The Mackie 402VLZ4 4-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer features Onyx microphone preamps in an ultra-compact design and is suitable for professional low-input applications. From every input to every output, the mixer is designed to provide the highest headroom and lowest noise possible for maximum signal integrity.

The mixer is built like a tank with a rugged solid-steel chassis and high-contrast controls for discernible tactile control. With features like instrument level inputs, phantom power, and level metering, the 402VLZ4 4-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer is a good choice for anybody who is big on performance, but light on inputs. The bottom panel of the mixer features has three non-threaded holes that allow it to be fitted with an optional microphone stand adapter (sold separately). This lets you support the mixer on a standard microphone stand and adjust its height and level to whatever suits your preferences.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I plug in a line level input from a mixing board?

A: Yes

Q: 2. Can the INSERT jack be used as splitter by inserting to the first click?

A: The insert jack of the Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer (BH # MA802VLZ4) should not be used as a splitter function as described. There would be a good chance that noise would be introduced into the signal chain. Best to use a splitter cable: Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer (BH # MA802VLZ4): https://bhpho.to/4cOduHG

Q: 3. Do you offer the version with the universal power supply (100 - 240 V) ?

A: No, we do not. The version of the 402VLZ4 that we offer is for U.S. consumption only.

Q: 4. Where are the phantom power buttons for the XLR ins? Thx

A: The Phantom power button is placed directly above the headphone jack. This mixer has a single phantom power button, you cannot select a individual channel to provide power too, the power is share between all microphone inputs.

Q: 5. Does anyone know of a a lockable cover that can go over this board to prevent unauthorized use?

A: Not aware of any available.

Q: 6. I use wireless mics during video production. Is this a good mixer for that?

A: This mixer has good quality, clean sounding mic pre amp's, and would work fine for video production applications. In a situation where you have access to wall power, this would be a great mixer for two microphones.

Q: 7. Does it work on 220-240 Volt electricity?

A: The Power Supply included with the Mackie 802 VLZ4 available here at B&H is compatible with 120 VAC only.

Q: 8. The psu unit has dual voltage support for 220v/110v? Thanks

A: Unfortunately, the Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer is only 100 to 120 VAC.

Q: 9. How does this get connected to the computer?

A: The Mackie 402 VLZ4 features no direct connection available to a computer. You would need an Audio interface which will convert the analog outputs of the mixer to digital or connect the mixer using a standard audio cable to the 1/8 input jack available on most computers.

Q: 10. Do I need a separate pre-amp to plug the Sennheiser AVX transmitter w/ TRS to XLR into Channels 3 or 4 and get a clean signal?

A: Channels 3/4 on the Mackie Mix8 - 8-Channel Compact Mixer are line level inputs, so yes, you would need a microphone preamp to connect a mic level signal to them.

I use this to control audio volumes out from my computer with knobs not software , control amplified speakers and a separate headset control , i could easily add instruments or micro phone to my computer recordings , its pure analog so no USB , sounds really great better than straight computer to speakers i think , a little preamp is inside and it helps , but keep in mind its a mackie mixer and who does a better job of mixer design ? not many if any , its a little tank i needed a little interface and this is over the top nice for me

I haven't taken it into the field yet, but tested it thoroughly in my shop. I was concerned that it didn't have an AUX or MON out, only the headphone jack with volume adjustment. But for my needs, it should work fine. The fidelity/gain from MAIN OUT and HEADPHONE seem to be identical. So I can send the main signal to a PA system, and the headphone signal to my stream/record setup, with separate fade control. Hope this helps someone out there.

I use this to take the audio from my editing computer and split to my desktop monitors and headphones. It works perfectly and has a tiny footprint on my desk - exactly what I needed. Also great to pack up and take into the field for small audio jobs.

Wow I got this and wasn't quite sure what to think at first and gave it a try and wow is the sound quality really nice and spot on and compared to some others there are some others that are nice also in the way they are and yet this is a product focus spotlight here and the treble and bass are spot on and the mic preamps are very clean and very fast. They have a very nice ring and bring a very nice tone for rap music and even country bluegrass and other music or even podcasting for some. I think it would be nice to have a screw in connection and multiple cable assignment because of plug versatility and such that it delivers a standard socket and yet it is very nice and was able to bridge with another socket regardless. This is well worth five stars and what a price for this at the time. I'm glad I purchased it and thank you Mackie for having it it's very nice.

This is perfect for my production needs. Solid and compact it packs a punch. I am digitizing old SVHS footage and run the sound through this for better control and adjustments. Does a great job.

Mackie has a great reputation. Highly recommend!

I actually bought this for the tape out. My Roland V-8HD switcher only has RCA as an analog in, which can result in impedance problems from balanced stereo feed. Mackie 402-VLZ4 solves the problem. Board mix to Ch. 3 stereo bal/unbal in, RCA tape out to switcher. Impedance problem solved. The 2 mic preamps are a bonus. Very clean sound.
