Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between RXD and VXD lenses?

A: Tamron lenses with RXD in the name use the Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive focus motor. The RXD motor uses an actuator to precisely control the rotational angle of the motor, allowing it to directly drive the focusing lens without passing through a reduction gear. Tamron lenses with VXD in the name use the Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive focus motor. Focus tracking is better for sports and racing photography and video.

Q: 2. can this lens work with a teleconverter, and if so, which one?

A: This lens will not work with a teleconverter.

Q: 3. Will face detection and autofocus work on video mode on Sony A7iii?

A: Yes. The unit will offer real-time AF tracking, face and eye detection.

Q: 4. Does this lens have manual focus ability?

A: Yes, the Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Lens for Sony E supports manual focus as well as autofocus.

Q: 5. Do I need a device to mount this lens to the tripod, or is it OK to just the camera only with this lens

A: Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Lens for Sony E is not heavy enough to use tripod collars or a lens foot. You can attach the tripod release plate on the camera,

Q: 6. 1. Does the lens come with a hood? 2. Does Tamron provide a warranty?

A: The Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Lens for Sony E does include a lens hood and a 6 Year Tamron USA warranty against defects.

Q: 7. Any advice on how to prevent the lens from "creeping"? I like to wear my camera with the Peak Design Strap connected to the side lug and tripod mount. With the strap slung diagonally across my torso, the camera rests comfortably and compactly on my side or back with the lens pointing down. It only takes a couple of minutes for the Tamron to fully extend.

A: Anti-creep bands such as this LensBand help prevent creep when stretched diagonally over the zoom ring and the rest of the lens' body. https://bhpho.to/3DhntEB

Q: 8. Has anyone used this lens for landscape I.e. Grand Canyon Ntl Park?

A: Yes great landscapes lens if you are looking to compress a scene.

Q: 9. is there a lock to keep lens from sliding?

A: No there isn't.

Q: 10. How is this lens for Friday Night Football Games with A73 ?

A: It is a very good lens in general. But it is f/4.5-6.3. So not the best for low light compared to others. Depending on how dark it is you will need to up your iso. And it will not be as fast to Autofocus compared to an f/2.8 lens like a 70-200, https://bhpho.to/3s0NRMl .

Excellent value for the money. Yes, it's a little slow, particularly on the super-telephoto end, but it was surprisingly sharp. Maybe I set my expectations really low because of the price, but I am quite pleased with the quality of the photos I've gotten from this lens.

I paid $450 for this lens but even at the MSRP of $550 it would be a great value. Autofocus works well and the images look sharp enough on my a7IV. The lens is very lightweight so I can bring it on outings when most super-telephoto lenses would be too cumbersome. I don't find the lack of stabilization to be an issue, with IBIS I'm able to shoot handheld at 300mm in moderate light and still get sharp images.

The build feels solid enough, though the focus ring is somewhat stiff. I haven't needed the weather sealing yet but it's good to know it's there.

I owned the Canon version of this focal range about 10 years ago. That was a fantastic lens. So is this lens. It is plenty sharp. Focusing and focus tracking are excellent. I was able to track a flying Osprey who had caught a fish some distance away. The bird was small in my frame, so I cropped it to get a larger image of the bird and the fish. To my surprise, I got a perfectly usable image after cropping. The bird was probably occupying about 5% of the frame. I used the lens with my Sony A7RIV and used the APSc mode to get to 450mm.

On the trip this is the lens I used the most along with my Tamron 17-28. The combo is all I am going to bring on my next trip as I did not use any of the other Tamron lenses (28-75 and 70-180) I had with me.

The 70-300 is very light. So light that it almost feels like you have a cheap lens! Let me tell you this is no cheap lens. It is light which is a major plus and a delight to carry on long hikes and it is plenty sharp for pro results.

This lens provides a great value with the focal lengths I use a lot when hiking or traveling. The build quality seems good and it works well with my Sony A7M4. The only down side to this lens is its lack of a zoom lock. It extends when I have it clipped to my backpack or belt.

I got this FF lens to use on my cropped a6000, planning on upgrading in the next couple of years and was hesitant to buy a cropped telephoto. The images are crisp, smooth focus, light weight. It's very hard to get sharp manual focus on full zoom. Great for animal photography.

Great low cost alternative to the more expensive option out there. Not the fastest lens but with good light the image quality is excellent. Also it's very light weight and weather sealed which is a big plus.

compared to other zoom lenses which are similar but very expensive, this is pretty good, it's all i need for wildlife images. I didn't need image stabilization because my A7iii has it.

I purchased this lens to replace my F-mount Nikon 70-300mm. Although initially hesitant purchasing a 3rd party Z lens, this one definitely does not disappoint! This feels great using it on my Z6ii camera and has produced sharp photos. This is my new go-to lens for my daily use. Looking forward to seeing more Z lenses from Tamron!

I had been using a Nikkor Z DX 50-250 with my Z6ii. The images were ok, but with the cropped sensor, I wasn't getting the full capability of the camera. My first use of the Tamron 70-300 was shooting my great-niece's soccer game. I'm a totally inept sports photographer, but even so this camera/lens combo captured some very good images- bright and sharp subjects, with properly blurred backgrounds. Considering my lack of experience, excellent results from this lens!
