with the 23mm GF f/4 and the 23mm is slightly better and vignettes less, but once you apply corrections in camera RAW, they're very close. I think the autofocus is also slightly better on the 23mm. The 20-35mm lens goes down to f/22 while the 23mm goes all the way down to f/32 which has saved me on some long exposure sunset shots (when I forgot to pack my ND's)...so overall the 20-35mm seems very versatile and similar in quality to the 23mm lens - if you plan to post process your images. It's also slightly lighter than the 23mm. If you want to see side-by-side comparisons of the 23mm to this 20-35mm check them out on Film Jams on Youtube.

Been shooting since the late 60's—originally Nikon, but Schneider, Leitz, a long run of Zeiss (both Hassy and Contax), and short dabbles with Canon L and Lumix glass—until I got the GFX 100S, my X-Pros have been my main cameras for the past decade, and from the better lenses in the X world, I knew the overall quality level of Fujinon lenses—but this one still came as a shocker.

Even wide open, it's quite remarkable from corner to corner. Distortions are really well controlled, as is color fringing.

The lens itself is very compact (for what it does—but none of these MF lenses are petite, in any way). Typical upper tier Fujinon quality in the overall feel and mechanics, with niceties like the locking lens shade.
