Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens work for a Nikon D7000?

A: The D7000 uses DX lens. When you look at a list of Nikon lenses, those made specifically for the D7000 & the D7001 are designated with a DX as this one does, AF-S DX.....

Q: 2. will this work on the D3100?

A: Yes, this lens is an AF-S lens and has the required built-in motor in order to autofocus with the D3100 camera.

Q: 3. Why won't the autofocus work on this lens when it's attached to my D3200?

A: Please email us directly at photo@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a with more information so we can best assist you with your inquiry.

Q: 4. Is this considered a wide angle lens?

A: Yes it is. 18mm in this format is equivalent to 28mm in 35mm format terms. Wide angle focals are any focal less than typically 50mm in 35mm terms. The 18mm focal on this lens has a field of view 76 degrees wide which is plenty wide for scenic landscapes, group shots, interior shots, close-up full body portraits. There are definitely wider focals than this to choos from, however this is a common type to work with. This is the same lens included with most of the Nikon DX DSLR cameras.

Q: 5. How do you protect the front element of these large telephotos against dust and scratches?

A: There is not any conventional type filter made for these lenses due to their massive size and the cost it would incur. The lenses are super-coated with multiple protective coatings to prevent scratches and dust etc that one would commonly encounter when using this type of lens in the field. Further it is recommended to use the lens' hood for extra protection. Also in the Accessories tab on the link for this lens, we have many options for neoprene hood hats, neoprene lens covers and other protective products designed to protect the lens when used in the field.

Q: 6. can this lens be used with the nikon d5200?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR Lens is fully compatible with all current Nikon DSLR cameras, including the Nikon D5200 DSLR camera. As the lens uses Nikon's AF-S Silent Wave Motor, it will autofocus on all Nikon DSLR cameras.

Q: 7. Does it come with Nikon USA 5 year warranty? Does it include drop/spill?Compatible with D80?

A: Yes, this lens comes with the one year limited Nikon warranty as well as the four year Nikon USA warranty extension, and will be compatible with the Nikon D80. The warranty does not offer protection against drops and spills, however, you have the option to purchase additional drops and spills coverage through a third party company called Square Trade. More information regarding the coverage, terms and conditions of the Square Trade protection plans can be found at the following link: http://bhpho.to/1fMHaTB

Q: 8. What is the distance you can cover at f22 as if one is shooting a vista or distant mountain range? How close can one shoot and still be in sharp focus? Are there any specs that do not match what Nikon claims? Where have you found the best price in the USA to buy new?

A: The minimum focus distance is 12.63' (3.85 m). Shooting a landscape at f/22 with that lens you are most likely set to infinity so it will all be in focus. The lens is a very good and the specifications from Nikon are correct. The version lens you clicked on is an import and does not have a Nikon warranty. This is the USA version and it has a Nikon USA warranty, a href= http://bhpho.to/1cnVy7G. target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1cnVy7G./a You can see the prices listed next to the product.

Q: 9. Any idea if Nikon will bring out a new 500mm f4 anytime soon? Every time I make a Nikon purchase, in the following weeks Nikon upgrades to another design. Thank You.

A: Unfortunately, we do not have foreknowledge of new Nikon equipment to be released until Nikon releases a press release announcing the camera/lens/accessories they have planned. The best I can state is to simply keep an eye on either the Press Release webpage on Nikon USA's website, a href= http://DPReview.com, target= _blank DPReview.com,/a or our website, as we update our website as soon as we receive information from Nikon on a new item they plan to release.

Q: 10. How is this lens in low lighting?

A: This lens is designed to compliment the 18-55mm kit lens. But it's not a very fast lens. F4 at 55mm and F5.6 at 200mm means it's not the best choice for low light situations.

This is my first lens purchase ever and my first purchase from B&H Photo Video. I am completely satisfied with my lens ... I will definitely purchase again.

This lense is one of the best dollar/value for outdoor sports. We shoot action sports for the a sports website and this is a standard lense that we take to the field.

I'm not a professional photographer, so this is the perfect lens to get great pictures. It's great up close but has just enough zoom to get my active family members on the run!

It fits D3100 well. No VR is a little unhappy

I love this lens. The VR component is wonderful and keeps focus sharp while I am shooting gymnastics events. With my D 700 set at ISO 3200, I can capture these fast moving girls perfectly. Though it was a used, refurbished lens, it is working like a dream ... all for a reduced price. I am loving it!

Refurbished but who can tell? Functions and performs like new. Crystal clear, smooth action. Does exactly what I bought it for. This is a step up from the 50-300 in quality and worth the price, especially when refurbished.

I had the 70-300 ED lens from 6 years ago and this lens is far superior. It has a fast focus and the sharpness is much better than its predecessor at all lengths. It may not be a particularly fast lens, but for the price it suits me perfectly.

I bought this lens to replace the lens that came with the camera, that broke. This lens is perfect for an amateur photographer. I am very happy with it, and glad to have my camera back in action.
