Q: 1. Will this work on the D5300?

A: Yes, this lens is compatible with the Nikon D5300.

Q: 2. What Nikon cameras is this lense compatible with?

A: All DX and FX Nikon bodies will take it.It's a great lens!

Q: 3. How do my professional brothers carry this lens? In the bush it's hard enough to carry gear and still be flexible enough to shoot at a waterhole. I will definitely be at least 200ft from my subject, my armed-guide will watch out for approaching predators. I thought about leaving it mounted to the camera body but the dust is everywhere. Is there a particular tube container out there? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

A: The lens comes with a lens case.If you do want to leave it on the camera the best is a cover for the lens and camera. There are many brands and models. This is one of the best a href= http://bhpho.to/18Pds1N. target= _blank http://bhpho.to/18Pds1N./aAnd you will need a eyepiece and that depends on the camera you have. Q: 4. What does the ED on the lens stand for? the lens i want to replace does not have that on it

A: ED refers to Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element which minimizes chromatic aberration for superior optical performance.

Q: 5. Is this considered a wide angle lens?

A: Yes it is. 18mm in this format is equivalent to 28mm in 35mm format terms. Wide angle focals are any focal less than typically 50mm in 35mm terms. The 18mm focal on this lens has a field of view 76 degrees wide which is plenty wide for scenic landscapes, group shots, interior shots, close-up full body portraits. There are definitely wider focals than this to choos from, however this is a common type to work with. This is the same lens included with most of the Nikon DX DSLR cameras.

Q: 6. Does this lens work wit a Nikon D5500?

A: Yes, this lens is compatible with the Nikon D5500.

Q: 7. does this lens work with a Nikon D7100?

A: This lens would work very well with your D7100. I use mine on my D7000 and D90 often. It is the wide lens answer to my telephoto lens and I love it.

Q: 8. Can this work on a nikon fm10?

A: No, unfortunately not. The lens in question does not have an aperture ring to change the f stops with this manual camera. Furthermore the fm10 does not have any electronic lens mount contacts to engage the VR system.

Q: 9. Has anyone had any problem getting such a large lens through customs into a foreign country? Any thoughts about going through differently that regular hand held luggage?

A: You should not have issues going through Customs with a large lens, though if you are concerned I suggest contacting the local office of where you are traveling to confirm. It is not advised to store lenses in checked baggage, and you should only travel with camera equipment in a secure storage setting like a carry on bag.

Q: 10. If price was not an issue would you still purchase the 500mm for high quality images or step up to the 600mm?

A: Which lens I would go with would depend on whether I needed a 500mm or 600mm focal length. It really wouldnt be a question of one lenss apparent quality over the other, but of how much reach I needed. Its like asking Phillips head or flat head: which tool is the right one for the job?

I had a 55-200 for my nikon D60 but I upgraded to the D7000 and wanted a better lens. The 70-300 was the perfect choice. The lens is better constructed and has a more solid feel. plus it has a machined metal mount that is much better than the plastic mount of the other lens.

The vibration reduction in this lens (both modes) coupled with the great optics make it the best Nikon zoom I've ever used.

I use the lens particularly for bird photography and sporting events. However, it also works very nicely for landscapes, night pictures, and even some macro pictures. What I found most amazing is the really fast autofocus. Even when going from a picture at 70mm to one at 300mm, the lens focuses fast (and always at the first time) on the desired object. This is especially useful for birds or other fast moving objects. The VR works absolutely fantastic, even when taking pictures out of a driving car, with the active mode of the VR there are no problems in getting sharp pictures. The only negative thing is of course the weight of the lens, but I have to say that with the brilliant VR it is not necessary to have a tripod for taking pictures. So, in my opinion the con related to weight is counterbalanced by the VR. I use this FX lens with a D90, so the camera chip doesn't make full use of the lens, which means that the edges of the lens don't get used by the camera. Hence, I cannot tell anything about blurring at the edges of the lens. The test pictures I have taken so far do not show any irritation at the edges, but of course this might be different with an FX camera. The bokeh is very nice. Summarizing, this is a really great lens and it is without alternatives. I also checked the 55-300mm, which is build for the DX cameras, but it turned out that the 55-300mm doesn't have an internal focusing as the 70-300mm does. This means that the 55-300mm lens moves when autofocusing, while the position of the 70-300mm doesn't change. Since I bought this lens a few weeks ago I cannot say anything about long-term pros and cons, but so far I would buy this product again.

For youth sports, sometimes 200mm just doesn't cut it. I bought this lens for swim meets, baseball, softball, soccer, baptisms, church services, and graduations where a little more reach makes a difference. I bought my second lens because I often hire photographers to handle some sporting events. If the longest lens they have is a 70-200, then I loan them mine. Outdoors, it doesn't get any better than this for the price.
