Then once you're done and want to use it as a camera bag, you have to reinstall everything in the same configuration you had it in before to fit your body and lenses. If the bottom compartment was a pullout separated padded bag, it would have been way faster and more convenient.

So I dont think they really intend it to stand on its bottom. You can easily loosen the waist strap if you have a bulky jacket. Ive been happy with the bag.
