Q: 7. Is the firmware updated or I need the sigma dock rightaway?

A: I purchased the lens for my wife in late August 2016. It has never been updated and the version shows 1.02. I checked for updates and found 1.03 available.

Q: 8. What is the Sigma dock several reviewers have mentioned?

A: Trying to correct several errors in my answer below. The dock plugs into a USB port, not sub as stated below. 3rd sentence should read You can also set focus/speed priority for autofocus and you can also change some parameters for the OS......If you have a Canon DSLR that has Micro Focus Adjustment you do not need the dock to make focus adjustments. MFA just as you would a Canon lens. Changing the OS to Dymanic makes a big difference in the movement you see in the viewfinder and changing the AF to Quick Focus priority also makes a difference. To me, it is well worth having even thoug I did not purchase it originally.

As an upgrade from a telephoto kit lens, this has been a fantastic purchase. I expected a lens with f/6 to be rather dark, but it has performed surprisingly well in low light and astrophotography applications. I will, however, need to get a more stable tripod to control vibrations during long exposures.

No, it isn't the ultra professional lens, but it was what I could afford. I am fairly new to photography, but what I am learning is the lens quality is important and this lens provides that. I am getting sharp pictures doubling my 18-300mm Nikkor lens. The teleconverter is a plus, too, but I am finding it not particularly necessary. I am still learning the lens and I need more time to evaluate going with or without the teleconverter. But so far either way I am getting quality photos.

Well, I intended to wait until I was retired to buy a longer lens for my Canon Rebel T-6. I had been using the kit long lens (75-300mm) since I purchased the camera in 2018. A photographer friend suggested I step up my game and sent me the link to this camera. I've only used it once and was very pleased with the photos I took but learning how to handle/carry this lens will need to be mastered first. I plan to get a wider strap or harness for when I am retired and will have many more photo outings - that may help with the weight. I am a hobby photographer who takes pics of nature/wildlife and use the photos in my blog about walking. It is good to treat yourself and I am glad I did not pass up this treat!

I'll keep it short and to the point lens works great it's not as heavy as some of the other lenses and the price points made it affordable to purchase.

The Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens offers me the reach I need at events where it isn't practical to be close. I spent the day with the lens at a morning 5K and a university track and field event. Overall I was very pleased. When fully extended the depth of field at the lowest aperture was shallow, when runners leaned into the finish line, their numbers were sharp, but their faces had a slight blur. Lens focused very quickly, even on the 100-yard dash. That's on me though to focus on the face. Overall very pleased, and looking forward to shooting wildlife.
