Q: 1. The interior dimension of the bag appear to be smaller than the size of mixer. Does the bag fit?

A: Yes the bag fits the mixer. Forced perspective can be deceiving.

Q: 2. The spec says, "Power Supply External AC Connector: 2-Pin IEC 250 VAC". Does this mean this will work on 110V - 250V?

A: The Mackie 402VLZ4 4-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer that we sell comes packaged with a power supply for use in North America. The included power supply is compatible for use with 100 to 120V only.

Q: 3. What is the signal to noise (s/n) ratio? I can't find it in the manual.

A: The company has not made that information available to the public at this point in time.

Q: 4. Is the power supply truly universal? The user manual appears to list different power requirements for different models depending on where it is purchased.

A: The Mackie 402VLZ4 ships with an external power supply, and is packaged regionally. The power supply available with units purchased from B&H are 100-120 VAC compatible only.

Q: 5. Is the gain from this mixer sufficient for use with vintage ribbon microphones, such as the RCA77Dx? Thanks.

A: Tough to tell. I use a Heil PR 40 and do have to crank up the gain a bit. Great mixer and clean sound. Its worth giving it a try.

Q: 6. Is it possible to have a mic channel only go through the aux without having any audio in the main mix? Think Talkback for aband.

A: No, it is not possible to assign a mic channel from the Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer to go only through the Aux Send and not the Main Mix.

Q: 7. Do I need a separate pre-amp to plug the Sennheiser AVX transmitter w/ TRS to XLR into Channels 3 or 4 and get a clean signal?

A: Channels 3/4 on the Mackie Mix8 - 8-Channel Compact Mixer are line level inputs, so yes, you would need a microphone preamp to connect a mic level signal to them.

Q: 8. Can the INSERT jack be used as splitter by inserting to the first click?

A: The insert jack of the Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer (BH # MA802VLZ4) should not be used as a splitter function as described. There would be a good chance that noise would be introduced into the signal chain. Solid. Been using Mackie Mixers for years. Really dig the new sliders, away with the white and there's even a better feel with the black. The color pattern makes this arrangement of knobs the best visually and it's very easy on the eyes to discern. Quality is like always, top notch. 5

I needed a new mixer for permanent installation at my church. A friend of mine with extensive experience in the recording industry recommended the Mackie VLZ4 series for their build quality and design for live recording as opposed to studio recording (previous mixer was for studio recording). I went with the 32-channel model so that I could have everything plugged in at the same time: the 16-channel snake that runs to front of house, 4 wireless mics, 4 ceiling mics, and 2 computers. We have 4 mono channels leftover for future growth. I love that this board has everything I need (post-fader aux sends, EQ, compressors) and very little of what I don't need (FX). The sound quality is fantastic - very rich and warm natural sound. Many people commented to me about how big the thing is, but we had the space for it and the 24-channel model wasn't big enough for my needs. 5

This is the 3rd one of these that I've bought over the past 26 years as a full time musician. It fits perfectly in my rack, has more than I need for bussing etc., has a very well thought out design for those of us that are pretty much plugin and play. It's strength is the quality and versatility fitted into a compact mixer. This has always been the niche of this mixer. Before this entered the market, the only mixers that had all of it's features were MUCH bigger in size. With this in mind it is not intended for the sound man sitting at the back of the room needing to make adjustments constantly throughout the night. I say this because the faders are intentionally narrow and it can be easy to accidentally hit a channel assignment button. For most of us who only need to move chanell faders or make minor adjustments every now and then, you couldn't ask for better. 5

I've been using this little mixer for my home editing setup and I really like it. I'm running a synthesizer and my laptop in. Then running the tape out a digital audio recorder and the main to my studio monitors. One thing to note is that it does of course require power. 5

I needed a small mixer to accommodate an XLR input for a microphone, as well as outs for 2-12" speakers and a laptop. This does the trick. The one knock I have seen on this mixer is the no on/off switch but it hasn't been a problem for me. I make sure all my knobs are at zero before I plug in anyways so I don't get any feedback. Reliable and a small footprint which is great. I also use this mixer in a live setting and I trust it. 5
