With its smooth on-axis tone, great off-axis rejection, and straightforward operation, the Audio-Technica AT875R short shotgun microphone is well suited for budget-conscious indie films, TV shoots, nature recording, and documentary projects where simplicity and quality sound are prioritized.

The AT875R's high sensitivity allows it to perform reliably with a variety of microphone preamp classes. Its full-spectrum frequency response utilizes a gentle increase in high frequencies to enhance intelligibility and compensate for loss in clarity resulting from wind protection.

The durable housing ensures rugged dependability while maintaining a light weight that won't burden your boompole or camera, and the included accessories accommodate mounting the AT875R to a mic stand, boompole, or camera-mount microphone holder.

Being less than 7" long, the AT875R is equally at home on a boompole or atop a camera. It uses an interference tube and a supercardioid polar pattern to yield focused on-axis directionality while attenuating rear-entry sound and rejecting sound at the sides. This makes the AT875R far more effective at capturing distant sources than the omnidirectional mics found in most cameras. Its 90 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response naturally reduces problematic bass frequencies from common sources such as traffic rumble and wind noise.

With a balanced 3-pin XLR output and support for 11 to 52 VDC phantom powering, the AT875R is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

The AT875R includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the AT875R in the Audio-Technica AT8415 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic. The AT875R also includes two rubber O-rings that expand the microphone's diameter to fit the larger mic holders found on many high-end cameras.

The AT875R has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. Enhanced attenuation of wind noise is possible with the addition of an optional windshield such as the Rycote 12 cm Super-Softie, which also provides high immunity to rain.

For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the separately available Rycote Windshield Kit 3, a complete windjammer, windshield, and shockmount suspension system.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this come with a mic holder if I'm not using it with a shock mount?

A: There is a mic holder that comes with this that will screw onto standard mic stands. I've never used it as I've always had this used on a video camera, but I assume it will work ok.

Q: 2. What is the length of the XLR cable that comes with this kit?

A: There is no XLR cable included in this kit. You receive the Kopul LMT100 XLR to mini adapter which is 18 in length and allows you to connect directly to a camera or portable digital recorder.

Q: 3. I'm encountering A LOT of fuzz in the background when recording with this straight into my 5dMKii does anyone have a solution?

A: There can definitely be issues with connecting to the MK II's directly. In the long term, look into an external recorder. For now maybe search around for solutions for the exact model of your firmware/camera and external mics. Might be interference from bad hardware.

Q: 4. does this come with the foam windshield? or do I buy it separately?

A: Yes, and it's included. So far, I've had no problems with this mic and iOS.

Q: 5. Would this microphone work with the Lumix G7?

A: Hi, No this microphone will not work this camera directly. I would recommend instead the Deity Microphones V-Mic D3 Pro Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone with Location Recording Bundle BH# DEVMICD3PROK - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1449001-REG/deity_microphones_vmicd3prokit_v_mic_d3_pro_location.html. I hope this is helpful, thank you for shopping at B&H!

Q: 6. Hi,the link says it is a AT875 where as the kit detail mentions that the mic is AT875 R . Please confirm on the model number ? I am in market for AT875R and the kit seems econmical.

A: This kit includes the Audio-Technica AT875R Short Condenser Shotgun Microphone.

Q: 7. I'm looking to shoot two or three people in one shot, with the boom overhead on a stand. Mostly indoors. Would this mic capture everyone's dialogue if there is no boom operator to move to the speaker?

A: A shotgun mic should be used to pick up dialog from one person, or professional sounding audio. If you use it to pick up two people, the sound will become thin. I would suggest using a boom person, or setting up two mics in a stereo configuration.

Q: 8. Does it come with a windscreen?

A: Yes, it comes with a foam windscreen that is effective in breezes up to about 7 mph.

Q: 9. Does this come with an appropriate adapter to mount to a Sony FS700?

A: No it does not include an appropriate shock/shoe mount. Only an AT8405 Microphone Stand Clip is included. Recommended: Rycote InVision Video Hot Shoe Microphone Suspension - Lyre Shockmount B&H # RYIVSMSF: https://bhpho.to/32b9xZK Please note that the FS-7 has an integrated shotgun mic holder that will accept this AT875 mic without any accessories. This Sanken ROCS Rubber O-Rings for CS-1 (10) B&H # SAROCS would provide a more snug fit. https://bhpho.to/347rKJm

Q: 10. I have a hcx2 with a 4 hour battery, about much battery time would be consumed when using this? 2 hours worth?

A: Unfortunately there is no estimated battery usage listed for 48v phantom powered mics in use with the Panasonic HC-X2.
