The Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron German Upright 1904 Full Library is a virtual piano with a library that captures the sound of a C. Bechstein upright piano built in 1904. If a concert grand seems too voluminous and a modern upright piano too shiny, the German Upright 1904 may be exactly what you're looking for to add a distinctive vintage flavor to your tracks.

The 135.9GB Synchron German Upright 1904 Full Library was meticulously sampled on Stage B of Synchron Stage Vienna, a live room offering a beautifully controlled acoustic environment with less ambience than the large main hall. The instrument utilizes up to 127,112 samples recorded with 8 different microphone combinations (including surround), affording an abundance of options for creating your individual sound.

The included Vienna Synchron Pianos software offers multiple options for shaping your sound and playing experience. Six preconfigured character presets are provided for different types of music ranging from concert to pop. The eleven, specially designed FX presets offer an easy way to achieve more drastic changes to the sound of your German Upright 1904 and transform it for electronica, soundtracks, and experimental applications. The software is compatible with Mac and Windows. It runs as standalone or operates in AU, VST, AAX, and NKS formats.

  • The C. Bechstein upright's very smooth action allows the finest gradations from pianissimo to fortissimo. In the main playing range its sound is more reminiscent of a small concert grand than of an upright piano.
  • With its clear and accurate tonal development this upright conveys the intimate atmosphere of a small concert hall. The instrument's midrange is very pronounced and focused, while its ageless character clearly asserts itself in all registers.

  • The company's proprietary Release Sample Technology allows the included Synchron Pianos player to automatically match hundreds of individual and finely stepped release samples per key to your played notes in real time. The result is a hyper-realistic playing feel and 100% timbral authenticity.

  • To capture the C. Bechstein upright with all its subtleties, engineers further refined the company's precise motion-control system based on a solenoid that controls a noise-free robot finger. The microcontroller moves the finger with superhuman precision, providing flexible curvatures for downstrokes and release movements, the latter corresponding with the preceding note length and various release speeds.

  • Surround: Designed to send the microphone signals to your available surround channels.

  • The instrument comes with the Vienna Synchron Pianos Software to tailor the piano's responses and timbre to your individual needs.
  • Hosting a high-performance playback engine, the software provides a full-blown mixer with a broad range of effects such as EQ, compressor, saturator, algorithmic reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, rotary, and many more.
  • Change the volume of body resonances, sympathetic strings, and pedal noises, right in the main Play window.
  • In the Edit window, you may even adjust EQ, volume, tuning, dynamic range, and more—for each individual key.

Q: 2. What does the output stage box connect to in order to record? Can the PM40 be connected directly to a computer or iPad Pro?

A: The Earthworks PM40 PianoMic Piano Condenser Microphone System has a single stereo 5-pin XLR connector which connects to the input on the included electronics box and feeds to a pair of standard 3-pin XLR output connectors. The electronics box functions as a Y-cable that splits the audio to enable connection to two separate XLR inputs on a variety of devices such as a mixer, amplifier, recorder, camera, or USB audio interface. In order to power the mics, each of the inputs will need to supply 48V of phantom power or you can use standalone phantom power supplies instead. To connect the PM40 PianoMic to a computer, you can use a two-channel USB audio interface such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2x2 USB Audio Interface (B&H # FOSCARL2I23G) or the MOTU M2 Desktop 2x2 USB Type-C Audio-MIDI Interface (B&H # MAM2). The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 can be used with an iPad Pro running iPadOS, and the MOTU M2 can be used with an iPad running iOS 9 or later.
