A: Unfortunately I do not own the Tamron lens, so I cannot make a direct comparison. I do like the Canon lens, like you I am not sure that it commands the added expense. A: Whether this is an aps-c lens or full frame, you still have to do the math on a cropped sensor camera. You will always have to do the magnification factor with any lens, for example 17-55mm x1.5 crop factor.
