With the update the c port will allow all ports of hyperdrive to be used at once for the same kind of connection you would make to a laptop (except it is not a lighting port so it cannot handle external drives made for that high speed connection -- however, usb c gen 2 are no problem). If you are continuing to have issues after update, try going to your file app and copying the movie to the iPad before playing.
