I take wedding photographs, and this is my first Nikon camera. This lens is excellent for taking pictures from a balcony in a church during a wedding and it also great for taking pictures in the distance.

I bought this lens for the VR feature. I've had the Nikon ED AF Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 D for ten (10) years and it's given good service. I decided to move up and take advantage of VR to sharpen my photos at 300mm when slow shutter was required. I am not disappointed. VR calms things down significantly in the viewfinder, reducing image shake, before picture is snapped. Love this lens.

I've been using this lens for about a year. It's excelent in the 70-250mm range and very good at 300mm if you stop it down a little (f8-f11). The quality of the construction is good, no problems with it. I totally recommend this lens.

A great long lens that is not too large or too heavy. Easy to use, balance and hold on a D-40X. OK to carry around for an afternoon. The VR is amazing. Every photo, most at 300,(equal to 450) of the Blue Angels was sharp. I've tried some low light interior shots at 1/60 that were very good. A huge improvement over the 55-200 kit lens in construction quality, image quality and reach/image size.

Easy to use. Fast. Great Quality

Used primarily for general everyday shooting in daylight, mainly family events. It is very sharp, fast focus, and light. Probably not the most durable Nikon lens, but consider the price. It does the job effectively and thats what counts.

My recent photos with the lenses are really sharp. Lens is easy to handle and well balanced.

Very good build quality. Excellent optics. Contrast very good. Color very good. Low distortion and vignetting (not noticeable on APS format). VR works very well. Focus is fast (enough), even at lower light levels. Handles easily, zoom and focus rings turn smoothly. No zoom creep. 67mm filter size makes this a perfect companion to the 18-70mm and 16-85mm zoom lenses. For a lens with such capability, it is not realistic to compare it with prime lenses such as the Nikon 105mm or 180mm, but it stands up against them with honor. In practical print sizes, it would be difficult if not impossible to tell the difference between photographs made with the 70-300mm zoom and those much lauded image makers. For its range and quality delivered, it is light in weight, very handy, and entirely useful in many shooting situations. For the price, this is an excellent addition to any image maker's bag.

This lens is easy to use, works very well with autofocus and VR functions and takes absolutely amazing photos - especially sports. Only downside is it is rather large which draws a lot of attention.

I bought this to accompany my IR converted D100, and I could not be happier. It is sharp edge to edge, and focuses quickly.
