The Sennheiser e965 is large-diaphragm, handheld condenser microphone designed for vocal applications. It offers a 1" dual-diaphragm capsule that can give you both cardioid and supercardioid polar patterns. The highly directional nature of the supercardioid pattern is an effective deterrent against acoustic feedback onstage. The mic also offers a high-pass filter to eliminate rumble and a switchable -10 dB pad. With the pad engaged, the mic can handle a startling 152 dB SPL, which is truly loud. It captures frequencies between 40 Hz and 20 kHz. The mic, which requires phantom power to operate, includes a carrying pouch and a mic clip.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is 33.9" the max length the arm can extend from the center of the stand, or is that the max length from end to end of the boom arm?

A: The max length of boom end to end is 33.9"

Q: 2. Has anyone used this mic with a bass guitar and amp? How does it do?

A: This is an outstanding mic for the money to use with a guitar amp.

Q: 3. -Is this tripod really stable to mount a Cascade Microphone New Fat Head II with its Shockmount (# CA119A MFR # 119-A)?

A: I have a iRig Studio Mic, A Metal Pop Filter, and a metal script holder mounted on this Stand. I think it should be able to handle it.

Q: 4. As I mentioned in my review, there is no ON/OFF switch. Does B&H sell a USB-C power/data ON/OFF switch?

A: Yes, we do sell a USB-C data power switch, which is the OBSBOT USB-A to USB-C Data Power Cable with On/Off Switch (B&H # OBOCB2107CT).

Q: 5. Will this microphone work well with the Sony UTX-P40 +48v Phantom power wireless plug on?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser e 865 Handheld Condenser Microphone is compatible for use with the Sony UTX-P40 Wireless Plug-On Transmitter. The transmitter will supply the proper amount of voltage that the mic requires.

Q: 6. Can you detach the tripod base from the main rod that fits into it?

A: No, it is not possible to detach the tripod base of the MS-5230T from the stand's main rod.

Q: 7. What is the total length at collapse position? I want a stand with arm that will fit inside my Pelican 1650 case for flights.

A: I contacted the manufacturer to confirm the collapsed length of the Auray MS-5220T Short Tripod Microphone Stand. The collapsed length of the stand without the boom arm attached is 17.7” and 24.5” with the boom arm attached.

Q: 8. So with the main pole at max height of 31", and then the boom extended straight up at 33" max extension, you could get a mic 64" off the ground?

A: No. While the boom length is listed as 33 inches, when the boom is vertical (easily done), there is considerable overlap of the stand and the boom. Also, the top of the stand itself is more like 29 inches. With everything extended as high as possible, the top of the boom is just over 56 inches from the floor.

Q: 9. Can you remove the boom arm? If so, what threading is used to attach it?

A: The Auray MS-5230T uses 5/8'' threading.

Q: 10. Can a microphone be mounted on the tripod tube with the boom removed? What is the thread size of the tripod tube?

A: The threads on the tube of the K&M 25977 Tripod Microphone Stand with Telescoping Boom are 5/8"-27. The boom arm can be removed from the stand.
