This special edition of The Nines are part of the McLaren/Klipsch "The Legends Series" of products, designed in partnership with McLaren Racing. The Nines' design highlights the success of two men who were legends in their respective fields: Bruce McLaren and Paul W. Klipsch. To honor Bruce McLaren, the speakers tastefully utilize the authentic McLaren papaya color throughout, with side graphics that honor his legacy. They feature Bruce McLaren's printed signature, McLaren coloring, and the number 5 that was emblazoned on the side of his Cooper T45 as he raced it to victory in the 1959 Grand Prix. In addition, the McLaren Edition of The Nines includes the limited edition book, "Voices of Legends".

The solid MDF body of each speaker is covered in a real-wood veneer. They feature tactile switches and knobs for classic manual functionality.

The Nines can dynamically adjust the bass level based on volume, matching your ear's ability to hear lower-end frequencies.

A single RCA line-level output can accommodate an optional powered subwoofer for increased bass response.

The Klipsch Connect app makes owning a pair of The Nines even easier. It provides assisted setup, a virtual remote, EQ presets, how-to videos, and more.

  • HDMI ARC with CEC support for single cable TV connection
  • Bi-amped for improved clarity and output
  • Digital optical, RCA, USB, and 3.5mm inputs for connecting to a wide variety of sources
  • Bass-reflex via rear-firing port

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this speakers be pair with other audio bluetooth device?

A: This can only be connected to a Roku soundbar or Roku TV.

Q: 2. Will these speakers work with Sony STR-DH590 receiver?

A: Yes you should have no issues using these speakers with the STR-HD950.

Q: 3. Does this speaker requires its own power outlet? Can I plug this speaker into a power bar or surge protector?

A: Yes, each speaker requires it's own AC power connection. The power cords are included and connecting to a surge protector would be recommended.

Q: 4. What cables are recommended to use with Mackie Big Knob Passive Studio Monitor Controller (Gray) BH #MABKPSMC?

A: The Klipsch Reference R-40M Bookshelf Speakers (Pair), BH # KLR40MBLK, cannot connect directly to the Mackie Big Knob Passive Studio Monitor Controller (Gray), B&H # MABKPSMC. The Mackie Big Knob is designed to connect with powered/active monitors.

Q: 5. What accessory would I need to be able to connect it to my MacBook Pro?

A: The only input type on the Klipsch Reference R-40M Bookshelf Speakers (Pair), B&H # KLR40MBLK, is a binding post pair, which will accept bare speaker wire or speaker wire connected with a banana plug. To connect a MacBook Pro to these speakers, the simplest method would be by using a stereo receiver. You could use speaker wires to connect a receiver like the Sony STR-DH190 Stereo Receiver (B&H # SOSTRDH190) to the speakers, then connect a MacBook Pro to the receiver via Bluetooth or over a 1/8" aux cable from the computer's headphone jack.

Q: 6. When mounted horizontally, can you tilt them downward? Looks like mounted vertically they do allow tilting downward. Thanks!

A: No. They will not tilt when mounted in the horizontal orientation. They would swivel laterally.

Q: 7. I'm trying to understand the difference between the first and second generation of the Klipsch RP-500SA. Searched the web and didn't see any useful information. Is there a significant difference?

A: The 2nd Gen RP comes with an updated tractrix horn and new woofers made of spun-copper thermoformed crystal polymer for the purpose of minimizing resonance. Here is a link to a Klipsch page with further details on this. https://www.klipsch.com/blog/next-generation-reference-speakers-whats-the-difference

Q: 8. I have a ROKU StreamBar & in addition a Subwoofer & ONE pair of these surround speakers. Can I connect another pair to my setup?

A: Only one pair of the Roku Wireless Speakers (Pair) BH #RO9020R2 can be linked.

Q: 9. Can these speakers be paired with a two channel amp rated at 50wpc at 4 ohm and 35wpc at 8 ohm?

A: These speakers are rated at 6 ohms. Running them from a 4 ohm source has the potential to damage the amp and the speakers, if played loudly and for long periods. I'm not recommending this practice, but if you proceed cautiously.

Q: 10. Can you use these in different rooms at the same time?

A: The Roku Wireless Speakers (Pair) BH #RO9020R2 are made to be used as a pair.

These speakers were purchased to provide better sound for small audio system in our basement rec room.  They are being powered by a well cared for Yamaha RX-396 which is rated at 50w x 2 @ 8 Ohms.  The Sony SS-CS5 is a 6 Ohm speaker and is completely at home with this modest amplification.

