Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the diameter of bottom part of shock mount? In other words, what size hole should I drill?

A: Per the instructions booklet for the shock mount, 1. Drill a 44mm (1-3/4 in.) hole in desired mounting surface. 2. Mark and drill starter holes for screws, using shock mount as a template. We have the shock mount installed in a podium now, so I can't physically verify this dimension, but my memory is the instructions have this correct.

Q: 2. Can I connect it to my laptop?

A: This condenser goose neck mic can be used with a computer with the addition of an audio interface, such as the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2x2 USB Audio Interface (3rd Generation), BH #FOSCARSOLO3G. The audio interface can provide the necessary 48 volt phantom power that the mic requires, as well as convert the analog signal into a digital signal, which then conects via the included USB cable to your computer.

Q: 3. Can anyone tell me the thread size on the bottom of this unit (for boom pole, etc)? I need to adapt it to an old-school mic stand. Thanks!

A: Hi Jeff: thanks for your question. It's 3/8 . If your old-school stand is 5/8 , you can use the following adapter: a href= http://mymic.rycote.com/products/brass-3_8-m-to-5_8-f-screw-adaptor/. target= _blank http://mymic.rycote.com/products/brass-3_8-m-to-5_8-f-screw-adaptor/./a Basically, any 3/8 M to required size adapter will work. I hope that helps!

Q: 4. what is the Windscreen Length?

A: The Rycote Windshield # 4 is 330mm (13 ) in length, 440mm (17.3 ) with the end caps. Designed to accommodate mics up to 280m. (11 )

Q: 5. Will the Sanken cs1 mic be compatible with this?

A: No, the Rycote Windshield Kit 10 is not large enough for a Sanken CS-1e.

Q: 6. Can this accomodate a Sanken CS-M1?

A: No. The Rycote WS 9 Modular Windshield Kit is not compatible for use with the Sanken CS-M1 Ultracompact Shotgun Microphone. The WS 9 Windshield is intended for use with microphones that are up to 3.9" long and the CS-M1 is just over that at 4.06" long. As a compatible option, you can use the Rycote Modular Windshield WS 1 Kit MZL (B&H # RYMWS1MZLKIT) which is intended for use with microphones that are 2.8 to 4.7" (71 to 120mm) long.

Q: 7. Will the 4017b fit in here?

A: The Rycote Windshield Kit 2 would not be recommended for the DPA 4017b, as it will be slightly too short. The Rycote Super-Shield Kit for Shotgun Mics (Medium) (BH #RYSSKM) would be recommended instead.

Q: 8. On/off switch?

A: There is not an on/off switch. It would need to either be unplugged or, preferably, muted (or turned all the way down) at the soundboard, for it to not be on. Also, this requires phantom power to operate. But all of those things are very deliberate and appropriate. Generally speaking, no mic in this class of mics anywhere has an on/off switch. Why? Because this mic is much more powerful and sensitive than a standard hand-held mic. And it is designed for picking up singers or instruments that are just out of reach to the mic anyways.. .and the act of a person just touching the mic, in a higher volume application, will easily cause a thumping sound noticeable to the audience. Again, rightly so. This is NOT suppose to have a person's mouth just a an inch or two away. That is not what this mic is for. It is for (a) recording a group of voices/instruments that are a few feet away, not inches away... so it picks up sounds that are further away than a hand held vocal mic will so. To do that, it is much more sensitive and shouldn't be touched during operation. If you have to move it during a performance, then the sound person should mute it at the soundboard during the move, your you'll hear lots of popping and cracking noises. That all being said, this is all the way it is suppose to work... if any of these things were not true, the mic wouldn't be able to accomplish its main missions very well. It does what it was designed to do VERY well at a GREAT price for the excellent quality of mic this is. i've used several of these for years and have been very happy with them.

Q: 9. Can you power these using 12V Phantom Power?

A: Yes, the Shure MX418D/C can operate using between 11 to 52V phantom power.

Q: 10. Will this work on a standard PA system or does it require a pre-amp?

A: This can connect to a standard XLR mic connection on a mixer. The mixer must provide 48v phantom power to run.
