Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. At what focal length does the aperture changes from 4.0 to 5.6?

A: The aperture changes to f/5.6 at 176mm.

Q: 2. Why is this lens $150 less in price than the previous version, to which the new version is supposed to be superior?

A: I bought this lens a few months ago and it's absolutely phenomenal . B+H had the best deal which was a plus but I would highly recommend this lens the zoom is in credible and my pictures turn out crisp !

Q: 3. would the tamron 1.4x teleconverter work on this lens?

A: I just purchased both the lens and the Tamron SP Pro 1.4 teleconverter. I was not able to get them to work together. Trying the Kenko next.

Q: 4. I tried this lense on sony a7r3 with newest metabones, software update and must run the camera with manual focus, withe the sony menu setting of "run with no lens". sony autofocus says not compatible. Not compatible?

A: everything is meant to work and it is very hard to figure whats wrong. You have 3 manufacturers involved and only Metabones might try to explain why it doesn't work.

Q: 5. How does this compare to the Canon zoom lens EF-S 55-250mm 1: 4-5.6 IS? My son water ski's competitively and I'm on the bank trying to get pictures. With the before mentioned lens, I struggle to get sharp pictures and some times motion is an issue.

A: I'm not sure how this lens will compare but I will tell you that I have owned several canon L lenses and the quality and crisp photos that I was able to get from this lens compared to those was great. I recently took this lens on a trip to South America and used it almost exclusively, even though I had also taken the canon 24-105mm F/4 L. I have printed some of the photos out and friends were impressed with the razor sharp images I obtained using this lens. This lens compares very favorably with the canon 100-400 F4.5-5.6 L, especially when you consider the weight and price. Its a great travel lens...!

Q: 6. Is this usable in sports photography

A: Yes, but there are some limitations. Auto focus speed and tracking auto focus will not be as responsive as similar Canon L series lenses. And in low light situations you'll need to boost your ISO setting to maintain a high enough shutter speed.

Q: 7. compatible with Canon mirrorless R?

A: You'll need an EF-to-RF adapter as this is meant for their EOS EF-mount cameras.

Q: 8. Is it compatible with canon SL 1

A: Yes. Any EF or EF-S mount lens is compatible with the SL1.

Q: 9. Does it fit the EOS 5D Mark 3?

A: I use this lens as a walk around lens on my Canon 5D Mk3. It's like and compact, and not showy when used on the street.

Q: 10. Hi ! Does this lens have internal zooming?D.Pham

A: The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM Lenss barrel will extend when zooming.

I haven't had the lens for long, but in the few times I have worked with it images are great. It is not too heavy and works well with my Canon 5D Mark IV.

I found this lens perfect for taking photographs of wildlife and garden bugs and bees. It is light enough so I do not need a tripod to keep it still, and I can saunter off for hours and hardly notice any weight.

Shooting from a good distance, this does the trick. Responsive, clear images, can't wait to really put it to the test more.

I'm a beginner so I wanted a lens that could get my kids on the field from 50-100 years away and look good. I photography friend recommended this lens over the similar Canon lens that is less than half the cost. 75-100 pictures in, been very happy with the results. The lens is heavy and feels very robust, quality construction. Should have purchased it sooner.

I consider myself a hobbyist so my review is based on that perspective. I have been using this lens almost daily for about a month. I hike almost daily, so much of what I photograph is the outdoors; I also take plenty of photos of my grandkids, more so when I take them with me on a short hike. I was using my Canon 70-200 F4L is usm as my primary lens. I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III. About this lens: I like it much better than my 70-200, it has a bit more reach and the photo quality is on par with my L lens. The new nano USM is amazing; lightning fast, accurate and significantly less hunting for focus. The bokeh is okay for a lens with a 4.5-5.6 aperture. I haven't really used the new mode feature that displays actual focal length (useful if you have a crop sensor camera), DoF, and IS info. I haven't noticed any flaring or significant chromatic aberration, and the color representation is very true to what my eye sees when I take a shot. For the price I paid ($449), this camera is an excellent addition to my bag. I wish the camera came with a lens hood and case, but for the price I'm not going to complain. I picked up a lens hood and neoprene pouch for around $20. I read a lot of negative reviews about rattling inside the lens. Mine isn't completely silent when I shake it a bit, but I have not seen any evidence of that affecting performance or photo quality. I have a couple of lenses that have some wiggle when shaken, including one of my L lenses. My question is why are you shaking your new lens like a cocktail in the first place? The other common negative comment was about lens creep. The lens has a lock button that I use when I put the lens into my bag, but I don't activate the lock when I have the camera out. I sling it cross body and have never experienced any lens creep so far. Overall, I am impressed with the performance of this budget priced lens.

I recently ordered this new zoom lens with image stabilization so that I could learn to take better photos. At last I can now take photos of wildlife and birds that are clear and sharp! I love this new lens and I now feel more confident with the photos that I take.

Exactly what I wanted. Handles easily; not too heavy. Works well for video. Footage thus far has been satisfactory.

My SO uses this on her 77D. Her results(IQ) rival my results on my 6D Mark II with my Canon 100-400 version II. And focus is lightning fast. So IMO , it is a great lens.
