With a clamshell design, the 8.5 x 11 x 1.4" Onyx Portfolio Box from Archival Methods flips open to allow easy access to your prints. The interior of the box is lined with an 80 lb acid- and lignin-free black paper. With a depth of 1.4", the clamshell box can accommodate 14x 4/2 ply, 10x 4/4 ply, and 20x 2/2 ply matted prints. The adhesive used in construction is pH balanced, and the archival box has passed the Photographic Activity Test (PAT), which makes the box suitable for long-term storage.

The box core is made from a 0.100 Kappa Binder's Board, which is lignin- and acid-free, and the sulfur content has been reduced to <0.0008%. The board has been buffered to keep acidity from transferring to the stored materials. Furthermore, the exterior of the box is bound in a library quality F-Grade Buckram (poly-cotton), which is coated in a moisture-resistant, 100% aqueous acrylic.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do you have a binder box that fits legal size paper?

A: I have never seen ones with three rings that are much larger than this one. fits an 8x10ish print

Q: 2. I'm looking for a box that can hold 50 prints made on various fine art papers. Is this deep enough to hold 50? Thanks!

A: Yes, but I found it hard to get all the prints out of the box with ease, other boxes that open up with one side open are far better and deeper

Q: 3. Can this archival binder box fit with 12.25x 10.4 Paterson 35mm Negative Filing Sheet?

A: The dimensions are roughly 13.5 tall x 12.375 wide with the three rings running in the tall direction.

Q: 4. Will this archival binder box accommodate ClearFile Archival Plus Negative Page 35mm 10 strips of 4-Frames (B&H # CLP35104100)? According to a Q&A that product is 9-5/8 wide by 13 tall.

A: No, according to those dimensions it will not accommodates 3-ring page formats over to 10.5 wide by 12.5 tall (26.67 x 31.75 cm).

Q: 5. Can I print my name on the outside with a Cricut?

A: Depending on the Cricut that you have, you could print your name on the outside of this box.

Q: 6. Could this box fit on an overhead bin on a plane? I'm going to a conference in a Month and want to travel with it.

A: That would depend on the plane. No way would it fit in a commuter jet bin. The box is pretty sturdy, but you wouldn't want to have anyone's suitcase on top of it. If I was in your shoes, I'd FedEx the box ahead of my arrival.

Q: 7. How sturdy is this box? Does it really hold up well with use? Thank you!

A: Yes it does. Excellent for archival storage.

Q: 8. dose it have binder holes? for secured Storage in a ring-binder

A: These are normal sleeves without binder holes.

Q: 9. If I'm looking to print 11x14 with sleeves, what size box do I need to get?

A: This box is perfect for your requirements.

Q: 10. How many matted prints will this hold?

A: It varies to the thickness of the mat and print. The box is approximately 2.25 inches deep. So it is a matter of how thick each matted print is.

I've been a fan of Archival Methods for many years. I get these black lined storage boxes for when I plan to make a presentation or give photographs as gift.
These are solidly made and withstand years of opening and closing.

An outstanding product. Made in USA, extremely smooth and precise opening/closing, none of the noxious outgassing typical of many Asian textiles. Best purchase I've made in years.

A photograph isn't complete until it is printed so a nice place to store prints safely is much appreciated.
