The Mackie 3204VLZ4 32-Channel 4-Bus FX Mixer with USB from the VLZ4 4-Bus Series features Onyx microphone preamps in a high-headroom / low-noise 4-bus design with a feature set suitable for live sound. The mixer is equipped with dual 32-bit RMFX+ effect processors, each with 24 effects including tap delay. It also includes compression on dedicated channels and subgroups that allow for simple, sweet dynamic control.

Additionally, both of the FX processors feature a tap delay and the delays may easily be synchronized with the song at the tap of a finger. The processed signal may be sent directly to the mains and monitors from the effects section or re-routed to the 2 stereo channels to bring them through the EQ and AUX section, utilizing the 60mm fader to draw them into the mix.

The 32-channel, 4-bus FX mixer has 8 single-knob compressors to stop the dynamic signals from poking out of the mix. There are 4 compressors are located on the last 4 microphone inputs so that critical signals (such as vocals, snare drum, guitar or keyboards) may be addressed. In addition, there are single-knob compressors on each of the 4 subgroups so that grouped signals (such as a drum set or a choir of vocalists) may be blended together for paramount smoothness.

This mixer also features a 4 x 2 USB recording and playback function. This means that up to 4 signals may be recorded simultaneously and a stereo mix returned to the mixer for playback. Its built-like-a-tank construction delivers years of reliable use under strenuous conditions. The VLZ4 4-Bus Series offers a compact FX mixer solution in a design that’s flexible, rugged, and professional.

Q: 8. Hi...Just received the mix5...small and nice but...how can I listen to only headphones without also having music coming out the speakers? there is a to headphones button but doesn't do anything...thanks

A: Hi Michael, I have yet to try this with the Mix8 but I will look at it tonight. Have you tried engaging the To Phones button and disengaging the To Mix button? I am guess you have since it seems to be the way it would be done if possible. Though looking at the location of the buttons I am now wondering if they send the RCA inputs to the phones or to Main since they are stacked next to the RCA connectors. I'll do some more looking and experimenting on the 8 and let you know. - Craig

This is definitely an upgrade from the one I have been using. Allowing versitility beyond what I thought was possible.

Nice clean signal coming from my Beta 58. Easy to setup for computer interface.

Bluetooth is easy to connect and works great. Only minor niggle for that is if you want to switch devices, you have to pair the new one every time. It only remembers the current device. Don't let that deter you though, the pairing only takes a few seconds so it's not really a problem, and if you only use one device for Bluetooth, it is a non-issue.

Calling up the FX options takes a little getting used to, and though it has virtual presets available, it might be nice if there were a couple of physical preset buttons you could program.

The line in jacks 3/4 share an interface with the USB 3/4 return from the computer, so you are unable to use them if you (for example) want to monitor your Zoom call through the mixer. If it's important to you to have both, I suggest you upgrade to the 10 channel version.

Bottom line, it's a great little mixer which doesn't take up a huge amount of real estate on your desk.

My Behringer X1204USB mixer died after many years of faithful service. After looking around, I noticed that a lot of small USB mixers don't have proper send and returns - this is a key feature for me as I like to do mix-minus with my friends on Zoom and Discord. This mixer - for less than $100 - sounds great, gives me just what I need and nothing more.

One thing folks like about USB is that there's no messing with line levels into your computer. If you know what you're doing you can set the input level on the computer just where you need and almost never bother with it again.

Build quality is great, the knobs have the right amount of firmness when turned. Layout is mostly clear, though the phantom power button being between the headphone and aux master is a weird choice.

One thing that I didn't realize until I was trying it out is that the aux send is a mono output. Not a huge dealbreaker (especially for things like vocal effects sends or mix-minus to a remote listener who needs to hear other content) but worth noting.

It does the vast majority of what I want it to do without issue. Strongly recommended.

I love this mixer. It does everything I need and want it to do, while also being within my very small budget. I bought this thinking it was USB, but it is not, so I needed extra cables. The pan feature works, but friends on Skype cannot notice it.

Right out of the box it was incredibly useful for both DJ sets and live music gigs. Size and price are great if you don't need beyond 6 channels. Built in effects are great for live vocals.

As a videographer, I sometimes need more audio inputs than the 2 on the camera. This compact mixer is just perfect for that use. Easy to use and small enough to take on shoots. Really have not found any negatives about it.
