This 52mm Black Mist 1/4 and 1/8 Filter Kit from NiSi can be used to create a cinematic look by lowering contrast and highlights within the frame to balance the tonal range between highlights and shadows. Black mist diffusion filters are also commonly used to help soften wrinkles, blemishes and create a flattering image of a subject. Black mist suppresses highlights and lifts shadows for well-balanced contrast. Light sources maintain a strong center with a pleasing glow from the light source. Beyond portraiture, black mist filters can also be used in other applications, such as night photography, landscape, and still life, to create a cinematic atmosphere by adding extra blooming and gradients to the highlights in a scene. Any direct light source will become more film-like, with a smoother, buttery texture around the highlights.

Made of optical glass, the filters in this kit have strength grades of 1/4 and 1/8, the filter effect becomes approximately twice as strong as a grade number increases. Each filter features a 52mm aluminum ring, and the kit includes a convenient storage case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How do the NiSi closeup filters work with MFT's cameras. I see their website discusses full frame and APS-C, but no mention of MFT's?

A: These close up filters can work with a Micro 4/3 series camera and a lens which accepts the thread sizes that the lens offers.

Q: 2. Are there adapter rings for the 82 mm kit to allow the filters to be used on 67mm and 72mm lenses?

A: You can use a standar step up ring to connect the 82mm filters on lenses with a smaller diameter. Please review the options below. 1-67-82mm step up ring https://bhpho.to/3IMV5yt 2- 72-82mm step up ring https://bhpho.to/3Pb6RGo

Q: 3. Is the circular polarizer included in this kit the same as the Hoya Alpha Circular Polarizer sold separately?

A: We are fairly certain it is a Hoya HMC Circular filter. The Alpha Circular Polarizer costs as much as this set.

Q: 4. It looks like the front element of the retro version is sticking out 1mm further than the regular S version : less vignetting ?

A: Yes, Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 (SE) front element does not have a flat surface. However this lens was design for full frame cameras, and their is no vignetting problems in neither of the lenses.

Q: 5. How do we adapt this 86/95mm set to most of my smaller lenses? Does Nisi make an adapter for a 62mm filter to fit the 95mm nd?

A: The Ice Magnetic Step Up Ring Filter Adapter (62-95mm), B&H # ICMSUR6295, would be the correct step-up ring adapter that would allow you to connect the NiSi Swift FS ND Filter Kit with ND8, ND64, and ND1000 for 86mm and 95mm Filter Threads to a lens that has 62mm front filter threads. https://bhpho.to/3ibpmZT

Q: 6. Would this work with the Lensbaby Sweet 50 optic?

A: This is not compatible with the Lensbaby Sweet 50 Optic.

Q: 7. Can I mount all three filters on at the same time?

A: You can, but you shouldn't.

Q: 8. will this fit my canon 50mm 1.8 with 52mm front?

A: Yes, they are fully compatible.

Q: 9. For best results, should I remove the UV filter from my lens before attaching the NiSi Close-Up Lens?

A: Yes; while it is not required if your UF filter has front filter threads, if you wish to obtain optimum results, I would recommend removing your UV filter before connecting the NiSi 58mm Close-Up NC Lens to your lens.

Q: 10. When powering the camera off, does the 40 f2 close down its aperture blades? Mine stays open or at f#. Asking re: dust sealing

A: The Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 (SE) Lens would not close the aperture blades when a camera is powered off. A camera's dust sealing has no relation to the closing of aperture blades as aperture is inside the lens; there is no way to fully close apertures blades.
