The Tiffen 4 x 5" 5 Magenta Soft-Edge Graduated Filter helps to specifically add a pinkish, magenta coloration to skies and other bright areas of an image while allowing a portion of the image to remain neutrally colored. The filter's coloring is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged transition between the density and clear areas. The 5 color density provides more magenta coloration than the 4 density filter.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. It measures 4 x 5" / 101.6 x 127mm.

Note: A vertical orientation filter's line of transition runs parallel to the short side of the filter.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the filter rotate alike a polarizer? if it doesn't, how do I place the edge exactly horizontally, in parallel to the horizon?

A: The filter has a rotating mount to allow for precise positioning of the gradation along the horizon line.

Q: 2. I am looking into buying this filter for shooting sunrises and sets where the mountains and forests are very shade compared to the sky. Should I go for something darker or lighter?

A: There is no definitive answer to your question based upon the information provided. Your question depends on the difference in correct exposure value between the mountains/forest and the sky. Each .3 of ND is equal to one stop of light loss. If the difference in exposure values is two stops, go with a graduated ND .6, if it is three stops then use a .9, etc. For best results, keep a few of these filters in your camera bag with varying ND densities.

Q: 3. Why my purchase is not shipped yet (Lee filter Sunset) ? Thank you.

A: I see now that it say in stock because when I ordered in April it was listed as custom order.

Q: 4. How many stops of light do the different numbers cut out?

A: The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Blue 4 Hard Edge Graduated Filter is not an ND filter; it changes the color of half the image. The different numbers give you different intensities of blue.

Q: 5. Is this equivalent to 100x100mm? Does this filter fit on NiSi 100mm filter holder?

A: Yes, 4 x 4" is equivalent to 100 x 100mm. Unfortunately though, this is a specialized cine-style filter that is thicker (4mm) than the kind the NiSi holder will take (2mm).

Q: 6. vertical or horizental, tell me the diffenrence use the product's photo?

A: A vertical orientation filter's line of transition runs parallel to the short side of the filter, whereas a horizontally oriented graduated ND filter runs parallel to the long side of the filter.

Q: 7. Does this filter have IR Cut. Have you noticed any IR pollution affecting your image quality?

A: As per the manufacturer, this filter has no IR cut nor IR pollution when using it.

Q: 8. this lists a 10 year warrantywhere can I read the terms and conditions of the warranty?

A: Schneider's warranty provisions can be found here: http://bit.ly/108Lg6k

Q: 9. Is this a hard edge or a soft edge?

A: soft edge

Q: 10. Will this 77mm filter fit onto the Canon RF 70-200mm f2.8 lens with the supplied Canon lens hood attached?

A: Yes, the Ice 77mm Soft-Edge Graduated Neutral Density 0.9 Filter (3-Stop) will fit on the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens with the hood attached. Note that it is a Graduated filter and you need to rotate it to get the Graduation in the spot you want. To turn the filter the hood might get in the way.

I've used it in fall landscapes, even though the colors aren't peak yet, and it was just what I wanted. The sky popped out from behind the mountains and the foreground kept it's natural colors. Very versatile, good price.

I used to use a knock-off to the Cokin filter system on my Nikon D600. Although I had tons of graduated filters (including colored grad filters), it was just a hassle to install the filter holder, then insert a filter, etc. This screw-on graduated ND filter goes on and comes off in 30 seconds, so it's a big improvement in how easy it is to use. Got some great shots of the Hawaiian sunsets with it.Only downside is if you choose to stack a circular polarizer and this graduated ND filter, then my lens (a Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8) sees vignetting in the four corners of the frame. But, this isn't really the due to this filter, just the field of view on my lens, so I can't fault this filter for this problem.

Taking pictures of a beautiful sky and sun before dusk with field of corn in the foreground that at the time was a dark green - could not get correct exposure without this filter- rides on my workhorse Zeiss 18mm 3.5 from B&H

No surprises on this filter. It does all it's said to do. The ballistic nylon case seems bigger than it needs to be, but that's just trivial.
