Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is this lens (MFR #2096-550) compatible with Nikon D7000? The compatibility list shows D7100 and D7200 so I assume it is, but wanted to be sure.
A: Yes. Due to its manual-only design, this will work with most Nikon DSLRs. :)
Q: 2. is there a tripod collar available to fit this lens?
A: A tripod collar is only necessary with longer/telephoto lenses.
Q: 3. Hi.Is the lens hood integrated or separate?Thanks.
A: The lens hood is separate and is included with the lens.
Q: 4. A lens this good, you should rightfully list camera bodies as an accessory. I'm a Canon guy for 40 years, but if I buy this lens, Nikon might be the best choice of camera. What is the best match?
A: Probably this answer is too late for you, but I'm being careful about evaluation of this lens. I'm using it on a Nikon D800e, and it's performing beautifully, especially for night shots where the specular highlights are well contained and don't seem to bloom on the sensor . The only drawbacks I've found is it's not macro, it's not weather sealed, and the cost has diminishing returns. I understand the trade-off for not having macro focus; increasing the focus range would reduce the precision of focus in the normal range, and also probably complicate the movement of the internal elements. Not sealing it against moisture makes sense if the intended use is in the studio.Still, there is some truth to the hype. The coupling to the in-focus indicator is better than any other manual focus lens I own including a Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100. Because digital cameras are dependent on auto-focus, they do not come with optical focusing aids. Focusing is accomplished either normally through the viewfinder--something I find difficult to do with precision--using live view--which can be done with a tripod and relatively static subjects--or with the focus indicator. The clarity and contrast of the image produced by this lens allows it to be used with the focus indicator on the D800e, an important practical feature.
Q: 5. How would you compare this with the Otus 85mm?
A: The first place to start is by comparing the technical data, in particular the MTF, vignetting and distortion charts. This will give you an objective overview, without influence of camera or subject matter. Of course, the latter has relevancy and the best way to compare is a side-by-side shoot out by renting the lenses from a reputable company. Q: 6. What makes it worth a whopping $5K?
A: it renders and incredibly sharp but velvet-y image. drawback (besides the price) this lens is very heavy.
Q: 7. What Zeiss Lens gear do you use with this lens? Small, mini or medium?
A: This will require the "large" Zeiss lens gear.
Q: 8. is this lens has internal focus system compatible for matte box?
A: This is correct, there is no external movement of the lens barrel when focusing the Milvus 2.8/18 lens.
Q: 9. How does the Milvus compare to the Contax Zeiss 21mm?
A: While also a manual focus lens like a Contax Zeiss Distagon T* 21mm, the Milvus offers an electronically controlled aperture on Canon EOS bodies, improved lens coatings and a weather sealed design.
Q: 10. This lens is pretty heavy, do I need a tripod collar or something to additionally support it when I mount it on a tripod?
A: You do not need additional support when using the ZEISS Milvus 1.4/35 lens, it is well suited for use on EF and F mount DSLR cameras.
