Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do you need to be able to see Do Do you need to see Polaris for this to work? If so, is there a work around of some sort?

A: This is not a Go-To Device, its designed for polar alignment for more accurate tracking.

Q: 2. Are all brands of ballheads compatible to attach to DEC Bracket?

A: Mounting the iOptron SkyGuider Pro EQ Camera Mount BH #IO3550 • MFR #3550 to the tripod legs or to a tripod head requires a universal 3/8"-16 Female (1/4"-20 Female with Included Adapter), Vixen-Type Plate.

Q: 3. I already have a Polemaster camera to polar align my telescope, and it is easily removed from the telescope. Would that fit in this mount instead of my having to buy the iPolar camera (or the bundle that comes with iPolar)? Yes, I already know the visual polar scope can be used to align the mount, but accuracy is higher with a polar camera.

A: You can use this adapter: https://bhpho.to/2M9tuJP But you will need to perform some DIY to install the adapter onto a SkyGuider Pro DEC bracket. The opening on the DEC bracket is just a little bit smaller than the adapter.

Q: 4. Just to be clear, this comes with the mount head (tracker), the altazimuth base, dec bracket, and counterweight?

A: Yes. Just to confirm, according to the inventory of items in the box, it comes with: iOptron SkyGuider Pro EQ Camera Mount Alt-Az Base Padded Carrying Bag Counterweight Shaft 3-pound Counterweight Vixen-Style Dovetail Saddle Declination Mounting Bracket Micro-USB Battery Charging Cable Limited 1-Year Warranty Limited 90-Day Warranty on Battery

Q: 5. Can you attach an Arca Swiss clamp to the camera mount so you can slide a compatible plate into the clamp rather than using a ballhead with an Arca Swiss clamp. My preference not to have to remove plates from camera/lens to attach to camera mount (attached to the declination bracket)?

A: According to your procedure it would be possible.

Q: 6. I've read that the skyguider pro's alt-az base has difficulty in the north, especially above 45-50°. Has anyone had any experience? It might be the deciding factor for which tracker I buy since I live in Canada.

A: In our experience it works fine at 50 degrees latitude or even farther north.

Q: 7. It seems that if you point a camera on this mount any other way but North, it would track the wrong way. Am I wrong?

A: Yes. If you are in the northern hemisphere, the iOptron SkyGuider Pro EQ Camera Mount needs to be pointed to true north as the first step in the alignment process.

Q: 8. Hi! Does the Skyguider Pro have a guide port? Thanks

A: Yes, the Skyguider Pro has a guide port.

Q: 9. How do get Integrated AutoAlign illuminated polar scope to turn on? I did remove the cap and tried adjusting the LED level.

A: In the manual page 8 figure 5 shows the no off switch.

Q: 10. I'm interested to hear from anyone who used this during the solar eclipse. Would you recommend this?Thank you,Mike

A: This was fantastic during the eclipse. I made very little adjustments aftet setup. I used my remote and enjoyed the show. I've also tracked stars for over 5 min with pinpoint accuracy.

Awesome counterweight. It is a 17lb. Counterweight and let me tell you, it is heavy. Its solid, I mean like solid metal or something. I have no idea what its for, but man this is a heavy! Try holding out at arm length, YOUR ARMS WILL GET TIRED FAST!!!

I was not sure this would fit my AVX mount but found out it would. I ordered this and needed enough weight to balance my setup, but did not need to add another 11lb weight, so this fit my needs exactly.
Now this is the only weight needed for my purpose.
It fits well and looks great, does what it is supposed to do.

As always, B&H is just great with products and fast shipping.
