Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this made of alumn. or brass ???

A: The Hoya 72mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter is manufactured from aluminum.

Q: 2. Does this filter fit the Nikon 500mm f/4 insert?

A: It does not. You will need B&H # NICPL405 which is the filter specifically designed for the drop in on that lens. https://bhpho.to/2X7oHNp

Q: 3. Can one Circular Pola be removed and this be used as a circular pola as well as a VND (when both polas are present)?

A: To use the SmallRig VND Filter Set for Star-Trail and Revo-Arcane Matte Boxes as a variable ND you need both polarizing filters.

Q: 4. Is this 46 mm filter compatible with the 800mm PF lens Z Mount?

A: No, the Hoya 46mm NXT Plus Circular Polarizer Filter will not work with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S Lens. That lens can only use the Nikon C-PL460 Slip-In Circular Polarizer, BH #NICPL460 (https://bhpho.to/3HdDhfm).

Q: 5. Is it normal for a circular polarizer to have movement once attached to the lens?

A: Define movement. It screws on and that should be tight (no movement). The filter itself turns to orient the angle of the polarization (as opposed to a non circular polarizing filter which only really works when shooting in landscape mode)

Q: 6. Will i be able to use this filter with my Canon EF 16-35mm F/4L IS USM ultra wide angle lens and will my auto focus still work with it? Sorry but I'm a true amateur. Thanks

A: If your lens takes a 77m yes you can use this filter and you should not get any issue with the AF using a CPL with a wide angle lens. I have read that you get autofocus and underexpose issues when you use a linear polariser. However I haven't experienced this since i don't use linear polarisers.

Q: 7. May this 72mm filters fit on a 18-35mm Sigma lens ??

A: The Hoya 72mm NXT Plus Circular Polarizer Filter is not a thin filter so it might vignette a wide lens such as the Sigma 18-35mm. This Hoya HD3 is thin and would be a better option: https://bhpho.to/2pRzaOn

Q: 8. I have just purchased a Canon EOS 6D with 50mm f/1.8 II lens and was looking for a recommended lens protection filter. Is this the one or is it for specialised applications only.

A: I wouldnt suggest a circular polarizing filter for a protective filter. Polarizers are really meant to be used on sunny days to help cut down on the glare from non-metallic surfaces. They wouldnt be great to keep on the lens at all times, especially not when shooting in low light. You might look at a UV filter instead, such as the Hoya 52mm UV Haze NXT HMC Filter (B&H # HOUVN52).

Q: 9. Is this a thin filter? What is the thickness of it?

A: Although Hoya does not publish the thickness of the NXT Plus Circular Polarizer, it would not be the thinnest option from Hoya. You may want to look to the Hoya 72mm HD3 Circular Polarizer Filter, BH # HOCPHD372 which is less likely to cause vignetting on wide-angle lenses. https://bhpho.to/3LXhNmp

Q: 10. Can the polarizing or ND filter be mounted on top of the UV filter, or must it be removed first?

A: Yes. No need to remove the UV filter.Use all 3 if you want a longer shutter speed under daylight conditions!
