The Jensen Vintage Ceramic C12R IR Library for TH-U SuperCabinet from Overloud is a SuperCabinet IR library that captures the smooth tones of the vintage Jensen C12R ceramic speaker in 1x12 and 2x12 open-back cabinet configurations captured by 19 microphones in 16 positions for an impressive 1216 total impulse responses. Typically used in low-powered studio or practice amps, this IR library is a great choice for sparkling clear sounding tone.

The 19 mics were used to record in four different horizontal positions, two distances, and two angles, for a total of 16 IRs each. For situations when the tone is too bright for modern uses, Overloud includes a convenient remastered version of each IR, which have a finely tuned top-end response for increased warmth in more contemporary-style settings, effectively doubling the number of available IRs. Designed exclusively for the SuperCabinet IR processor, a program which makes it easy to blend and create custom cabinet tones and export IRs in WAV format for use in external IR loaders and modelers, the Jensen Vintage Ceramic C12R IR Library is an ideal choice for those seeking warm lows and mids, smooth, bright highs, and crunchy overdrive in a versatile and affordable package.

The Jensen Vintage Ceramic C12R IR library is designed exclusively for use with the TH-U SuperCabinet program, which can either be used as a standalone IR library or with the TH-U plug-in program. SuperCabinet allows you to:

  • Graphically browse the IRs in the library
  • Blend them together
  • Craft new cabinet tones with the unique multiband mode
  • Use the IR in the software
  • Export the IRs in WAV file format, compatible with software IR loaders and all the major hardware modelers

This is a systematic capture of a Jensen Vintage Ceramic C12R speaker, from the Vintage Series, installed in two different enclosures:

  • 1x12" open-back cabinet
  • 2x12" open-back cabinet

This process resulted in a total of 1216 IRs, developed in conjunction with a Jensen Speakers product specialist, in order to recreate the most authentic playing experience, as if you were playing an original speaker.

Typically used in the vintage lower powered 12” amps for studio or practice, the C12R is a clear sounding, sparkling speaker, very sensitive to the character of the attached amplifier. When paired with a stout, rich, and warm electronic design it can do wonders. Ampeg Jets and Reverberockets are just some of the most revered amps that carried C12R as their factory choice. Installed in a vintage correct selection of cabinets, the C12R shines in each of the 19 microphones and 16 positions captured.

This library also includes the remastered version of all the IRs. The vintage Jensen speakers were designed mainly for clean tones. The maximum overdrive achievable back in those days was generated by the amplifier's natural clipping and compression and by some of the earlier fuzz pedals. Those speakers were voiced for sparkly, shimmering treble response, with a remarkable amount of energy well over 6 kHz, to be coupled with the warm sounding circuits and the thin, resonant cabinets of the era. The IRs of the Vintage Jensen Speakers behave exactly as expected: bright, clear, and detailed.

In the modern world, especially with high-gain tones that are naturally very rich in harmonic overtones, all this energy in the treble range may occasionally turn in an overly bright, aggressive tone. To further expand the possible applications of these historic speakers, Overloud decided to offer all of the Vintage Jensen IRs with a remastered option, where the top-end response is finely tuned to be warmer and less prominent to make it more suitable for contemporary higher-gain applications. This creates a sort of virtually aged tone that offers a whole new range of sounds for every application. All the IRs in the library are effectively doubled by the remastered version, opening up new possibilities to the player beyond the original hardware.

The microphones used during the capture sessions for this IR library are:

  • AKG C12
  • AKG C414
  • AKG C414 XLS
  • Audio Technica AT4033
  • Beyerdynamic M160
  • Coles 4038
  • Electro Voice RE16
  • Groove Tubes MD1
  • Neumann KM84
  • Neumann U47
  • Neumann U87
  • RODE NT1
  • Royer R121
  • Sennheiser E609
  • Sennheiser MD421
  • Shure B52
  • Shure SM57
  • Shure SM58
  • Shure SM81

Every microphone has been moved to four different horizontal positions (cap, cap edge, cone, and cone edge), two distances and two angles, for a total of 16 IRs each. All the measurements have been repeated for each cabinet in the library, and all IRs have been phase aligned, so they can be blended without phase cancellation.

This filter is working perfectly. Increases the sound quality by reducing any echo or unwanted ambient noise. It's great for VO work, podcasts, vocal recordings etc. I am happy with the sound I'm getting when using this filter; it's been great. It was very easy to put together and fits nicely on any desk or table. The arm is easy to adjust to a comfortable position and it locks down securely. The build quality is also good. Everything locks down well, is adjustable and the acoustic fabric feels good and strong. I also love the look of it. The red and black colors really pop, it looks professional.  It has little rubber feet on the bottom so it will not scratch the surface of a table and/or desk. It is also very portable. Works great in a studio or office, but this is also great to take on location if you need to record a voice over or do a podcast out in the field. I love that flexibility and can see myself bringing it on many productions. I am very impressed with this Isolation filter. Improves the sound quality dramatically, is well built and looks nice. I think it is a great addition to my production equipment. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

The Auray Desktop Iso filter has quickly become something I always bring with me if there is any possibility of voice over work on location.

It packs up small and assembles within a couple minutes which is great when doing remote voice over work going into my laptop setup.

This is very well made and should put up with my transporting it all over the place.

I could also see this working really well for podcasting or a really nice zoom/teams/google video setup. I am going to get a desk arm eventually and mount this for an awesome desk setup.

Once setup and your mic is at the right height this thing works great. (It's pretty easy to get the mic into the exact position you need it in.) I get a nice clean dry sound even in some tough rooms to work in.

This comes in grey and red. Personally I love how the red pops.

Overall, I really enjoy what this filter brings to the table. It gave me a much easier way to get clean VO's quickly on site and anything that saves me time and gives me a better end result I am all for.

I think this Filter is great! I've used this isolation filter for simple voice spots in my home studio office and it looks great and performs amazingly.

I read the review here that gives it one star and I couldn't understand what the person was complaining about with the screws because I found this device to be rather simple to put together and very sturdy.

Upon receiving this filter the first thing that stood out to me was the weight. It's has a nice weight to it which I like. The feet have rubber rings on them which reduces slipping and can damper vibrations and sounds. The base of this filter is all metal and the wall is red on the outside and black felt on the inside.

As a plus the stand can be put on a mic stand incase one would prefer to stand up.

I like this a lot because of the way it looks and for simple fast set ups - this gets the job done. Also something that matters a lot to me is that this filter does NOT look cheap. It looks expensive and the red adds a nice touch in my studio.
