Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can it be use with a RED dragon and Sounddevice mixpre3 ?

A: I'm sure you can feed the TC in on the Sound Devices with the cable included with the nano lockit. However, the Red cameras need a proprietary adapter cable to feed TC in through a BNC connector. That means you'd also need the lemo to BNC output cable for the nano lockit. Hope that makes sense!

Q: 2. Does the NanoLockit 2-pack come with any cables to connect to camera?

A: The Ambient Recording ACN-NL-L NanoLockit Miniature Timecode Synchronizer with Logging Feature (2-Pack) (B&H# AMACNNLLD) does not come with timecode synchronization cables. However, please see the ACCESSORIES section of this product webpage to select the option that's appropriate for your device.

Q: 3. Does this include 2 units - one for the audio recorder and one for the camera, or do I need to buy 2?

A: This is for a single unit. It does not include two units.

Q: 4. is there a way to set auto frame rate if my camera needs to shoot 24fps then 60fps on a hurry?

A: According to Ambient: The ACN-NL follows the TC frame rate it is jammed with. Thus, if you jam the device with 24 fps (or 23.976) it will take over these frame rates. A 60 fps frame rate is not specified by SMPTE, and therefore not available by the NL. Regarding high speed, the cameras generally switch to internal counting of the frames and are not synced with the other devices. Usually the time code frame rate is not changed within one production. If you have further questions please email us. provideo@bhphoto.com.

Q: 5. for virtual production volumes, can the device be synchronized to an evertz 5700 and then run standalone as a timecode and genlock generator on camera? also maintaining genlock that would normally come from evertz?

A: With the LTC output of the Evertz 5700, you can sync the Ambient Recording ACN-CL Lockit Compact Wireless Timecode Synchronizer in TX mode. As a TX master, the Lockit will adapt to the speed of the LTC signal, and it will regenerate and broadcast the time code and sync to all of the following ACN units. For virtual productions, I would recommend using the Lockit+ (B&H # AMACNLPE) as the TX master as it gives you more insights about the current sync status in its web interface.

Q: 6. Can I set the Lockit to mirror my audio recorder's timecode then connect it to my camera, or do I need two devices to accurately sync timecode for both audio recorder and camera?

A: Yes it can however it depends on the audio recorder. Typically the Lockit generates the timecode and you sync the audio recorder + Camera to the Lockit's timecode. Ideally you would use 2 Lockits to sync everything however, It is possible to use just 1 Lockit if you like. You can use the Lockit to generate timecode then sync your audio recorder disconnect the audio recorder and then use the same Lockit to sync your camera. In a scenario like this we recommend re-synching the devices every few hours to make sure that your camera and audio recorder are still in sync.

Q: 7. I am looking for a good solution to mount this to a camera. Is there a 1/4-20 mount (or similar) for this?

A: There is no mount made specifically for the Ambient Recording ACN-CL. Often times people use velcro patches or ties to fasten the unit to a rig. Alternatively, you can look at some of the 1/4-20 clamps we have. I recommend using a patch of velcro though.

Q: 8. Will this device accept an SDI signal as a genlock input, broadcast this over ACN, and output a wordclock referenced to it? I see lots of discussion of genlock output, but not input. I have a camera without genlock, and I want to avoid pops when combining HDMI + AES - SDI. Therefore I want to synchronize the audio ADC to the un-genlockable camera.

A: no this device will not work as a genlock for a camera without genlock, it's base/fundamental mode of synchronization is time code

Q: 9. Is this basically a stripped down Master Lockit? Or would this be used in conjunction with a Master?

A: The Lockit ACN-CL replaces the discontinued ACL204 and TinyLockit ACN-TL in terms of functionality. As such it delivers timecode and sync signals such as genlock, wordclock, and PPF required to make it the perfect choice to be an external synchronizer for all kinds of cameras and recorders. It also can be set to act as a C-Jam master to slaves other units when used as the timecode reference on a soundcart, so the sound mixer can comfortably synchronize the set. However it does not feature the sophisticated web interface of the MasterLockit, which is still an active product. These features are based on an additional web server accessible through WiFi which the Lockit lacks both. So, if your customer is looking for sound reporting together with Sound devices 6series and 788T, visual monitoring of synced devices over ACN, metadata processing including a virtual slate, this will always require a MasterLockit.

