Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If using only legacy lenses, a mount adapter would always be needed, but not the ND filter. If shooting when the filter is not needed, would I have to purchase the basic mount adapter, or can I just remove the filter from the adapter?

A: Yes, that is correct. SOMETHING has to be in the filter slot 1) in order to simply keep dust and debris out of the adapter (without the ND filter or the clear filter, there would be a large opening in your adapter on which your lens connects), and 2) as the adapter was designed with the ND filter in mind, the filter becomes part of the optical formula. Without a piece of glass with the same design and size in the slot, it may affect proper focusing. As such, the Canon Drop-In Clear Filter A, B&H # CADICFA, is required when you are not using the ND filter and you do not want the effect of an ND filter on your image.

Q: 2. can you use third-party filters like breakthrough photography filters in this adapter?

A: The Meike Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF to EOS-R with Variable ND Filter is a lens adapter that includes a Drop-In Variable ND Filter (ND3-ND500) and clear drop in filter. It is not designed to hold any other filter.

Q: 3. Is the outer-edge threaded?. If so, what size?

A: There does not appear to be any sort of screw for mounting another lens on the front of this one.

Q: 4. Would this work with my old sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6 dc hsm and the new EOS R7? I only see the Sigma 10-20 3.5, on the compatibility list

A: The Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 DC HSM lens is not compatible with the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Variable ND Filter.

Q: 5. Will this work on a Komodo?

A: While Canon does not list compatibility of the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Variable ND Filter with the RED DIGITAL CINEMA KOMODO 6K Digital Cinema Camera (Canon RF), as the camera uses the Canon RF lens mount, yes, the adapter should be compatible for usage on the Komodo 6K Digital Cinema Camera.

Q: 6. If I use this on a full frame camera will it change the crop factor?

A: No. This adapter does not change the crop factor.

Q: 7. The idea of a rear drop in filter holder is excellent. If you are using native R lenses, will there be a way to use a drop in rear filter feature? Funny that this feature would only apply to legacy glass.

A: No there is no option for that.

Q: 8. Can we change lenses without removing the adapter? In other words can the adapter stay in the camera when change lens?

A: Yes, the lens can be removed from the Meike Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF to EOS-R with Variable ND Filter without removing the adapter form the camera.

Q: 9. Will these NDs fit the Mavic Pro 2?

A: The PolarPro Cinema Series Variable ND Filter Combo for Mavic Air 2 will not work for the Mavic 2 Pro.

Q: 10. Can this be used in as a drop in rear element for a 400mm Nikon lens?

A: Unfortunately no. The K&F Concept 52mm Nano-X HD Variable ND2-32 Fader Waterproof & Scratch-Resistant Filter has a 52mm mounting thread for mounting on the front of a lens but the front of the filter has 55mm threads for using a 55mm cap or other filters. Therefore it is too large to fit into a 52mm drop in holder.

Very pleased about the range of this product, it can take me to a slight darkness to significant darkness. Im using this to keep my settings fixed during outdoor slr video shooting. Very happy.

I previously had an ND filter that was fixed, but in a different size. This one goes from clear to dark steplessly. Why aren't all of them made this way? This one is also less expensive! I think it's a great buy! FYI I discovered if you set up your camera on AV Mode, then you can use the ND Filter to select the shutter speed you need. This makes it easy to get the desired shutter speed, using the filter. And the autofocus still works as normal. If you have a Hoodman Loupe you can check the effect as you are shooting. Great Accessory.

I bought this variable ND filter for better control of my photography. It has exceeded my expectations in waterfall and river photography. The low price attracted my attention but I was quite skeptical. I was not disappointed. I would recommend this filter to any DSLR photographer.

This filter is great for taking long exposures during daytime. Water in the ocean or a stream or river can have a surrealistic look when using a long exposure. The price was a good deal also.

I used this filter to capture the August 21st, 2017 total solar eclipse from the viewpoint of Dubois, Wyoming. The simple concept of rotatable linear polarizers made the extraordinarily fast change in light level smooth and easy to correct for. Just by rotating the filter slightly I could go from direct sunlight to complete darkness levels without damaging the alignment of my camera. The image I captured is on the sony a6000 with a 1988 sigma 75-300mm beercan lens (which is typically found for $20 used).

Tried to purchase a more expensive version of this filter. Salesman talked me into this make. It was well worth the change. Works very well. Would recommend to anyone.

Good ND for all around uses as long as you are aware with the line between the max and min, there's like half clear half dark exposure (separation between the two).. minimm or no color cast, good contrast..