These speakers have quite the bass output for their woofer size and although they lack a little mid-range detail and depth I cannot say anything bad about them given their price point.  My reference system is a set of Paradigm Studio 100s v5 powered by an Anthem 225 toroidal amp fed by a Bifrost Multibit DAC decoding full FLAC and--blah blah blah.

These small speakers are a fantastic value for a simple inexpensive stereo set up.

I have loved Klipsch speakers for a long time, but had become disappointed with their direction for a while. I was reluctant to buy any Klipsch headset, so I bought a series of other headsets first. Here is a brief summary of each, with highlights of the Klipsch T5 II ANC - spoiler alert - I love them!

Sony WI-1000x: very comfortable around the neck, but also fit in the ear. The sound is full, and the colume range is the best of all those listed. There are two drawbacks. One, the mic picks up everything- shirt/jacket movement against the headband, wind noise is unbearable for those you call, and in high winds, the cords to the ear buds create a howling noise and can drown out the music you are listening to. Drawback 2: You can only connect to one device at a time - phone or computer, but not both.

Plantronics Voyager 6200 UC: I LOVE the styling and functionality of all the buttons - EXACTLY the way all headsets should be set up. The problem is, the sound quality is awful. Everything sounds as though it is coming out of a CB radio. Really disappointing.

Aftershokz OpenCom with boom mic: This is my second favorite overall. The fit is comfortable, you can hear everything around you, and the noise cancelling boom mic does really well in high winds. My biggest challenge is that sometimes I help a friend of mine on his farm, and when driving semi, it can be difficult to hear over the engine noise. The volume of these is not always adequate, and because the sound is transmitted through bone conducting technology, you cannot expect a crisp sound. Rather dull.

Bose Sport Earbuds: sound quality is excellent as you would expect. But that's where the fun ends. Incredibly uncomfortable. I cannot wear for more than 2 hours.

Klipsch T5 II ANC - Excellent sound quality, immensely comfortable, strong volume range, great ANC, high quality noise canceling mic in high winds (2nd best). This is my absolute favorite.

I do not know why I had not purchased these before now. I love the sounds, plenty of mid range, plenty of highs, and I have decided not to purchase a sub woofer because the bass is great for me since I have no desire to vibrate my neighbors windows, I absolutely love these speakers.

They're really nice speakers. When you think of Sony, you don't typically think of speakers. Obviously someone at Sony had another great idea, and it payed off. I recommend them to others.

These sound fantastic, especially for the half off sale price. I have them in a 5.1 home theater setup. Front and rear. They can handle a decent amount of power for the size.

I purchased these for music listening. I had been using a vintage pair of Advent mini bookshelf speakers but wanted something much better. The Klipsch speakers sit on a shelf about 4.5 feet high and about 6-7" from the wall. I listen from about 15 feet away, slightly below axis. My audio sources are all analog (AR XA turntable and Sony tape decks). I have been listening to everything (Stan Getz, Chicago, ELO, The Cure). So far, these speakers are amazing. I do not find them overly bright, as many reviewers have said. I actually find them very neutral and accurate. The bass is very good. I could easily tell a standup bass from an electric. I can hear the breathiness of Stan Getz sax playing. One of the most noticeable abilities of these speakers is to reproduce drums and cymbals accurately. I could hear things I hadn't noticed before (little accidental rim shots, the sound of the wooden drumstick hitting the bell of the ride cymbal. Not just the cymbal but the sound of the stick). I listened to a vinyl copy of ELOs second album. My old Advent's failed miserably on this one (in fact it was painful). These Klipsch speakers reproduced everything flawlessly. I don't think I have ever enjoyed this album as much. The strings, synths and even Jeff Lynn's guitar all sounded amazing and coherent, as they were intended. This morning, I listened to a copy of Moody Blues Days of Future Passed from a cassette tape (with Dolby). Again, the sound was great. I forgot I was listening to a cassette. I was doubtful that speakers this small and inexpensive could really do what Klipsch is known for, but these really sound amazing. They are bright and clear but seem very accurate and detailed. I don't like dull speakers but didn't want excessively bright either. These seem to be just right.

We are using these as both part of a whole-house speaker system, with these in the den, and as part of the den TV's sound system in a fairly basic setup. They sound great, handle movie bass, and they look really good. Straight forward, uncomplicated wire connections. For the price, A+. Note: They have a substantial weight.
