I had this lens for 9 years now and it never ceases to amaze me. It was excellent on APS sensors, it's just as good on full frame. The AF is reasonably fast and precise and it never needed adjustments on any of my bodies. It is light enough to hand held and with stabilization it can go as low 1/60 sec and produce sharp images. I may complain perhaps about the hood, that wears up quickly against the metal threads, and over the years I dropped it too often and and had to replace it twice. The combo with the DA 1.4X TC is just as good as the lens alone in terms of sharpness and AF (for APS bodies), too bad Pentax is not releasing a TC update for full frame. I would buy this lens again.

The Pentax 300mm f/4 lens is an excellent telephoto. It's razor sharp and considerably lighter than an aftermarket 300mm f/2.8 telephoto. Unless you absolutely need an extra stop of light gathering ability, this is the prime lens to use. It's an excellent piece of equipment. Highly recommended.

My first big lens and I love it. Sharp photos, quiet focus. Really happy with it.

I've only taken a handful of shots so far but the image quality is up with the best Pentax has to offer; comparable to the DA*50-135 and FA 31 Limited. Only downside I've noted is hunting in low-light.

I use this lens for nature photography, it has a quick focus and will auto fouus without hunting. The pictures are tack sharp. In the future I would like Pentax to make a longer prime lens.

This maybe my favorite lens. The image quality paired with the K1 is amazing. For me this is the perfect walking around lens, I own the DA560 also and it can get heavy when on a monopod and on a 5 mile hike around a wildlife refuge near me but the 300 is so small and light. The build quality is solid, auto focus is quite. I've used it for wildlife and air shows and love the performance, would definitely recommend it for anyone interested in either of those types of shooting.

I use this lens mostly for nature photography coupled to a K5 camera. Image quality has been excellent. I thought the 60-250 had fantastic sharpness and color rendition and this lens is just as good. I have missed a few shots due to wandering focus and I think a focus limiter would be good but all in all this is the lens that has been on my camera most of the summer and my photography has never looked so good. I have been using Pentax for 30 years and finally I have a system that can go up against just about anything else out there. I would buy this again without reservation.

I've planned for years to add Pentax's longest current prime telephoto to my camera bag, and a recent improvement in my work situation finally enabled my order from B&H, source for my other digital Pentax purchases. The DA*300mm F4 prime tele is quicker to autofocus than my DA*50-135mm F2.8 telezoom, as expected, without the latter lens' infrequent problem with autofocus. The color rendition, sharpness, and bokeh of this lens are lovely and live up to the reputation of high-end Pentax glass (I've shot Pentax since working with them professionally in the 1970s, and Pentax lens quality is one of the biggest reasons why.) The only real drawback to shooting this lens is that I'm getting too old and shaky to successfully hand hold it! I'm awaiting delivery from B&H of a Kirk LP-3 lens plate to mount the lens to my Kirk BH-3/Slik 813CF tripod set-up, so that I can work around that little problem! The only other drawback to this lens, for me, is that I can't leave it mounted on my K10D and still close my Lowepro Magnum camera bag or Rover Plus AW photo backpack. That means a few extra lens swaps when shooting out in the field. A small matter, but I don't really need to be carrying bigger camera bags at this point in my life.

I bought this lens to use in wildlfe photography and sports. Matched with the new Pentax 1.4 teleconverter, the combination delivers excellent results on my K-3. The SDM auto focus is fast and accurate and the image quality is as good as it gets. I have been using a Sigma 50-500 for bird photography but this lens with the tc produces an equivalent focal length of 420mm, but is light enough for hand-held photos or use on a monopod. It is a very versatile lens.

Great detail, lovely colours, nice bokeh. I am using this with a 1.4x TC and it is not too heavy, feels nice to hand hold and has almost silent autofocus. Shipping to Canada from B&H was fast and painless.
