Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can this adapter be used on the Bolt VM-160 ring light?

A: No, the adapter ring will only adapt to the MF18 Macro Flash unit.

Q: 2. Can I use rechagable AA batteries? Are a little bit thicker

A: Yes, the Nissin MF18 Macro Ring Flash for Nikon can use most AA rechargeable batteries.

Q: 3. Would there be any compatibility issues that I may be missing with a Sigma 150mm macro? I know that I would fit with the correct adapter but I found an Amazon review stating that it did not work with their 150mm due some shutter speed limitations.

A: It will work just fine. I've been using it with the Sigma 150mm Macro OS version (latest) for nearly two years now with no problems. I'm not sure what the Amazon reviewer was referring to (it kind of makes no sense). For best results: after you get it dialed the way you like it, change your settings either in the camera or on the flash itself otherwise things can get screwy and you'll spend a lot of time scratching your head to figure out what is going on. I recommend changing settings on the flash as it's much easier and faster.

Q: 4. Is the outside of this ring flat?

A: Yes.

Q: 5. Can this also act as the "commander" module for an off camera Nissin Di700a flash?

A: This flash has wireless optical control over flashes like the Di700A.

Q: 6. Is this compatible with Sony A7iii?

A: Yes, but ast it is dedicated to the Canon system, it can only be used in the manual mode on a Sony system via the center contact pin on the hotshoe.

Q: 7. Can you trigger the modelling light from a Sony camera button?

A: According to the user manual, you may only activate the modeling light via the SET button and not via a camera function/button. 1. To switch on the modeling LED lamps, press set for 2 seconds. 2. The LED lamps switch off temporarily when the flash fires, then switch on again for the next shoot. The icon (light bulb) is indicated on the screen. 3. To switch off the modeling LED lamps, press set for 2 seconds.

Q: 8. Will this attach to. 90mm tamron macro lens?

A: The flash comes with 6 adapter rings that mount on the filter threads on the front of the lens which is a different number from the focal length I believe your mentioning. The adapter rings come in 52mm / 58mm / 62mm / 72mm / 77mm. You will need to check to see what size filer your lens takes and then compare to the list above.

Q: 9. Is this 82mm adapter ring compatible with the Godox MF-R76 Macro Ring Flash?

A: No, this Nissin 82mm Adapter Ring is only for the Nissin MF-18 Macro Flash.

Q: 10. Is it compatible with NIkon D810 on i-TTL and Flash compensation mode?

A: It works perfectly in my D800 / In fact I do also have a D70, a D90 and a D7100 // The Nissin is a great product and provides an easy way to deal with i-TTL with my Nikons.I am a Dentist and macros are my photos in the office. I have everything on flash lights for those cameras //SB29 - SB200 (the complete kit including the remote command 800), the Medical lens itself and the Nissin /The Nissin has tons of adjustments and a great auto mode and it's also a user friendly interface, very intuitive.I definitively recommend this product.

Ring flash is lightweight, very easy to mount and feels stable. Programming is intuitive. Nice quality of light and the assortment of adapter rings is very helpful. I wish the terminal box could be smaller and lighter.

MF18 is used with a Nikon D7100 and a 40 mm Nikkor Micro lens. If D7100 is set to auto and the flash is set to auto you may get very underexposed results. However, with very minor setting changes, the results are stunning. Use it as a master flash to a Nikon SB-800 and a SB-910 with outstanding results. The MF18 comes with a series of lens adapters which cover all 6 of my lenses. The modeling LEDs could have a higher Lumen output but is acceptable. Have recommended the MF18 to my other colleagues.

I use this ring flash on a Macro Nikkor 60mm lens, with a Nikon body for dental/orthodontic photography. The light dispersion is very good, the recharge time is excellent, and I like the ability to increase the strength on one side compared to the other to avoid shadows.

This Nissin MF18 Ring Flash adds a whole new dimension to my macro photography. The cost was more than some similar flashes but well worth it. Well made and performs great. Had to contact Nissin for some tech help and got immediate reply and issue solved. Highly recommend.
