Ideal for portraiture, the FUJIFILM XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR is a weather-sealed iteration of their lauded 85mm equivalent lens. Famously distinguished by its exceedingly fast f/1.2 maximum aperture, great subject isolation, and pleasant color rendering, this revision also updates the optical formula by adding aspherical elements to the focusing group, a greatly improved focusing distance of 1.6', and an 11-blade rounded aperture diaphragm for improved bokeh.

The optical design employs both aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements, which help to reduce a variety of aberrations, color fringing, and distortion in order to achieve high sharpness and clarity. A Super EBC coating is used, too, to reduce flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy in bright and backlit conditions. A rounded eleven-blade diaphragm delivers smooth and pleasant out of focus highlights. This all-metal lens uses nine rubber seals to keep it protected from dust and moisture, while also maintaining full functionality in temperatures as low as 14°F. The fluorine-coated front element, meanwhile, is designed to repel water, fingerprints, and other marks to help keep image quality high when the weather turns against you.

Prime portrait-length lens is designed for APS-C-format Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides an 85mm equivalent focal length.

Produces high resolution, aberration-free results packed with detail and color. Ideal for portraits, weddings, and any other creative applications demanding precise control over depth-of-field, the XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR delivers incredible image-resolving performance down to its minimum focusing distance of 1.6', making it an ideal portrait lens, but also suitable for other applications within table-top, product, and commercial photography.

Its optical construction comprises 13 elements in eight groups, including one ED and two aspherical elements. The eight elements used in the focusing group take high-refractive technology from FUJINON Cinema Lenses to minimize chromatic, spherical, and comatic aberrations. This helps minimize light bleed within highlights, boosting image quality and subject detail in the process.

Especially bright f/1.2 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and offers notable control over depth of field for using selective focus techniques.

Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.

Rounded eleven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens work on an X-T3 ?

A: This lens would definitely work on an X-T3! Very compact setup.

Q: 2. Will it work for fujifilm x-a3???

A: Yes, it is a Fuji X-Mount camera.

Q: 3. Does box also contain the Len hood?

A: The FUJIFILM XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR Lens comes with the lens hood. When shopping our site you can always see what is included with an item by viewing the overview tab and finding the “In the Box” listing located on the right hand side of our web page. The hood is listed there along with the front and rear caps, lens pouch and the 1 year Fuji warranty.

Q: 4. If you're hitting the street with just this lens mounted on an XT-4 what's a good neoprene pouch to throw that setup into? I'd like a way to pocket a camera with this lens mounted.

A: OP/TECH USA Rangefinder Soft Pouch will fit your FUJIFILM X-T4 Mirrorless Digital Camera and FUJIFILM XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR Lens with caps, filters, and lens hood. Please review the link below to find this option. OP/TECH USA Rangefinder Soft Pouch BH #OPSPRB • MFR #7001224 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/222046-REG/OP_TECH_USA_7001224_Rangefinder_Soft_Pouch.html

Q: 5. I just noticed that my aperture ring will turn into the "A" position without pushing the lock button, but that I have to push the lock button to get it out of the "A" position. Is this normal? On my 18 1.4 and 33 1.4 I have to push the lock button to get into AND out of the "A" position.

A: Yes, the XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR seems to employ this new method of switching into electronic aperture control. Our copies of the lens also switch into "A" WITHOUT pressing the lock button, and require the lock button to switch out "A". This is unlike some of their other lenses, like the 10-24mm f/4 R WR OIS, and the ones you have listed.

Q: 6. I owned the original 27mm But one day it just died. When I went online to see if I could find out how to fix this problem, I found many people had their 27mm just stop working. Do you know if they fixed this problem with the new lens? It was a really great lens and gave wonderful results and did last for several years. It was the first lens I bought and even bought it from B&H before I bought the camera.

A: They did make quite a few improvements to the overall stability of this lens in terms of build quality and operation so you should get more longevity out of this lens when compared to the previous version.

Q: 7. can you apply extension tube to this lens?

A: Yes an extension tube can be used with this lens, as it would only shorten the existing focusing distance of that lens. One example is the FUJIFILM MCEX-16 16mm Extension Tube for Fujifilm X-Mount, BH # FUMCEX16 https://bhpho.to/3oAShtj

Q: 8. Is this made in Japan?

A: The following unit is made in Thailand.

Q: 9. Does the Aperture ring lock, or at least have hard stops that won't easily get knocked off setting?

A: The FUJIFILM XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR Lens does have an aperture ring lock so it won't change on its own.

Q: 10. The lens is not on the list of lenses supported by the 40mp APS-C sensor for the X-H2, what is the highest resolution for this lens on the new 40mp ASP-C sensor (specifically the X-T5)?

