Q: 6. Any idea if Nikon will bring out a new 500mm f4 anytime soon? Every time I make a Nikon purchase, in the following weeks Nikon upgrades to another design. Thank You.

A: Unfortunately, we do not have foreknowledge of new Nikon equipment to be released until Nikon releases a press release announcing the camera/lens/accessories they have planned. The best I can state is to simply keep an eye on either the Press Release webpage on Nikon USA's website, a href= http://DPReview.com, target= _blank DPReview.com,/a or our website, as we update our website as soon as we receive information from Nikon on a new item they plan to release.

Q: 7. How do you protect the front element of these large telephotos against dust and scratches?

A: There is not any conventional type filter made for these lenses due to their massive size and the cost it would incur. The lenses are super-coated with multiple protective coatings to prevent scratches and dust etc that one would commonly encounter when using this type of lens in the field. Further it is recommended to use the lens' hood for extra protection. Also in the Accessories tab on the link for this lens, we have many options for neoprene hood hats, neoprene lens covers and other protective products designed to protect the lens when used in the field.

Q: 8. Imported warranty

A: Items marked Imported are imported and/or distributed by other entities and are warranted by B&H Photo-Video. Imported products do not qualify for manufacturers rebate program.

Q: 9. Does it come with Nikon USA 5 year warranty? Does it include drop/spill?Compatible with D80?

A: Yes, this lens comes with the one year limited Nikon warranty as well as the four year Nikon USA warranty extension, and will be compatible with the Nikon D80. The warranty does not offer protection against drops and spills, however, you have the option to purchase additional drops and spills coverage through a third party company called Square Trade. More information regarding the coverage, terms and conditions of the Square Trade protection plans can be found at the following link: http://bhpho.to/1fMHaTB

Q: 10. How is this lens in low lighting?

A: This lens is designed to compliment the 18-55mm kit lens. But it's not a very fast lens. F4 at 55mm and F5.6 at 200mm means it's not the best choice for low light situations.

The VR feature of this lens is excellent. Used it for long distance scenic shots (several miles) with no problems. Deliberately shot at a slower than normal shutter speed to check VR capability, it works as advertised.

This is the first telephoto lens I've owned. My very first shot was a very quick shot of a military hellicopter. I had just went outside to try this lens out and hearing the unmistakable sound of this aircraft, I quickly pointed the camera skyward and zoomed the full 300mm and got a quick shot. I didn't expect it to turn out, because it was very overcast, but the sun, though abscured by the clouds, was definately creating a strong backlot bacllit backgroung. In a split second, the lens focused and the camera obtained a well exposed photo of this chopper, stopping the dual blades rotation. I was quite impressed. Even thoughy I was totally satisfied with this lens, I noticed the B&H listing of a 28-300mm lens. So I ordered it and tried it out alongside with this 70-300mm. They both performed well in color, focus and sharpness. But I chose to keep the 28-300mm because I did like the extra zoom range. If budget was a major consideration, and I really wanted a telephoto, then this 70-300mm wins hands down. Oh, by the way, the camera I was using is my also newly acquired D3X.
