Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the TC-out and Sync-out require two different cables or are they the same?

A: A single cable on the output carries timecode and genlock/wordclock.

Q: 2. What kind of marker can this be used on this slate? Need something that can b updated fast. Not sure if permanent marker will work.

A: You will want to use Dry Erase Markers, like this set from Best Rite which is B&H # BE554E4.https://bhpho.to/2fmfw85

Q: 3. This can generate timecode, but can it generate genlock. Also, can it do both concurrently?

A: Yes, the Ambient Recording ACN-CL Lockit Compact Wireless Timecode Synchronizer can output both Genlock and Timecode at the same time.

Q: 4. a recommended distribution amplifier that share TC and genlock with one cable please?

A: A recommended distribution amplifier that could share TC and genlock with one cable on the Ambient Recording ACN-CL Lockit Compact Wireless Timecode Synchronizer would be the AJA C10DA Analog BNC 1x6 Distribution Amplifier, B&H # AJC10DA.

Q: 5. Can this be synced using the Atomos Utrasycnc Blue remote timecode sync?

A: The Denecke TS-C Compact Timecode Slate (Color Clapper, EL Backlit) does not support Bluetooth. It will not work with the Atomos Utrasycnc Blue.

Q: 6. how can I jam the slate to my Canon c700? do I need a time code generator? Thanks

A: Yes, you will need a time code generator to jam time code into the Denecke slate.

Q: 7. I'd like to power the TS-C with an external power source. Can someone tell me if B&H sells a compatible one?

A: The Denecke TS-C Compact Timecode Slate (Color Clapper, EL Backlit) can only be powered via six AA batteries, which is not something we currently have a power adapter for.

Q: 8. Does this include 2 units - one for the audio recorder and one for the camera, or do I need to buy 2?

A: This is for a single unit. It does not include two units.

Q: 9. Will this device accept an SDI signal as a genlock input, broadcast this over ACN, and output a wordclock referenced to it? I see lots of discussion of genlock output, but not input. I have a camera without genlock, and I want to avoid pops when combining HDMI + AES - SDI. Therefore I want to synchronize the audio ADC to the un-genlockable camera.

A: no this device will not work as a genlock for a camera without genlock, it's base/fundamental mode of synchronization is time code

Q: 10. Can I set the Lockit to mirror my audio recorder's timecode then connect it to my camera, or do I need two devices to accurately sync timecode for both audio recorder and camera?

A: Yes it can however it depends on the audio recorder. Typically the Lockit generates the timecode and you sync the audio recorder + Camera to the Lockit's timecode. Ideally you would use 2 Lockits to sync everything however, It is possible to use just 1 Lockit if you like. You can use the Lockit to generate timecode then sync your audio recorder disconnect the audio recorder and then use the same Lockit to sync your camera. In a scenario like this we recommend re-synching the devices every few hours to make sure that your camera and audio recorder are still in sync.

I love the size, the build, and how it works. I had a minor technical issue with the battery door, and I called Denecke and was immediately put in touch with their guy for this product, and he was able to immediately help me. Because this was a small company, I was able to call him back and he picked up the phone right away, and then he was able to help me with some confusion I had with setting up the slate to accept jammed timecode from my recorder in about 3 minutes.

The one thing I would like to have seen would be an adjustment to the amount of time the slate displays the timecode when you clap the sticks. It displays for 4 frames, which is obviously enough for the camera to capture, but there may be times when it would be helpful to be able to see the exact time code on the slate for a couple of seconds or so. But the is really a very minor thing I would like to see.

This is a great slate.

Build quality is top notch. It’s everything I thought this should be for the cost. Easily the best slate I’ve used or owned so far.

I've been wanting one of these for years...looking for a good deal on eBay. Used ones never seemed to be much cheaper than new, so I finally pulled the trigger on new one. I don't know why anyone would spend more on a TS-3 when they have identical features and I think the TS-C size is just right.

It's no surprise that this is a great piece of gear. The sync is rock solid, and despite its smaller size, it seems as well constructed as all of the other Denecke stuff.

I've never purchased a slate before, although I've used several over the years, so I was a bit nervous spending this kind of money, but I have to say that everything promised in the info about it was correct..! Slate worked perfectly, held the code ALL DAY, and the backlit section is a godsend for the camera crew If you're serious about your film making, I would highly suggest investing in this slate, you won't regret it!
