Sleek but well-spec'd, the silver OM-D E-M10 Mark IV meshes many of Olympus's flagship features and technologies with the compact and highly portable E-M10 design. Incorporating the 20.3MP Micro Four Thirds sensor and TruePic VIII image processor, the E-M10 Mark IV is characterized by its UHD 4K video recording capabilities, fast 8.7 fps continuous shooting rate, and wide ISO 200-25600 sensitivity range to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions. The sensor also employs a 121-point contrast-detection AF system, which uses subject detection algorithms from the E-M1-series, for fast, accurate, and intelligent focusing performance. Additionally, 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization is also featured, which compensates for approximately 4.5 stops of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting.
In regard to the physical design, the E-M10 Mark IV is an impressively svelte camera but still sports a large 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD, which has a 180° tilting design for working from high, low, and front-facing angles. For eye-level viewing, there is a 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder. Also, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth permit connecting the camera to a smartphone or tablet for direct wireless sharing of images or for remote camera from the mobile device.

A high-resolution 20.3MP Live MOS sensor works in conjunction with a TruePic VIII image processor to promote fast shooting performance, a sensitivity range from ISO 200-25600, and versatile video recording capabilities. Ideal for photographing moving subjects, too, the sensor and processor combination enables full-resolution continuous shooting up to 8.7 fps. Beyond stills, the E-M10 Mark IV also supports UHD 4K video recording up to 30 fps, Full HD at 60 fps, and high-speed HD recording at 120 fps.
In-body, sensor-shift image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 4.5 stops with any lens in use and compensates for camera movements that become especially noticeable when working with telephoto shots, macro imagery, and long exposures. Furthermore, this advanced image stabilization system works across five axes to compensate for vertical angle rotation, horizontal angle rotation, horizontal shift, vertical shift, and rolling camera shake movement. This range of detected movements serves to benefit traditional still image shooting as well as movie recording and working with moving subjects more effectively.
The quick and intelligent autofocus system uses 121 contrast-detection areas for refined accuracy and focusing speed when working in variety of lighting conditions and shooting situations. Suiting working with moving subjects, continuous autofocus benefits from the same subject-detection algorithm used in the sports-optimized E-M1X and, benefitting portraiture, the same face- and eye-detection functions as the E-M1 Mark III also make it possible to accurately focus on the profile, lowered face, or a partially hidden face. Alternatively, manual focus operation is also benefitted by the inclusion of MF assist functions, including live view magnification and focus peaking.
- High-resolution 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder is available for eye-level monitoring, and it offers a 0.67x maximum magnification for clear, distortion-free viewing.
- Rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot LCD monitor features an 80° upward, 180° downward tilting design to support working from a variety of angles, including front-facing for perfectly framed selfies. The screen is also a touchscreen for intuitive menu navigation and image playback.
- Included BLS-50 rechargeable lithium-ion battery is used to provide approximately 360 shots per charge.
- In-camera battery charging is supported via the micro-USB port.
- Single SD memory card slot is UHS-II compatible for fast read/write speeds.
- Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth permits wireless image sharing and remote camera control from a linked smartphone or tablet when using the dedicated O.I.Share app for iOS and Android.
- Live Composite is a unique long exposure mode that allows you to gradually build up an exposure over time without overexposing key elements within the frame. This mode works to only record newly detected light sources over time, and allows you to watch as an image develops, making it ideally suited for photographing star trails or other moving light sources.
- Live Bulb and Live Time settings can be used to produce creative long exposure imagery. Live Bulb lets you hold the shutter open for up to one minute and Live Time lets you press the shutter button once to open the shutter and then press again within a minute to end the exposure.
- Interval shooting is supported for up to 999 frames with 1 second to 24-hour exposure intervals.
- Art Filters: Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Color , Light Tone, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama, Cross Process, Gentle Sepia, Dramatic Tone, Key Line, Watercolor, Vintage, Partial Color (18 Color), Bleach Bypass, Instant Film.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is there a typo in the SPECS sheet? It looks like the weight with battery and SD card should be 383g not 483g.
A: You are correct, 383g with battery and card.
Q: 2. Weather sealed body?
A: The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is not a weather sealed camera.
Q: 3. Can I use lenses from my Olympus E-PL1 with this camera?
A: Yes lenses from the EPL1 will fit the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV.
Q: 4. Why doesn't the light change a little bit when I change the aperture so that the f_value changes in Mode A?
A: If you are shooting ambient lighting and you set the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV Mirrorless Camera with 14-42mm Lens and Accessory Kit (Silver) [A] Aperture Mode, you set the lens' aperture setting (and your chosen ISO setting) while the camera sets the shutter speed. The point of the semi-automatic modes (Shutter-Priority and Aperture-Priority) is you select one setting while the camera's light meter selects the other setting while attempting to maintain a proper exposure. As such, adjusting the aperture will only affect your depth-of-field when shooting with ambient lighting. You change your aperture, and the camera changes the shutter speed to keep the same exposure (light level). If you want the exposure to change when changing your aperture, you should be shooting on [M] Manual Mode. In Manual Mode, if you adjust the aperture and nothing else, if the aperture is opened, the exposure will be brighter as more light enters the camera while all other settings stay the same. Conversely, if the aperture is closed, the exposure will be darker as less light enters the camera while all other settings stay the same.
Q: 5. Do I have to use a SDXC memory card, or can I use a SDHC memory card?
A: You can use either! Both will work well with the camera.
Q: 6. Does WiFi and Bluetooth transfer images to the computer?
A: No, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV Mirrorless Camera cannot wirelessly transfer images to a computer. Wireless transfer is only available to smart devices using the OI.Share App.
Q: 7. The Memory Card suggested is a Type II Card. Specifically, a UHS-II / V90 / U3 / Class 10. A SanDisk 128GB card of this type costs $164.99. Is this what I need? And have any actual users of this camera tried a Type 1 Card that otherwise matches the specs? (i.e. UHS-I / V90 / U3 / Class 10) Thank you for your answers!
A: To shoot 4k video you need to use a V90 card that is UHS-II. The memory card port in the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is made for UHS-II. Using a UHS-1 card will work for shooting still photos but will be slow.
Q: 8. Can someone recommend a charging usb cord?
A: This Pearstone USB 2.0 Type A Male to Micro Type B Male Cable (Black) - 6' (1.8 m) is capable of charging the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV Mirrorless Camera with 14-42mm EZ Lens (Silver). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/825242-REG
Q: 9. Does it resolve focus stacking to a single image?
A: No, it remains as 8 images.
Q: 10. Does the viewfinder appear much smaller than the M10-III??? Specs say "viewfinder magnification" on the M10-IV is 0.67x. (M10-III specs say 1.23x.)
A: Magnification indicates how big the viewfinder image is compared to the size of the sensor. So even though the Mark IV will have a much lower magnification factor than the Mark III, the actual viewfinder image will be noticably bigger.
