The silver STC-1S from Sontronics is a stereo mic set for the stage and studio that delivers high-quality recordings without breaking the bank. Designed in Britain, this matched pair of flexible small-diaphragm condenser microphones can be used on a wide variety of instruments and has been engineered to deliver sonic results rivaling far more expensive pencil mics. The mics are well suited to recording acoustic guitars, pianos, choirs, strings, woodwinds, percussion, brass, drum overheads, ensembles, and more.

Each mic features a 3-stage high-pass filter (Off / 75 Hz / 150 Hz), allowing you to reduce unwanted low-end, while a 3-stage pad (Off / -10 dB / -20 dB) lets you record loud sources at up to 137 dB. A stereo mounting bar, mic clips, foam windshields, and a wooden box for transport and storage are included.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How long are the XLR cables?

A: The ECM-MS2 from Sony features a permanently attached 15 cable.

Q: 2. Can this mic be plugged into a Panasonic GH-4 camera which I believe supplies minimal power to some mics?

A: The GH4 will provide plug in power to some mics. The NT4 will require phantom power which is more than the 1-5 volts your camera can provide. You can however use the mic using a 9 volt battery which will power the mic, and a Stereo XLR to Mini 1/8 inch Cable is included in the package which allows for connection to your camera.

Q: 3. HelloDoes the microphone includes Remote Audio 5-Pin Stereo XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Y-Cable - 18?

Q: 4. Hi - would there be any advantages in sound quality of buying this over the sound I already get from the Sony PCM-D100 built in mics? I realise they're XY and this is an MS mic but I'm hoping to record two things acoustic singer songwriter bits and also some ambience from a forrest and wondered if the sound from using this VP88 into a mixer (mixpre-d) line out into the line in of the PCM-D100 would yield better results than just using the built in mics on the pcm-d100.

A: Although the built-in mics of the Sony PCM-D100 are very good, this Shure VP-88 offers a very large improvement. Along with better sound, this external mic offers the flexibility of distance and placement away from the recorder.

Q: 5. What's the best blimp/dead for this microphone?

A: The Rycote Mini Windjammer provides optimum wind diffusion for smaller microphones. Like the standard Windjammer, the Mini Windjammer provides 10 - 12dB extra protection over standard windscreens. This Windjammer accommodates the Rode NT4.

Q: 6. Does Rode make any mics that have a built in interface?

A: Rode does offer several USB mics but they do not have a stereo X/Y style USB mic. You can use the NT4 with a dual-input USB interface such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (B&H # FOSCARL2I23G) to connect it to a computer. The included Y-cable for the mic has two 3-pin XLR connectors that will connect to each channel on the interface. Please contact us by phone or through live chat if you have additional questions or would like further assistance.

Q: 7. I noted that this microphone has 5 pins but my audio recorders are both 3-pin (Marantz PMD661 and Zoom H6). Can I purchase an adapter cable? This may be dumb question. I'm new to this aspect of recording, and I can't seem to find a definitive answer on any website.

A: Three reasons I bought the NT4 is that it comes with a five pin adapter to two three pin plugs, also a five pin adapter to 3.5mm audio adapter and it can be run off an internal 9 volt battery. None of my digital recorders supply Phantom Power . The audio level at analog output is more than sufficient to connect to my Sony PCM-D50.

Q: 8. Will this mic fit the Sony FX3 mic holder?

A: Yes this mic will work with the Sony FX3

Q: 9. The female to 2x male XLR cable seems short. Is it meant to be just an adapter? I would be connecting the mic to a MIxPre-3 II.

A: Just buy yourself 2 XLR cables 10 to 15 ft and just use this as an extender with the cables the Rode NT4 comes with.

Q: 10. How long is the 5-pin to 2 3-pin XLR stereo breakout cable that is included?

A: The Superlux S502MKII ORTF Stereo Condenser Microphone (BH # SU502MKII) includes an approximately 0.6 meter breakout cable assembly.