A: Any lens can be used on the 40mp cameras. This 56mm F1.2 APD is just not able to provide maximum resolution for the 40mp cameras which will be a subjective judgement depending on the user.

Although I have a zoom lens that covers the 90mm territory, it doesn't stop down to f2 to take care of images I wanted with a narrow depth of field. I had also read reviews saying this lens produced sharp photographs. It does. The lens is a little pricey and I was concerned I wouldn't use it enough on my Fuji X-T1 to justify the cost. But after seeing the quality of the images, I find myself using it a lot. The lens is a bit heavy and it does not have image stabilization, but that's what they make tripods for. This is a great lens and the image quality lives up to reviews.

Not much to say about this lens, amazingly sharp and beautiful creamy bokeh, relatively quick to focus and while it's not a small lens it's very reasonable for the focal length and aperture. Didn't feel overburdened carrying just this lens on my XT-10 while walking around Seattle or Victoria for half the day. Really gotten hooked on this focal length for candid people shots and a less traditional focal length for landscapes and cityscapes. Only lens I've ever owned that came close to matching this for sharpness and bokeh was my Nikon 85mm 1.8.

I use this lens to photograph my great-niece playing hockey (indoor rinks) and it works very well for that purpose. When I owned Canon gear I used the Canon 85mm f/1.8 which is a rear focusing lens and this 90mm Fuji seems better built and just as sharp, if not sharper. I'm able to track action confidently with the lens and Fuji VPB on my XT2 and I get a very high keeper rate.

Bought this lens for a Fujifilm XT-1 to take photos at university concerts where I mostly had to stay put in the audience to record the scene for the Music Dept and myself. Also lighting conditions are tough with lots of black clothing and background but stage lights on performers. The 18-55 mm kit lens that came with the camera did well but images were a bit too small and I wanted something faster. This lens gave me the reach I wanted plus let in more light, though obviously focusing has to be more precise at wider f stops and you can't be lazy or move fast since it has no image stabilization. I think in combination with the XT-1 it has the feel of an old fashioned (do we still use that term?) film camera and valued prime lens; i.e., there wasn't any image stabilization in the good (bad) old days either and you had to practice holding things steady at slow shutter speeds. Despite what some reviewers say, I found that auto focus wasn't bad at those distances when subjects were well-lit but probably better to use manual where focus peaking helps a lot, especially if the subject is dimly lit. Also f2's shallow dof does an excellent job of picking out specifics in complicated surroundings, though by f5.6 many planes are in focus yet it still lets in plenty of light. And as others note of course it works very well in natural light for portraits, near-macro, etc. You just have to remember to hold things steady.

I debated buying this lens for a while. On one hand the rave reviews but on the other - the practicality of this focal length. I'm really happy that I did get it - the IQ is stunning and I find myself using this far more often than I thought - makes for great family head shots, isolating the object from the background. Also found it great for taking pictures of buildings (from afar of course).

Like many others, I was trying to make up my mind between this and the legendary 56mm f1.2, mostly for portraits. My decision (for now) was made based on the fact that I own two manual lenses that are very close in focal length to the 56 (a 55mm and a 58mm). That, the current lower price, and all the glowing reviews made this choice easy. The 90mm is big, but still totally within reason. It looks and feels balanced, especially on the bigger Fuji bodies (I use it on the X-T1. On my X-pro1, it does obstruct the OVF somewhat). Sharpness is out of this world! AF speed is a pleasure. With the 135mm equivalent focal length, bokeh is always easy to achieve. The big focus ring is fun and easy to operate manually. You're not exactly getting up close and personal with this lens, but I find that preferable in many situations, i.e. shy subject, shy photographer, or both. I've found it surprisingly versatile in the street. f2 is plenty for most situations, in lower light you'll run into some trouble, not so much because the lens can't handle it, but because the focal length makes it naturally more vulnerable to camera shake. The look and feel is solid, trustworthy, in other words: typically Fuji. It looks like I'm reaching the goal of a nice, rounded Fuji lens collection with the 16, 18-55, 27, 35, and this one. Very happy customer.

Flawless in a true sense of the word. It fast and quite, sharp edge to edge and shows very minimal aberration wide open. This lens is meant to be used at any aperture and will certainly satisfy wide open. You also have to be impressed with it's build quality - if ever there was a Fuji lens that was perfection, this may be it.

This is a very versatile lens. SUPER sharp, and excellent bokeh at f 2. It focuses much closer than the 56mm f 1.2 If you can't decide between those 2 lens, take the 90mm !

Super-sharp (even wide open), great image quality, excellent focal length for portraits (35mm-eq: 135mm), focuses quickly & quite close (closer than Fuji XF 56mm f/1.2), convenient filter size (62mm), & reasonable weight/bulk. Only downside is lack of image stabilization (often not essential).
