Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. 1.4 mean 4 times life size?

A: This has 1.4x Magnification. This is about one and a half times life size.

Q: 2. Is this a Canon Tripod Mount Ring D with an adapter added?

A: The Canon Tripod Mount Ring and Adapter for RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro is an optional accessory for the Canon 100mm f2.8 RF lens. It provides greater overall stability and balance when working with the lens and shooting on a tripod.

Q: 3. The Eos R7 is not a full frame camera. Do I have trouble focusing on close-ups (plant, insect, face)? Because this lens is a mirrorless lens designed for full frame camera. Is the focus area narrow?

A: When using this lens on a Canon R7 it will have a crop factor of 1.6x. This will make the equivalent focal length 160mm. This will have no effect on the minimum focus distance though, which will remain 10.2".

Q: 4. How is this product attached to the various parts of the lense? and is it easily removed? I normally use Lenscoat but this looks interesting. Tks.

A: EasyCover Cover for Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM Lens (Forest Camo) has individual expandable neoprene rings which you can easily attach and detach from your lens.

Q: 5. will this lens work with the RF teleconverters?

A: No. This lens does not work with Canon RF-Mount Teleconverters.

Q: 6. Can this hood, ET-73C, be used as a shorter alternative to the ET-73 (on the Canon EF 100 L macro)?

A: The Canon ET-73C Lens Hood for RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens is not compatible with the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens.

Q: 7. So. what does the adapter do? Is the tripod mount the same as the EF 100mm f/2.8L and the adapter just makes the lens fit better?

A: The Adapter goes on the lens with the Tripod Collar going on top of it. This is a different tripod mount than the one used on the EF lens. The adapter goes on the lens locking into place with notches on both the lens and the adapter. The collar can then swivel on the adapter on the lens without sliding on the lens itself.

Q: 8. what is the diameter it closes to and what is the thickness of the band? Would it fit onto the 3 inch barrel of the RF 100-400 canon lens?

A: Unfortunately, the Canon Tripod Mount Ring and Adapter for RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens is not compatible with the RF100-400mm lens nor does Canon publish the diameter.

Q: 9. What is the working distance (end of lens to subject) at 1x and 1.4x?

A: Focusing distance at 1.4x is 10.2" inches / 26 cm. This is measured from the Sensor Plane. Measuring from the end of the lens this would be 3.6" inches / 9 cm. Unfortunately as this lens has not been made available yet and it is not listed in the specs, we do not yet have information on focusing distance at 1x. Though it would definitely be a longer distance than at 1.4x.

Q: 10. What is the actual focal length at 1x? At 1.4x? We all know any number of 70-200 zooms from the past that as successive generations of updates claimed closer minimum focus distances, that was achieved by making the long (nominally 200mm end) reduced, sometime by a lot - say to 120mm or so.

A: Canon claims the actual focal length of the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens is 100mm at 1X and 1.4X magnification.

Having a lot of fun with it-bought a slide 'rack' for it so much easier to move camera closer & side to side for even better shots- lots of fun in store for this lens! I was afraid it would be a bit heavy, but it's really not. Using it on an R7.

I've only had the lens for a month or so now, but it's standing up to the L series name.

I absolutely love the photos I get with this lens. While I am still unhappy with the ability to quickly move from super close up to distant objects, I'm not sure there's anything that be changed about that without upgrading to a different camera. This is my first L Series lens and it was worth every penny.

I loved 100mm macro since EF days. I didn't own 70-200 back then but 100mm has been perfect tool for my reportage work. Light, Bone is so beautiful, give beautiful intimacy in photo. Since I sold all DSLR, switched to mirrorless, R5, I had to get it. Now I own rf 70-200 but sometimes, I still love the lightness of this lens just have around besides 24-70 on location on-the-go. I also use as portrait lens.

I'm a big fan of Macro photography, as far as getting manual and electronic adapters to reverse lenses on my cameras. This RF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro is absolutely amazing. The nature, bug, and creative shots I get with this makes me happy, and I don't need to mess with adapters.

I switched to RF mount lenses with my purchase of Canon R in 2018 and have been waiting to get this lens for my current R5 and arriving R5C camera. The build quality of or all L-line RF lenses is outstanding including this 100mm Macro lens. This lens is remarkably light and I bring it with me on hikes in nature and use it to capture minute details of flowers, leaves, and small living creatures.
I have not found SA control dial to be useful so far, but I'll keep experimenting with it in different background and lighting scenes.
The lens stabilization is great when shooting video hand-held.
The image quality is beyond reproach and it along justifies owning this lens as a 100mm prime.
