This solid-state drive supports an NVMe PCIe M.2 interface with a form factor of 2280 (80mm). Featuring Toshiba's BiCS4 96L TLC NAND Flash memory and PCIe 4.0 bandwidth, the drive has a maximum read speed of 7000 MB/s and a 6000 MB/s write speed when installed onto a compatible motherboard. It's backward compatible with PCI 3.0 motherboards, which will deliver read speeds of up to 3400 MB/s and 3000 MB/s write speeds.

This storage drive is also designed to work with Open NAND Flash Interfaces, including ONFi 2.3, ONFi 3.0, ONFi 3.2, and ONFi 4.0. Its built-in power management allows the SSD to work with Autonomous Power State Transition, Active State Power Management, and L1.2 low-power standby modes. Other features include support for SMART and TRIM commands, in addition to integrated Advanced Wear Leveling, Bad Block Management, and Over-Provision technology.

Have been using this for about 4 months with a SABRENT tool-less Thunderbolt 3 enclosure and it is as advertised. Fast, big, and reliable. Loving it.

I was nagged for this review, which I feel is a despicable practice that needs to end. Making it even worse is I haven't even used the SSD or cooler yet (and, if I'm lucky, I never will).

I bought this one for use as a spare SSD so I could quickly replace one of the ones I already have in use if one should ever fail. I bought the combo because it was the same price as the SSD only. However, the heatsink I'm using already is not likely to ever fail.

I have five identical SSDs and one cooler already in use so I'm basing this review off of them. So far, they have been working well. I use them primarily for data storage: four in a desktop computer and one in a laptop.

In both computers, one of the drives in each also serves as a boot partition. For booting and running a computer from, they run as fast, if not faster, than the Samsung 970 Pros they replace which is remarkable considering that the Sabrents are TLC and the Samsungs are MLC. Write life for TLC drives are generally around half that of equally sized MLC drives but are still high enough to make it unlikely for anyone to exhaust the write life before replacing the drives for newer technology.

The heatsink appears to cool better than the one used on the motherboard of my desktop computer. It just barely clears the graphics card (your mileage may vary).

I can personally attest this works perfectly in both 2015 MacBook Pros (Retina models), also in a 2013 MacBook Air (13”). Amazingly fast, and no heat or power issues at all. (I bought mine on Amazon, back in Jan of 2022.) Prices have dropped dramatically since then, so I’m planning to upgrade soon. This time from B&H.

There have been many issues reported with other SSDs in MacBooks, so I did a lot of research. This one uses the least power, so it’s also the coolest running.

For all Mac users, I highly recommend getting DriveDx. Hopefully, I’ll get warned this time before my SSD dies. I didn’t realize it then, but everyone should buy double the total amount of SSD they plan to use regularly. Otherwise, there isn’t enough workspace, and constant writing to the same limited area wears it out.

An adapter is required for these M.2 SSDs. I recommend the “Sintech NGFF M.2 nVME SSD Adapter Card”. Make sure you get the one for your specific model.

Edit: I've since noticed that the heatsink in this package is a newer version that has a different mounting screw arrangement which is absolutely brilliant! Unlike the older version I'm still using, the mounting screw is captive so it can't get dropped and lost. It's also longer and the screw head is located in a recess in the top of the heatsink, making it much, much easier to guide the tip of a screwdriver onto the screw, even if you don't have a clear view of it. If buying the heat sink separately, be sure to get the SB-HTSP version.
