The 10-stop, 49mm ProND EX ND Filter from Hoya reduces the amount of light passing through the lens. When shooting video outdoors, you can set shutter speeds to match your frame rate while maintaining the depth-of-field you want. When shooting moving objects, you can achieve a motion blur that makes the image look more cinematic. For photography applications, the filter lets you use longer exposures or achieve a shallow depth-of-field in bright sunlight.

The ProND EX ND filter uses Hoya's ACCU-ND technology to prevent color shift in order to deliver consistent image quality. ACCU-ND ensures an equal reduction of light in both visible and IR spectrums so that you don't experience color shift when shooting in different outdoor conditions. The filter features 49mm threading on both the front and rear sides. Additional ND filters can be stacked on the front, or you can attach a threaded lens cap or other filter.

Q: 7. Hello. I purchased this filter but I am having difficulty working out the stop values for each dotted marker increment on the outside ring? I assume the first dot is 1 stop and last dot is 5 stops. If you divide the rest by 1/3 stop or 1/2 stop, then it does not work out mathematically. Any tips or manuals for this lens?

A: Unfortunately, this is typical of most variable neutral density filters across the spectrum. The markings between the minimum and maximum do not accurately indicate a precise number of stops, and even brands than mark them with ND factors miss the mark significantly; some brands are off by 1/3~2/3 stops with engraved filter factors. While I am not familiar with the physics and/or engineering reason for this, a commonly accepted technique is to adjust the camera settings first and then dial in the VND filter factor. This might be hard/impractical with longer shutter speeds though, so preemptive testing might be necessary.

Q: 8. Will these filters work on the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 lens?

Q: 9. Can I use a this filter for a Canon 24-105mm and Sigma 18-35mm lens?

A: Yes, but you need one more part to make it fit. You'll need what's called a step-up ring. Your Canon lens is a 77mm filter thread size and you need a step-up ring (super cheap to buy) that spans the difference (a 77mm to 82mm ring). Same for Sigma - need to find a 72-82mm step-up ring or you may have to buy two, a 72-77mm and a 77-82mm. You can shop for them here.
