Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does the focus ring mechanically move the elements?

A: The manual focus on the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM Lens like most Canon mount lens is still using electronics to focus.

Q: 2. I just purchased this lens with a Tamron Pro 1.4x teleconverter and soon discovered that it is not compatible. What teleconverters are compatible with this lens on a Canon Full Frame body?

A: Teleconverters typically work only with lenses from the same brand. Canon's TCs work with L-series prime lenses 135mm or longer, the 100-400mm zoom, and the various 70-200 zooms. See the descriptions for Canon's teleconverters for more information.

Q: 3. would the tamron 1.4x teleconverter work on this lens?

A: I just purchased both the lens and the Tamron SP Pro 1.4 teleconverter. I was not able to get them to work together. Trying the Kenko next.

Q: 4. Why is this lens $150 less in price than the previous version, to which the new version is supposed to be superior?

A: I bought this lens a few months ago and it's absolutely phenomenal . B+H had the best deal which was a plus but I would highly recommend this lens the zoom is in credible and my pictures turn out crisp !

Q: 5. Is it compatible with cannon eos 700d?

A: Absolutely! Your camera has an EF-S mount. This lens is compatible with EF andEF-S mounts.

Q: 6. How would this work on a Panasonic S5 with a converter? What about autofocus and OIS?

A: I have no idea. It is a good little lens, lightweight and was bought for backpacking.

Q: 7. I tried this lense on sony a7r3 with newest metabones, software update and must run the camera with manual focus, withe the sony menu setting of "run with no lens". sony autofocus says not compatible. Not compatible?

A: everything is meant to work and it is very hard to figure whats wrong. You have 3 manufacturers involved and only Metabones might try to explain why it doesn't work.

Q: 8. How does the sharpnesscompare with the predecessor lens?

A: The Canon 70-300mm IS II has a new optical design, which should enhance the optical quality of the lens. It should be sharper, especially towards the more telephoto range.

Q: 9. Does it fit the EOS 5D Mark 3?

A: I use this lens as a walk around lens on my Canon 5D Mk3. It's like and compact, and not showy when used on the street.

Q: 10. compatible with Canon mirrorless R?

A: You'll need an EF-to-RF adapter as this is meant for their EOS EF-mount cameras.

I bought this lens almost a year ago .. It's built solid (even though it's plastic) has a good feel, and takes amazing photo's. The auto focusing speed of the lens is truly amazing! It focuses almost as fast as your eyes! Very smooth when shooting video. I've compared the pictures to those taken with my 70-200 f/4 L IS, which in my opinion is one of the sharpest lenes out there .. and it holds it's own! Very little chromatic aberration vibrant colors and very sharp. The LCD screen provides useful information, but I don't use it much. I've never used the 100-400 L IS II and I wouldn't expect this lens to be of that caliber. It's not weather sealed and made of metal like the L lenses .. but I don't shoot in extreme weather anyway so that doesn't matter. It's a consumer lens, not a pro lens!! What you have here is a very good lens, that's not heavy, takes beautiful pictures, all at a great price point. I'm not a pro or anything .. but I think this lens is a steal at this price ... well worth the investment.

I finally had a chance to use this lens during a winter weekend in Yosemite. I can see no difference in image quality between this lens and the more expensive Canon L lenses. I also have a 100-400mm and a 70-200mm Canon lens.

When I am walking round in nature seeking a variety of images, this 70-300 lens in combination with the 24-105 lens covers almost all situations. This 70-300 lens is significantly lighter than the 100-400mm L lens to carry.

I still love my 100-400 mm lens, but I use it only when I am stationary (like in a safari vehicle in Africa, or on a boat cruise when the wildlife is vary far away).

I am very pleased with this new 70-300mm lens, as long at it is not raining, and it is being used during daylight hours.

With Canon cameras for 8 years. Bought this lens 2 months ago. Got surprised with sharpness after microadjust focus in my 80D and 7D MII. Is tack sharp, very fast focus, much better than previous edition. Shooting birds in flight now is a pleasure.

The first time I used this lens it really surprised me, I used it with my Canon 80D and my Canon 6D, and it turned out to be very sharp across all focal lengths. Also use it with a 1.4x teleconverter, and the image is not degraded.
Fantastc lens for wildlife photography, and light weight. Fantastic for travel photography. I think I'm going to sell my Sigma 150-600mm

Replaced the 55250 mm basic kit lens one; happy with it overall. Will be looking to replace it with a 70200 L and a 100400 L in the future. Great stabilisation on it, the little screen is a nice add-ons: I use it to convert the mm when I'm using it with APS-C (7DMKII) sensor. Would buy it again. #canadianuserreview

This lens is super sharp and perfect most anyone not wanting the extra weight of the L equivalent. The focus is crazy fast and the image stabilizer is fantastic.

I picked this lens up as my first zoom lens for my 80d and have been extremely pleased with it. The focus is very fast and accurate and the image quality is execelent for a non L lens. With its Image Stabilzaion I am able to film animals hand held while at 300mm. Can’t go wrong with this lens!

If you are on a budget or just starting out, this lens is awesome. I have had this lens out in -2 degrees and it performed flawlessly. The autofocus is quick, the images are sharp, the image stabilization is quick and the weight feels like you are carrying a small prime lens. I use this lens on a Canon 7D Mark II and I highly recommend this lens. I shoot whatever I feel like at any given time - Landscapes, Nature, Architecture, Ice crystals, Rocks, you name it - I shoot it.

I have had great results with this lens. I always hand hold for out door shots. I would recommend this lens as a good step up for the money. I used to own a 100 to 400 & had to go lighter. This lens performs very well .
