Q: 1. How come Nikon 300 f.28 does not come in Nikon C1-404 Box ?

A: This is a question to ask Nikon.

Q: 2. Does it come withe the original box and all the other stuff ?

A: Refurbished products come with everything the original is intended to come with. However the box may be different.

Q: 3. will this 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens work with Vello Extension Tubes that are Nikon F mount?

A: Yes, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens will work with Vello Extension Tube Set for Nikon F mount.

Q: 4. I am looking ahead to purchasing a prime telephoto lens to supplement my 70-200 lens, which is very good but does not reach the pristine quality at the outer ranges at a prime lens are supposed to offer. The 300 2.8 is a logical choice but, frankly, recent reviews have been especially critical, citing the inability to front focus and are troubling. One reviewer even acknowledged that Nikon has been unable to fix the problem, despite repeated attempts. Meanwhile, reviews of the 200 2.0 are universally stellar, with not one complaint to be found. Aside from the primary differences -- 200 vs. 300 and 2.0 to 2.8 -- would a better choice be the 200 supplemented with a 1.4 or 2.0 converter to achieve greater distances. Is there a downside, minor or otherwise, to using extenders. (Would a 1.4 give me 300 meters, and a 2.0 reach 400?) Both lenses are about the same size and weight and fall in the same price range, but performance is paramount with such a pricey piece of glass.

A: If you already have the 70-200mm VRII 2.8, then why are you even considering the 200mm F/2.0, unless you are a very specialized portrait photographer then I would understand that it is not truly the reach nor the speed of the lens that you are after but the creamy background and all that poetic internet talk of ones who basically have not published a single photo taken by their very expensive lenses. The 300mm 2.8 VRII is an outstanding piece of optics, the shape of the barrel is more natural than walking around with the weird looking 200mm lens, which will attract more attention than wanted, it is truly made for action photography as well as portraits especially outdoors, needless to say that if you love landscape and can hire someone to carry it for on your next hike, you will adore the shots you take once you 're back home. Bottom line, the reach of a 300 is far better than the 200, as well as adding an extender is good for still shots that is why I got the 2.0 one for the very rare occasion of using it, but the lens is made to be used solo. Lenses I own: 14-24mm, 24mm 1.4, 58mm1.4, 105mm VR, 70-200mmVRII, 300mmVRII2.8, two nikon bodies D3s & D4, /// Sony A7RII with 55mm 1.8 lens for traveling, so you got the picture that I was in the same dilemma as you then I started to take photos and blocked my self from reading too much for all those experts out there. I hope this was of any help to you.

Q: 5. Will this lens work with two TCs stacked, on a D7200? Thanks.

A: It is not possible to stack 2 Nikon teleconverters. A better option would be to use this Tamron 150-600: https://bhpho.to/3fRqqTe Plus this 2x: https://bhpho.to/2Rgnllj The result would be manual focus only but it would reach the 1200mm range.

Q: 6. Will this lens AF with Nikon TC17E-II ( 1.7X ) on a D7100 ?

A: There is a chance autofocus will be lost, though you should be able to retain autofocus with the TC17E-II on the D7100 with this lens.

Q: 7. How does one protect the front element of this lens if there is no provision for a screw in UV filter?

A: Hi John. The Nikkor 300mm f2.8 lens is quite large at the distal end 5 to 6 inches in diameter, too large for a screw on UV protective filter like I use on my other lenses. Nikon includes a lens shroud to put at the end of the lens which keeps out most foreign objects but does not protect from dust or from directly touching the lens. When not in use you can store the lens in its Nikon included case or leave it on your camera in a bag big enough to accommodate it like a PortaBrace bag that has lots of protective padding. Hope this helps. Matt

Q: 8. I have a D7000, will this lense work?

A: Yes, perfectly. I shoot with a D7100 giving a 450 mm viewing angle. Expensive but superb lense.

Q: 9. Will this lens work with the D500

A: Works very well

Q: 10. What are the differences between version VR I and version VR II of this lens?

A: The NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II lens has one stop more of VR stabilization than the previous VR I, and the M/A autofocus mode was added.

Excellent lens, it works perfectly as it pairs with 2X converter-TC2.0 III to extend to 600mm.

After struggling to get good zoo photos with the Nikon 300mm f/4 and the Canon 400mm f/5.6L, I finally caved and bought this lens. The quality of both the output and the construction are astonishing. My sample is as sharp wide open as my f/4 was stopped all the way down to f/9, and produces first-rate results from f/2.8 all the way to f/9. Now instead of getting recognizable backgrounds I'm seeing bokeh that can only be described as dream-like; with subjects appearing to float on air against a back-drop of swirling color. The focusing speed is so fast that it is easy to keep to the lowest ISO settings in all but dim light. And the soft-sided carrying case enables transport with a camera attached. What a relief! I would give this lens ten stars if I could.

I've been using Nikon gear for the last fifteen years. I've waited almost that long to buy some Nikon big glass. So my expectations were quite high. This lens does not disappoint! It's sharp, bright, and works well with the stable of Nikon teleconverters. It's expensive but I highly recommend it.

Excellent sharpness, super fast focusing, very quiet, VR II technology amazing. No regrets. Look forward to taking some wonderful pictures with this lens. Not too heavy. With my D300 and 1.7 teleconverter it is approx. 10.5 lbs of 520 MM of lens. The teleconverter with this lens produces razor sharp images. Able to shoot handheld without too much difficulty but will be an acquired skill. I would not want a bigger lens...too much to carry and too expensive. This lens coupled with the 1.7 teleconverter is an excellent package for traveling. Do not need a gimbal mount but would be nice to have. Use on my existing Manfrotto Ball mount with no issues. I would recommend this lens to everyone interested in a super telephoto lens.

Bought this lens mainly for sports, but also plan on getting into wildlife as well. Shot a baseball game this last weekend and the pictures are sharp and with great color. Focus is very fast and accurate. Used the Nikon 1.7 tele and found the pictures just as sharp. Before buying this lens, I'd been using the 70-200, sometimes with the 1.7 tele, which is a great combo. I will continue to use this set-up when conditions warrant (distance). I use both the Nikon D300 and D700 cameras. Both work great, with the D300 adding more reach, and the D700 for more useable ISO in lower light. This 300mm lens is a great tool to have no matter what kind of shooting you do. Highly recommended.

I originally bought the 200-500 but after two copies and not a single sharp image I bit the bullet and invested in this fine piece of glass. WOW this baby is sharp. I have even taken some images with the 1.4x TCII and the 2.0X TCIII and they are sharp as tacks too. I now have a handholdable lens for taking sharp bird pics after selling my beloved 500 F4 which was ALWAYS on my tripod.

initially taken back by sheer size in comparison to 70-200VRII, but incredible sharpness, able to get handheld sharp images with VR, but most comfortable on monopod, tripod/gimbal. limited use with TC1.4 on both D700 and D300S for more reach, still with excellent images.

I can't say enough about this lens. I shoot professional bass tournaments, and when you're on a boat a tripod just isn't useable. So VR is essential to getting sharp handheld photos - and this lens fulfills that need in spades. It's rugged, fast and absolutely what I need to get the job done.

I have been using this lens for about three weeks. I purchased it with the intent of using it for multiple focal lengths, with Nikon 1.4 and 2.0 tele-converters. The quality with the 2.0 converter on my D500 is excellent. I've been shooting it wide open at f5.6 most of the time due to the dark conditions recently here in the Pacific Northwest. The attached photo is an example of the results at 900mm effective focal length with the lens wide open. It focused on the approaching goose and I got four good consecutive frames of photos. The quality of the lens without a converter is unquestionably outstanding.
