In gray, this 12.5 x 7.5 x 5.4" Hinged Lid Box from Archival Methods is designed to archive and safely store 5 x 7" prints, envelopes, and CD cases. Also, the box can serve as a general-purpose storage box for collectibles, small pieces of art, or specimens found in nature. The lid itself has undercut front panels for easy access and more room to move materials around. The heavyweight 55 pt. ArchivalGrade boxboard is made from fully bleached, high alpha cellulose pulp, which has a minimum of 3% of calcium carbonate, and it maintains a pH value of 8 to 9.5. Moreover, the boxboard, which is suitable for long-term storage of materials, has passed the Photographic Activity Test. In addition, the paper is free of lignin, acid, recycled pulp, metal, waxes, plasticizers, bleach, and peroxide, and virtually free of sulfur.

The exterior of the box is a textured surface, and the colored dye is light-fast and non-bleeding. The surface of the board does not contain knots, shives, or abrasive particles that would otherwise damage the material stored inside. Meanwhile, the anti-corrosive metal-edge clamps, which have been treated with a black polyester coating and a wax-free polyester finish, have been added to the corners of the box and provide strength and rigidity to stack the boxes on top of each other.

I don't make prints anymore (can have them done and shipped online) but I have several hundred prints that are either a) family photos, or b) stills from movies. This type of storage box has been convenient and effective because you can store the prints or photos in mounts (up to the size of the box). I usually just mark the outside of the box with a general description of the contents and put it on a safe shelf. 5

I purchased 4 of these boxes to store a variety of photos our family has accumulated: family/school portraits, class/team pictures, etc. I had been looking around other big box stores first, but did not find them to be very sturdy for storage or stacking purposes. B&H prices were only marginally higher, but given their boxes' photo-safe properties, reinforced corners, front opening and excellent reviews, buying these seemed like a no-brainer. I am happy I got them, and plan on buying larger sizes for geneology/family history documents, and smaller ones for snapshots. If I had to state a negative, it would be that it is not super-easy to place the lid on while holding up the drop front. Like another reviewer, I had been under the impression it was hinged for some reason. Not a deal-breaker though. My mission was to safely sort and store photos. Mission accomplished. 5
