Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you change the tension on the hinge without loosening the nato clamp?

A: The knob locks both the hinge and the NATO rail

Q: 2. How long is this coiled and uncoiled? That's kind of crucial info for a cable...

A: This cable has 14'' at relaxed length. If it's expand it can go up to 27'' long.

Q: 3. What's the diameter of the rods? Are they compatible with 15mm rod systems?

A: They are NOT compatable with 15mm rod systems. The rods are 3/8 in diameter.

Q: 4. Will this adapter fit on a 5/8" light stand? Will the opening in the bottom fit over a light stand stud? Is that a threaded hole at the bottom side that I can attach a knob?

A: This adapter would not fit over a 5/8" stud on a light stand. A better option for this is the Avenger E390 TVMP Yoke to Stand Adapter, BH # AVE390. http://bhpho.to/3mKtX5z

Q: 5. Once the camera is leveled, can the camera be panned for the purpose of creating a panorama?

A: The leveling base is meant to be between tripod legs and a tripod head. The tripod head would allow you to pan once you are level.

Q: 6. For the 3/8" -16 rods, they cannot be joined together like the 1/4"-20 rods, right?

A: The Matthews MICROgrip Rod (20") is like the smaller rods but uses a 3/8 inch thread not the smaller 1/4 thread.

Q: 7. Is the adapter hollow so I can pass a cord through it?

A: The UM99 is not hollow, but you could easily drill a whole through it that would serve your purpose. Jim B.

Q: 8. So what is the intended purpose of the hole in the middle?

A: In some situations you can line it up with the set screw and then you won't have rotation of the stud in the mount.

Q: 9. What is the diameter of the rod?

A: The Matthews catalog states that the rods are 3/8".

Q: 10. Other than the Matthews 4 rod for MICROgrip applications, do any of their other rods 6 , 8 , 12 , 20 ) come with a 3/8-16 threaded male stud? All photos appear to indicate that their longer rods are only tapped with a 3/8-16 female, but not a 3/8-16 male.

A: I have 4, 6, 8, 12, and 20 inch MICROgrip rods, with 4-8 pieces in each size. They all have Male threads on one side, and Female threads on the other, allowing you to screw them together to make any length necessary. I heavily rely on this feature for various car mount configurations, especially for stabilizing the top of the camera. I sometimes also use extra MICROgrip rods down to the car floor for over-the-shoulder car mount shots. For mounting the bottom of the camera cheese plate to the suction cups, I usually use the larger 5/8 rods, but adding extra MICROgrip rods to that basic mount makes it rock solid.
