The Rokinon 16mm T2.2 Cine Lens for Sony A is a wide-angle lens optimized for digital cinematography. The lens produces an image circle that will cover APS-C sized sensors or smaller. The focus and aperture rings feature industry-standard 0.8 pitch gearing for attaching a follow focus unit. The aperture ring is also de-clicked to allow for smooth iris pulls while shooting. Focus, aperture, and depth of field markings are on the side of the lens to aid focus pullers, who typically operates on the side of the camera.

The 16mm T2.2 lens is constructed out of 13 individual elements in 11 groups, including one aspherical and one hybrid aspherical element. Aspherical elements help minimize unwanted distortion and chromatic aberrations. The lens also has a multi-layer coating to reduce flares and maintain image contrast in bright conditions.

With an angle of view of 83.1°, the lens is well-suited for shooting landscapes, architecture, and for use in tight interior locations. A maximum aperture of T2.2 means that the lens is effective in low-light shooting and can produce a shallow depth of field when the lens is closer to the subject. The lens has a minimum focus distance of 7.87". A bayonet-mount lens hood and lens pouch come included with the lens.

Q: 1. Is this lens good for a Nikon D3100?

A: Hi there. This is a good wide lens, solid overall performance, sharpest at T4/T4.8 in my usage. The crop factor would be 1.54x I believe.

Q: 2. can this be used for canon c100 and canon 650d ?

A: This lens can be used with any camera regardless of brand as long as the camera has an EF mount.

Q: 3. I've been trying to find comparisons with this lens and the 12mm Rokinon cine, but can't find any...can someone help?

A: You can't put filters on any lens wider than the rokinon 16 mm.

Q: 4. can i use this lens on my nikon d7000?

A: im using it with my BLACK MAGIC POCKET CINE CAM, it should work fine with your nikon d7000. its a great lense.

Q: 5. Is this lens autofocus or manual focus?

A: This is a fully manual lens for both focus and aperture.

Q: 6. Does this lens work for the Sony PXW FS7?

A: The Sony FS7 has a native Sony E mount. For this lens you would need and E mount to EF mount adapter.

    Q: 7. will this work as a 16mm on my BMPCC4k?

A: All lenses used on the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K are subject to the camera's 1.9x crop factor. This lens will be no different, even if it is designed to be used on an MFT mount camera. It will be the equivalent of a 30.4mm lens.

Q: 8. Can you screw on threaded filters to this lens?

A: Yes you can. This lens has a 77mm filter thread.

    Q: 9. This lens is for a full frame? I have a 5dmk3.

A: Yes, this is an EF lens. It will work with a Full Frame camera and a Crop Sensor cameras.

Q: 10. Can this be used on a Blackmagic?

A: If the blackmagic is equipped with an EF mount then yes and works well

This lens is great!! As an editor I have seen footage from a lot of cameras and and lot of lenses and if you are using a cropped sensor camera this lens is perfect for getting a cinematic wide look in your shot. Nice clear shots with great lens flare effects.

I bought this lens to use with my Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera which has a super 16mm sensor. Of course, this is a canon EF mount lens so if you are shooting on an MFT camera you will need an adapter. I bought the Holymanta EF to MFT adapter with built-in variable neutral density filter to kill two birds with one stone, the obvious being adapting this lens, the other reason was to be able to shoot wide open outside in a range of conditions without needing to stop and mess with a bunch of stuff on the front of the lens. This lens is about the equivalent of a 32mm lens on a full-frame camera and it really looked good on my first shoot. I'm sure there are better lenses and I'm sure most of them cost way more but life is short and if you need a good cinema lens that works well right now this is a great option. If you are into shooting with equipment that is designed to work like much more expensive gear, e.g. the BMPCC and can handle some of the drawbacks like working with smaller media such as sdxc cards, short battery life, poorer on-camera audio, etc. then this lens is just another great way to do that. I will definitely be buying more from this Rokinon Cinema Lens line.

I purchased this lens to use on my Canon C-series s35 cameras and my APS-C DSLR to have a good prime that is pretty fast for cinematography. This is a hefty piece of glass for all but the heavier payload rated gimbals but worth it.
Originally, I purchased this lens for wide angle without distortion that shorter lens can have depending upon the sensor size. The 16mm has become my most used compared to my Rokinon 35mm and 85mm. This focal length is perfect for concert jib work and gimbal/steadicam.
The build quality is solid but the provided lens hood does not fit as firmly as an equivalent Canon or Sigma. Generally, I use a mattbox or a 3rd party hood, so it hasn’t been a big deal. The sweet spot for this lens seems to be T2.8 and above for good edge to edge sharpness and minimal CA on stills. For video, those issues do not seem to be as pronounced and becomes part of the “character” of the lens when it’s wide open.

Bought this for the BMCC cause of the sensor crop. Which makes a 16mm about a 30 something mm (??) Anyway... Your serious options in an EF mount cine prime is this, a Canon or Zeiss. in a shootout the canon & zeiss both outperform the Rokinon. HOWEVER outside the context of a quasi scientific optical experiment I say that these are totally fine for storytelling and for straight up beauty shots. I personally wouldn't see the difference (after grading etc.) in the right hands between this lens and the Zeiss equivalent. When you factor the almost as good optics and then you factor in the insanely low price (comparatively) you've got to be a weirdo or a lens snob to not agree that this is an unbelievable good value. .

I got this for capturing video, and I am really impressed. Yes, the lens is largely surrounded with plastic materials and it's very lightweight, but I knew this when I purchased it. It's easy to adjust with the focus ring and aperture ring. Image quality is superb.

I'm a huge fan of the rokinon cine lens series. The 16mm does not disappoint. Far less wide angle distortion than its 14mm brother. The lens is sharp as a tack and performs well in low light with the T2.2 aperture. Pairs amazingly well with my gh4 and metabones speedbooster.
