The 62mm alpha II Circular Polarizer Filter from Hoya has a slimmer frame and better glass than the original alpha CPL. Leaving out premium features like multi-coating, optical glass, and a hardened, waterproof top layer, the alpha series is designed as an entry-level CPL filter for those starting out in photography.

The alpha II CPL gives scenic photography more punch by darkening blue skies so that white clouds and foliage stand out. Light rays become polarized when traveling through moisture and pollution, as well as when they reflect off non-metallic surfaces such as glass or bodies of water. A polarizing filter absorbs polarized light and helps remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces. By removing these reflections, this filter also increases color saturation, especially in leaves and foliage.

I recently went on my first excursion just for the purpose of practicing landscape exposures. Of the five filters I took along, this 72mm Polarizer was the only one that truly captured the actual colors of a Wyoming sunrise touching a cliff, the side of a butte, of ancient layers of varied sediment, and the beauty of dawn first revealing the subtle color differences in the layers. Even when forced to shoot in broad daylight, this filter managed colors well, although one had to pay close attention to camera settings. I wouldn't shoot macro flowers with it, but for landscapes I can't imagine a better choice.

I use this lens on my 200/500mm Nikkor. WOW the sky pops a beautiful blue and the reflections on the water surfaces disappears.

It looks very nice. Turns nicely. Have not tried it on the lens it was purchased for. Had to send the whole wild life kit back, was not able to get a clear focus. They are replacing and sending me another kit. Will be able to review this polarizer if the camera will focus clearly. But not until then. Expensive but should do the polarizing viewing it was made for.
