Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens (AF-P) will work for D3100?

A: Yes.

Q: 2. I've seen conflicting comments (on several different forums) about full compatibility of this lens with several Nikon DSLRs. I have a Nikon D780 and would like to know if this lens is fully compatible?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR Lens is compatible and will autofocus on the Nikon D780.

Q: 3. Will this lens be compatible with a Nikon d5100 camera body? Whenever I google compatible lenses this one comes up but it’s not listed in the compatible cameras, so I’m confused.

A: this les is nit compatible with Nikon D5100

Q: 4. Is this lens compatable with a Nikon D5000 body?

A: Unfortunately, the Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR Lens is not compatible with the Nikon D5000.

Q: 5. What is the difference between this lens and the Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR (https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productList&A=ShowProduct&Q=1275036&sku=1275036 target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productList&A=ShowProduct&Q=1275036&sku=1275036/a)? They both say that they're compatible with FX and DX formats and represent the same focal length. Is this one simply the newer version? Thank you!

A: The lens you reference is only for 'DX' crop sensor cameras like the D500 or D7200 ect.. If you only own the DX camera then purchase the DX lens and save money. If your camera has the larger FX sensor (D750, D4, D5, D600, ect...) you'll need this lens to cover the full frame of the FX camera. If you have both DX and FX cameras this lens will cover both.

Q: 6. Will this work with a D5000 camera?

A: Unfortunately, this lens will not be compatible with a Nikon D5000 since it is a Nikon AF-P lens.

Q: 7. Is it compatible with Nikon 5300? And also want to know if I can buy it in 12 months with no interest

A: Yes it is. I use it with both a D5300 and D750. Just make sure your firmware is up to date.

Q: 8. What limitations are there if mounted on my D7200?

A: Yes it should work on the D7200 as it supports AF-P lenses.

Q: 9. Is this lens fully compatible with a D90, why or why not?

A: It is not compatible with the d90. The new AF-P lenses cannot communicate with your camera.

Q: 10. does this lens come with the update installed already or do I have to go through the horrible Nikon services?

A: Nikon doesn't publish firmware for its lenses. No need to update lens firmware but firmware update needed for some cameras. This is from Nikon's website: The number of cameras compatible with this lens is limited. Even for compatible cameras, a firmware update may be required. Fully compatible models: D7500, D5600, D3400, D500.Fully compatible models (without limitations) after available firmware update: D5, D750, D610, D600, D5500, D5300, D3300, D4, D4S, D810, D810A, D800, D800E, Df, D7200, D7100. Download firmware updates from Nikon's Download Center. Regardless of firmware update, these models will still have some limitations*: D3, D3X, D3S, D700, D300, D300S, D7000, D5200.*Because these models reset focus when reverting from standby status (timer off), pre-focus shooting is not available.
