I received my tower last week and it is great, powerful, quiet and easy to work with. Not nearly as large as the older macs. Mavericks is very finicky. I wish you had the choice to load your own OS (lion, snow leopard, mountain lion) until they work out the kinks but overall it is an impressive machine. A must have for anyone doing heavy editing, grading, VFX.

This machine is not for everybody, but you are are a video editor, a vfx artist, or colorist, then this is what you want. I can now render video faster than real time. I can grade using Davinci Resolve with real time performance. My TB flash drive redlines the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test around 800mbps. It is a big ticket item, but I got 6 good years out of my last Mac Pro and it is still a very capable machine. Even so not in the same league as this new generation. This will save me a ton of time in the edit suite and will pay for itself in short order.

This new Apple Mac Pro will provide you with the fastest computer for rendering any video and photoshop assignments. I know you're saying it's pricey....trust me, it's well worth the investment. If I could give it more stars, I would!

I use windows 8.1 quite often. On this mac, all drives (except the internal flash drive) are external. Windows runs great off Thunderbolt connected drives. You can have multiple window drives and select the one you want on boot by holding down the option key.

This computer is everything I want in a computer. Small, quiet, fast, round and powerful. My only complaints are that the cable area is a little tight and the power button is a little hard to find. Other than that it's perfect.

Most important!! If you have a 4k display like the Sharp or Asus make sure you buy a display port 1.2 to mini display port cable/ adapter in order to run 60hz Opening the box for the first time, I noticed how heavy it is, talking about around 12 Ib but its not about the weight of this thing but the size of it. I have to say this thing is a piece of engineering, how could Apple fit so much power under this small tin can!!. Funny that i got compliments around the place that this thing looks like a luxurious trash can hahaha yes it is a compliment, no one would understand what this thing really is!? Removing the plastic wrap covering the outer shell, showed how sext this thing is. Adding the glossy black finish makes this thing delicious hehe if you know what I mean, it is a prone to finger prints but to be honest I didn't notice any because of the dark black color. What is inside is pure art, the video card, RAM, SSD, everything is neatly placed for our viewing pleasure. The RAM is user upgradable very easily done indeed.

I have the fastest MacBookPro available yet when processing image stacks (250+ 180MB exposures per image) and doing two or three other processor-intensive tasks simultaneously, the MacPro is amazing. Importing into LightRoom 300+ images takes 2-3 seconds! Synchronizing RAW adjustments for this many images takes seconds as well. I can live capture a sequence of images, be exporting large TIFF files from LR, and using panorama or stacking software, and editing another large image in PS simultaneously, with no hiccups. The dual Video cards are perhaps a large part of the image-processing speed. In PS, when the size of a multilayer file can be 1.6GB or so, applying a filter or analyzing several luminosity options is so quick, there is no wasted time - extremely fast. Again, this is all while doing many other processor-intensive simultaneously. For single image processing, I don't think this level of power is necessary, nor can the expense easily be justified. For imaging professionals working with large data, perhaps this is justifiable. The price is a bit hard to swallow initially....until you use it and experience the extraordinary speed. While video processing or running a ProTools studio are supposedly the main use of this box, processor straining-image adjustments, especially with the newer high megapixel cameras, are made extremely efficient. Extraordinary product. Kirby Turnage, MD

I've only just begun to get used to the new rig so this write up will serve more as a commentary at this point, but I expect the transition will be smooth and am now convinced that it was the perfect time for an upgrade. It's pricey (what Apple product isn't?), but well worth the expense if you are already working with Mac hardware. I purchased this Mac Pro as an upgrade for a early 2009. While still a trusty workhorse, it is getting a bit long in the tooth, and really isn't suitable for 4K, which for us, is just over the horizon. The mix of features it provides are ideal a solid GPU, plenty of memory with room to upgrade, high-performance expansion capability (Thunderbolt 2, USB3.0, HDMI 1.4) and compact size. My home is my studio, so freeing up physical workspace is a must, as my gear load is certainly not getting any smaller. I have to comment on the design it really does look like a goofy little trashcan (albeit lovingly crafted), or some sort of droid reject from star wars: it's certainly hefty enough. Cute though: it's tiny compared to the 2009! It's really startling when you have them sitting side by side in the studio. The performance, as expected, is excellent thanks to the modern processors, GPU and the SSD. There is not much in the way of local storage space, but it's more than adequate for OS X and applications. Anyone working with video on a regular basis isn't going to waste time with internal storage anyhow - external expansion is a must. Instead of choosing PCIe Expansion chassis I bought a $699 highpoint rocketstor6328 thunderbolt2 raid adapter which allow me to connect g-speed minisas configured with RAID 6, hp LTO6 drives and even my esata drives. It's a owesome Thunderbolt2 RAID Adapter so basically any devices with minisas or eSATA you can simply make them accessible to the new Macpro! I'm quite satisfied that my money was well spent at this moment. For anybody with an older Mac Pro, now is a good time to take the plunge.
