The Choptones Brit 800 2C Rig Library for TH-U from Overloud is a rig simulator and expansion library for the TH-U Rig Player. Delivering the raunchy snarl and classic Marshall sound that is so widely soughtafter by guitarists, this rig library is an ideal choice for players seeking a classic rock and hair metal sound with loads of versatility, thanks to its numerous speaker/cab combos, capture mics, and gain-boosting pedals.

This rig library was captured with 14 different microphones and eight different cabinet and speaker combinations, ranging from 1x12 to 4x12 cabinets to numerous revered Celestion speakers such as Celestion V30, G12T75, and Alnico Blue, for a total of 78 rigs. Five gain-enhancing pedals were also used in the capture from Ibanez, Carl Martin, Boss, and more, for even greater aggression and bite. Designed to be used in any version of TH-U that sports Overloud's Rig Player, a 3D amp simulator, which makes it easy to reproduce accurate real-world rig models and tweak them to your desire, the Choptones Brit 800 2C is a great choice for dirty overdrive and classic Marshall guitar tone that can deliver big chords and searing leads.

With the BRIT 800 2C, Choptones have recreated the sound of a classic rock beast, the Marshall 4210 JCM800 2-channel combo amp. The 4210 is the combo version of the classic JCM800 amp head and is famed for its use in '80s hair metal. While it excels in classic rock scenarios, this rig is also adept at other lead-oriented styles such as blues, where the dirty overdrive and cutting lead channel can shine through. Despite its relatively small size at only 50W, the amp combo can produce enough volume to punch well above its weight, and with a slight nudge of gain will instantly produce the oft soughtafter Marshall sound.

The Brit 800 2C rig library was captured using numerous cabinets and speakers, for a wide variety of Marshall and Celestion flavors. The eight cabinet and speaker combos include:

  • Marshall 1960 4x12 loaded with Celestion V30
  • Marshall 1960 4x12 loaded with Celestion G12T75
  • Marshall 425 4x12 loaded with Celestion G12C
  • Marshall 4210 1x12 loaded with Celestion G12T75
  • Friedman 4x12 loaded with Celestion V30
  • EVH 5150III 4x12 loaded with Celestion G12EVH
  • Mesa/Boogie 2x12 loaded with Celestion A-Type
  • Vox 2x12 loaded with Celestion Alnico Blue

This rig library was created using an assortment of 14 different quality microphones for a range of IRs and tones to ensure accurate and flexible simulation. This list includes:

  • Shure SM57, SM57, and SM7
  • Sennheiser MD421 and e609
  • Royer R121
  • Beyerdynamic M160
  • Neumann U87
  • AKG C414
  • Audio-Technica AT2035
  • Audix i5
  • Grundig GDM121
  • RM700
  • Retrotube II

Along with its many cab/speaker combos and mics, this rig library was captured using five guitar pedals for potent gain boosting and further sonic possibilities. These include:

  • Boss HM2
  • Carl Martin Plexitone
  • Paul Cochrane Timmy OD
  • Ibanez TS9
  • Marshall Bluesbreaker

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. In what increments will it display measured lux? Eg: 0-1999lx rounded to 1s place. 2000-19,990 to the 10s place etc. (Not range)

A: The Sekonic SPECTROMETER C-800 displays lux to the single digits. For example 2161 is a lux reading that it may show.

Q: 2. Can the c-800 measure flicker in the incident light? If not is there a different model that will measure flicker?

A: No, this light meter cannot do that. The C-800 will measure all visible spectrum colors and also brightness. If you'd like to measure the flicker of your light, you can set your light to the desired power setting (typically 20-50% if doing so specifically for measuring flicker) and adjust the shutter speed of your camera until you see indications of uneven exposure such as dark bands or stripes in the frame. Please note that you can often defeat flicker by turning up a light to 100%, or in still photography by shutting off a silent shutter or front electronic curtain shutter setting. Many modern mirrorless or DSLR cameras also feature anti-flicker settings which can delay a shutter release just enough (mere microseconds) to take advantage of the moments in the flicker cycle when the light is most consistent. The Gossen MAVOSPEC BASE Industrial Light Meter (BH #GOM521) will measure flicker, and it typically is used for industrial purposes as it lacks certain photography-oriented features of the Sekonic C-800 such as measuring flash duration for exposure. It would be useful if you are testing lights and aren't concerned about setting your exposure, however: https://bhpho.to/3qlOuj4

Q: 3. Is this meter also a light meter measuring incident and spot?

A: The main function of this meter is to measure color, but it can also provide readings in foot candles.

Q: 4. Is this the CG-800D that charges twice as fast? This is the only thing that comes to up with a search

A: Its a great charger, with time the contacts become lose.

Q: 5. How much is calibration? How often is it required?

A: This meter comes fully calibrated from the factory and does not require calibration on a regular basis.

Q: 6. Is there an "R" version like the C-700R that can trigger flash via radio slave or does it ONLY have a PC cord terminal?

A: The Sekonic SPECTROMETER C-800 can only be connected to a flash using the PC synch terminal. This unit is not designed to work with wireless modules to trigger flashes.

Q: 7. As an event video shooter our most challeging task is to record in uncontrolled light situations with multiple cameras and make them cut nicely in edit... with this meter will it allow us to know the most precise overall Kelvin temp of several ambient lights in a room and any magenta/green necessary adjustments? We have used grey cards but the cameras have crazy readings when we use the white balance setting based on those? specially yellow/green painted rooms and vivid green nature backgrounds...

A: This color meter can give you exact information based on the color of the light. Depending on where and how you meter relative to other lights you can get a combined reading or a reading per light. Color meters are more accurate than gray cards for setting white balance.

Q: 8. The Sekonic C-7000 industrial model can export a CSV file with spectral distribution data in 1 and 5-nm samples. Can the C-800 do this? The table in the software's manual would seem to indicate not.

A: I'm sorry, no.

Q: 9. work with canon 20d?

A: This charger is for Canon consumer camcorder batteries. It will not charge the 20D's BP-511A battery. For that, please use Canons's CG-580 Portable Battery Charger - for 500 Series Batteries, B&H # CACG580 or the Watson Compact AC/DC Charger for BP-511/511A / BP-512 / BP-514 Batteries, B&H # WACCNBP511.

Q: 10. What are the main differences between this one and the C-700-U? Also does C-800 give you F-stop values like a lightmeter? Or should I get a different light meter for that purpose?

A: This is a color meter. While it can measure illumination levels in lux and footcandles, it does not measure in f/stops, shutter, ISO etc, etc. You do need a light meter for that. The main difference from the 700 is that the 800 can measure more types of light. In particular, it is the only affordable, movie technician meter that can measure the new color standard, Spectral Similarity Index (SSI) which is more reliable than CRI.
