Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens compatible with the Canon 1 D Mark 4?

A: No. The 1D Mark IV does not support EF-S lenses. You'll need an EF mount lens.

Q: 2. Water resistant

A: As far as we are aware, this lens has no weather-sealing.

Q: 3. How is image quality (IQ) compared to Tamron 17-55mm f/2.8? I own the Tamron and it is OK but I'd like better IQ. However, I'd hate to waste money on the far more expensive Canon if the IQ is comparable. Anyone have experience with both?

A: Unfortunately I do not own the Tamron lens, so I cannot make a direct comparison. I do like the Canon lens, like you I am not sure that it commands the added expense. I believe if you are very critical of IQ you would find the Canon is a subjectively better lens. You can make a comparison of both lens' photos on the DXO mark site.

Q: 4. Being that this is for an apsc camera, does that mean that it is 17-55 and not multiplied by the 1.6x crop factor. Ik that with full frame lenses it is, but being that this is for an apsc I'm just confirming that it is true 17-55

A: Whether this is an aps-c lens or full frame, you still have to do the math on a cropped sensor camera. You will always have to do the magnification factor with any lens, for example 17-55mm x1.5 crop factor.

Q: 5. Is this compatible with a 1DC?

A: This lens is not compatible with the Canon EOS 1DC.

Q: 6. Will this lens work on a Canon M50?

A: Not unless you have an EF to EFM adapter.

Q: 7. 1. With lack of weather sealing, is the lens more susceptible to dust damage? 2. Is this lens upgraded from previous version, I’ve read comments and watched review videos that it loses its Image stabilization after intense use? Not sure if true or not.

A: I have this lens for about 6 years and have not had any issues with it , there is no mark II for this lens , the IS works fine for me

Q: 8. does this have a lock?

A: No, it doesn't.

Q: 9. Does this lens compatible with cameras that utilize dual-pixel autofocus?

A: It works excellent on my 70D,which is dual pixel.

Q: 10. Video

A: Heck yes! Ive shot multiple documentaries and corporate videos with this lens. Keep the f stop off 2.8 through shutter and iso. You may also need neutral density filters. On brilliant sunny days this lens needs help in order to shoot at 5.6 or 4.

Got this lens a month ago. Excellent pictures outdoors and specially indoors with and without flash, cannot say this with my old 35-135 f4-5.6 USM lens. Pictures are Sharp and good IQ, cannot say more.

Really a pleasant lens. For the price, you get an 'L' quality lens for half the cost of an 'L' that really works for 1.6x Crop camera. The image is clear and crisp. Colors are nice and clean. I love it. I am really enjoying this lens on my Canon T2i and other cameras down the road.

This is great lens all except for the fact that it didn't fit my canon 5d mark ii. That made me sad, but other than that it is a great lens.

I like this lens very much! Yes, it is sharp and focuses quickly and silently, but I especially appreciate the option for narrower depth of field at f2.8. It is definitely far larger and heavier than my 18-55 kit lens, about equal to my 28-135. This will not be my backpackinglens! But the focusing, image quality, IS, and options for reduced depth of field will trump the size and weight drawbacks for most of my applications.

I have been using my 40D with the 28-135 kit lens for months and I needed something that would perform better in lower (and poor quality) light. I was also looking for something wider. It instantly became my primary lens. This lens is fast. This lens is sharp. Built extremely well.Focus is instant, silent and dead on. This lens is worth every penny and I would buy it again with no hesitation. The lens is so sharp that I am still trying to get used to the dead on focus and narrow DOF at 2.8.B&H is the best, pricing, customer service, just awesome. ...

This is my second lens... Good pair with my Canon 7D since it's a crop sensor. The reason I bought this lens because I want a lens that mostly I can use it for outdoor, all around lens, wide lens and good quality... Price is always the issue but this lens prove it with it's good quality pictures that it made. It's worth every penny that I spent... One thing that annoying me is this lens make a buzzing noise louder than my previous lens 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. Of course I check this problem with all my friends and they said that it's normal...eventhough it's already IS USM, confusing?!

A very well made and durable lens, I purchased exclusively for use recording video. The image stabilizer, for video, is key the difference is clear when performing hand held shots. The only downside I have experienced is that when using the on camera microphone with the image stabilizer a faint hum is recorded on the audio track. This is fine if you are only using the on camera for a reference track but is not desirable otherwise. Frankly I wouldn't recommend using the internal mic on and HDSLR because they are all pretty poor.
