Tiffen 82mm Soft/fx 3 Filter

Tiffen 82mm Soft/fx 3 Filter
  • Product Code: ga1098
  • Availability: In Stock

$294.00 $435.12

The Tiffen 82mm Soft/FX 3 Filter can be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles in portraits or to apply a general soft-focus effect while maintaining overall sharpness. An array of small lenses distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.

This filter has a grade of 3. Grades of 1/2, 1, 2, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. When higher grade numbers are applied, a halation effect around highlights can be created to further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Q: 1. I just received the Tiffen 77mm Variable Neutral Density filter and it rattles when I shake it. The glass on the interior (camera) side is loose and it rotates inside the ring. This is my first variable ND filter so I am wondering if a loose rear element is normal for this filter or is mine defective?

A: Bill, it sounds like your rear filter glass is loose. We can send you instructions on how to fix this yourself, or you can send it in for repair under warranty. Please submit the form at a href= http://tiffen.com/contact/. target= _blank http://tiffen.com/contact/./a Make sure to include a copy of your receipt and a description of the problem. We will send you information on how to fix it yourself or send it in for repair under warranty.

Q: 2. I have recently purcahsed this filter and I used it for the first time last week. I find that when I use it at apertures smaller than f8 that a discoloured area appears (I suspect it is refracted light as in some instances I see banding of different colours). I suspect I received a bad copy but wanted to check if others had this issue as well?

A: Please submit an inquiry to Tiffen technical support at a href= http://tiffen.com/contact/. target= _blank http://tiffen.com/contact/./a Make sure to include a copy of your receipt and two photos of the same subject. One taken without the filter, one taking with the filter showing the issue.

Q: 3. can it be used for a Sony 24/70 2.8 lens?

A: Yes, this can be used with a Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens.

Q: 4. What is the cut off wavelength of this filter?

A: The 87 begins transmitting just past 700nm .3% and reaches 50% at 800nm and hits a maximum transmission of around 85% at 1200nm

Q: 5. I intend to use this on the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. Has anyone seen vignetting at the extremes?

A: This would depend on if you are shooting a full frame or cropped sensor camera body. On a full frame sensor, vignetting is likely at the wider focal lengths of your lens. On a cropped sensor camera, this is less likely due to the magnification factor.

Q: 6. I'd like to add this filter to the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. Is the 58mm filter the right size? Also is there a way to use a lens hood with the filter in place and if so what type?

A: The filter is the right size. The lens hood for the 18-55 is called the ew-63c made by Canon. There is a possibility that they could work together but i wouldn't bet on it. The hood would have to be applied before attaching the filter, and even if the filter could fit on with the lens hood attached it would be near impossible to tighten it on the filter ring. But the good news is that isn't really a problem. With modern coating on lenses, lens hoods, which prevent lens flare is practically not an issue unless you are shooting right in to the sun or bright light source. A lens hood wouldn't be able to prevent lens flare anyways when shooting into a bright light source. Basically, a lens hood will not have a large practical purpose so there's no reason to shoot with one on while using the neutral density filter.

Q: 7. Is it fit with sony 24 mm GM

A: Yes, this will work well on the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM prime lens.

Q: 8. I want to get a bigger filter size so I can just step it down to any desired lens size. I just want to know if it will cause any vignette or distortion when stepping down?

A: When stepping down it will not.

Q: 9. does the Tiffen 52mm fader have front threads? the product photo doesn't show any, and I read a review stating there were no front threads---I realize the specs indicate it has the threads---just want to be surethank you

A: The Tiffen 52mm Variable Neutral Density Filter does not have front filter threads.

Q: 10. Will the Tiffen 58mm ND Filter fit onto my Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM LensCanon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens, or my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM LensCanon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens? Will it fit onto my Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens? If not what mm size Tiffen Variable ND Filter should I purpose? Thank you

A: This filter will fit any lens with a 58mm filter thread. Look at your lens, usually near the end of the lens the filter size is marked next to a O with a slash through it. This indicates diameter. Otherwise, you can look up the specs of your lens filter diameter on your manufacturers website, or through the B&H website.