Q: 10. You can get two Atomos UltraSync Ones for less than this, and those have displays. Is there some advantage to NanoLockit?

A: Professional gear is more reliable and has the features professionals need. The Ambient Recording ACN-NL-L NanoLockit Miniature Timecode Synchronizer with Logging Feature (2-Pack) is professional gear.

If your audio recorder gives out timecode (which is worth every penny), then you are also going to need a smart slate. A smart slate is able to connect to your sound recorder and sync with timecode. This way, when the slate is shown in front of the camera before a take, the recorder's and slate's timecode will be in sync. This will help a lot in post production so that you or your editor can line up the video & audio takes of the corresponding production shoot without error. I prefer the TS-C as it is the smaller more compact version of the TS-3.

The XPH30R headlamp arrived well-packaged with a clearly written and well-illustrated instruction sheet. I find the XPH30R to be very well-designed with all the controls easily accessed with one hand. It is quite easy to select the three different intensities by simple squeezing the lamp between your finger and thumb. The beam can also be adjusted to a higher intensity by holding the power button down for a few seconds. Once the lamp has been on it can be turned off by a simple squeeze instead of having to cycle through the power settings. Beam size can be adjusted with a twist of the bezel. The on/off switch doubles as a battery charge indicator with a green light indicating full charge and a red light indicating when to recharge the battery. Recharging is easy by unscrewing the Power Button and plugging in the included USB-C charging cable. I applaud Coast for using the USB-C connector since it is found in more and more chargers today. I didn’t take the time to thoroughly check the stated battery life number after the lamp was working perfectly after being on for a solid six hours after I charged it. The battery is a hefty 2600 mAh and charges quickly.

I recommend the lamp with no reservations. It is well designed and constructed and should last for a long time.

I respect good flashlights and I use them in my job everyday so 3 LED lights for the price of one? I'm in. A headlamp, a flashlight and a magnetic work light all in one. I had all 3 types in my toolbox before I got the XPH30R. Now I have the most versatile headlamp on the team. It's a good looking unit that works well, and for a long time on one charge.
That's important to me. I got over 6 hours on 'high' right out of the package. Impressive that it came fully charged. The 1000 lumen turbo feature is also impressive and with the adjustable bezel it throws a lengthy beam of light when needed. This is a well built piece of equipment sure to please the first time novice or the experienced professional. The adjustable angle is solid and will stay where you put it. The headband is comfortable. The on/off button is easy to operate with gloves on and the battery indicator lets you know when it's time to charge before you run out of light. My first time to charge the battery was out of the headlamp because I couldn't stop what I was doing and 2-CR123 batteries had me right back to work. A good option to have. Good job Coast. You have a new customer.

I love the size, the build, and how it works. I had a minor technical issue with the battery door, and I called Denecke and was immediately put in touch with their guy for this product, and he was able to immediately help me. Because this was a small company, I was able to call him back and he picked up the phone right away, and then he was able to help me with some confusion I had with setting up the slate to accept jammed timecode from my recorder in about 3 minutes.

The one thing I would like to have seen would be an adjustment to the amount of time the slate displays the timecode when you clap the sticks. It displays for 4 frames, which is obviously enough for the camera to capture, but there may be times when it would be helpful to be able to see the exact time code on the slate for a couple of seconds or so. But the is really a very minor thing I would like to see.

This is a great slate.

I was worried as a standalone headlamp this would be a little heavy, having used this headlamp all week, I can safely say that the weight is fine. The headlamp swivel and optic focus are a must for many different situations. The lamp looks and feels incredibly well built, and the twist to charge or remove battery feels very solid. I have found the ability to remove the lamp and use the magnetic base much more useful than I would have imagined. I ran this light in a pitch black IT closet (overhead fluorescent light burnt out) and found the various levels of brightness helpful. After running the light on medium for 6 hours non-stop the lamp was not higher than room temperature. I appreciate this lamp uses USB-C for charging as my battery pack and phone use the same cable. Overall this headlamp is even more impressive than I originally guessed, and can be used in more scenarios than one might think at first glance.

I primarily use this slate for documentary and commercial work.It is particularly useful for hanging on the front of your run bag. It is considerably less weight than the TS-2 or 3 and may not be dropped as often by an AC. :-)The multi-stage brightness and backlight are a really nice improvement over older slates.I highly recommend this slate as an all-around tool if you only want to have one in your arsenal.
